SELINSGROVE, Pa. - June 3, 2006 Nate Snyder of Halifax held off point leader Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove for his first win of the season in the 25-lap 358 sprint car main event Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. Snyder was driving the Godfrey Motorsports No. 5 for his 11th career win at the track.
Chris Shuey of Orefield won his second 25-lap main event of the season in the late model division, while AJ Hoffman of Richfield recorded his third win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock race. Donnie Murphy of Minersville won both the 12-lap roadrunner races.
Selinsgrove Speedway will be in operation two times next weekend. The speedway will present a four division program of 358 sprints, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners at 7 p.m. on Sat., June 10. The track will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Sun., June 11, with the National Sprint Tour-sanctioned 410 sprint car race paying $10,000 to win.
Fourth-place starter Len Krautheim powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Krautheim was chased by polesitter Scott Messimer and sixth-place starter Jordan Frontz for the first several laps. The event's first caution flag unfurled on lap five when Cale Reigle stopped in turn four. When the race resumed, Krautheim led the way while seventh-place starter Nate Snyder stormed into the runner up position. On the eighth circuit, Snyder made the winning pass by Krautheim using the inside lane in turn four. At the halfway point of the race, Snyder was leading Krautheim, 10th-place starter Adrian Shaffer, 11th-place starter Blane Heimbach and Frontz. On the 19th lap, Heimbach passed Krautheim for second and began to reel in the leader in lapped traffic. The final laps saw Heimbach move into striking distance, when the event's final caution flag regrouped the field on lap 24. For the chase to the checkered flag, Snyder held off Heimbach by a mere .26 of a second for the victory. Krautheim, Shaffer and Pat Cannon completed the top five.
Chris Shuey stormed from his sixth starting position to lead the first lap of the late model feature. Shuey was trailed by eighth-place starter Kenny Trevitz, who took command of the field with an inside pass in turn four on the second circuit. Shuey remained in striking distance and reclaimed the lead from Trevitz on the eighth circuit. At the same time, 11th-place starter Jeff Rine joined the battle for the lead. At one point, Shuey, Trevitz and Rine see-sawed for positions in lapped traffic.
The race was stopped briefly on lap 14 when Tony Adams' No. 88 caught on fire. No one was injured. During the red flag, Rine relinquished his third position when he entered the pit area to change a flat tire. When the race resumed, Trevitz challenged Shuey on the inside for the duration of the event. At the checkered flag, Shuey was victorious by just .87 of a second over Trevitz, Jim Yoder, Rine and Donnie Schick.
Second-place starter Chris Badger led the first five laps of the pro stock feature before fifth-place starter AJ Hoffman took the lead. With five laps remaining, 11th-place starter AJ Stroup and 12th-place starter Gary Beward made the race a suspenseful one while vying for the lead. At the checkered flag, Hoffman was victorious over Stroup, Beward, Brad Trump and Troy Miller.
Donnie Murphy started on the pole for both roadrunner races and led wire-to-wire for the victories. In the make up feature Murphy held off fourth-place starter Mark Spencer for the win. Defending champion Brad Mitch, Wayne Weist and Matt Drum completed the top five. In the regularly scheduled roadrunner feature, Murphy held off Mitch, Keith Bissinger, Bill Conrad and Weist for the victory in a closely contested battle between the top three contenders.
