SELINSGROVE, Pa. - March 24, 2006 TJ Stutts backed up his opening day win last Friday with another powerhouse performance in the 25-lap 410 sprint car feature Friday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. Stutts, 26, who has 10 career 358 sprint wins at the track, won $3,000 for his second straight 410 sprint car victory at Selinsgrove behind the wheel of Gary and Patti Beam's No. 88. Gary Beward of Thompsontown won both 15-lap pro stock features. The 410 sprint cars return to Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday, May 28.
The opening lap of the sprint car feature saw 20th-place starter John Westbrook flip out over the first turn guardrail in his No. 1-W sprint car. Westbrook escaped injury. On the restart, second-place starter Greg Hodnett powered into the lead with polesitter TJ Stutts in close pursuit. At the halfway point of the event, Hodnett held a comfortable lead over Stutts, while fourth-place starter Keith Kauffman, seventh-place starter Lucas Wolfe and fifth-place starter Ryan Bohlke competed in the top five. On the 15th circuit, a torsion bar broke on Hodnett's No. 77, causing the leader to crash into the second turn guardrail. Stutts inherited the lead at this point with Kauffman and Wolfe behind him. An intense battle unfolded for second between Kauffman, Wolfe and ninth-place starter Todd Shaffer. At the checkered flag, Stutts was
victorious by 1.31 seconds over Kauffman, Shaffer, Wolfe and Bohlke.
In both the pro stock features, Gary Beward started on the pole and wired the fields for his victories. In the makeup feature from March 17, Beward held off second-place starter Meade Hahn and fifth-place starter
Peanut Heintzelman. In the second feature, Beward checked out from the field while fifth-place starter Steve Stitt and fourth-place starter Troy Miller settled for second and third, respectively.
Beward announced he would be a weekly competitor at Selinsgrove in 2006 seeking his first career track title at the speedway.
Selinsgrove Speedway officials canceled Saturday's three division show of 358 sprints, late models and roadrunners due to cold temperatures and a forecast for rain and snow showers.
The first four division show of the season featuring the 358 sprints, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 1. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
