SELINSGROVE, Pa. - July 8, 2006 - Kevin Nouse of Lewisberry drove to his first win of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday's 25-lap 358 sprint car main event on Foss Jewelers Night.
The win was Nouse's second of the weekend following his victory at Williams Grove Speedway the night before at the wheel of the Womex Inc./Golden family-owned No. 12B. Nouse stopped point leader Blane Heimbach's win streak at three when
Heimbach finished a close second in the main event.
Chris Shuey of Orefield drove to his third win of the season in the 25-lap late model feature, while Dan Jensen of Nescopeck won his first pro stock race of the year in the division's 15-lap main event.
Ray Rothfuss of McClure won his second 12-lap roadrunner event of the season.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division racing program of sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. PEPSI will be the title sponsor.
Polesitter Steve Gettle led the first two laps of the sprint car feature before fourth-place starter Duane Mausteller put his racer in front of the pack. The race was stopped on lap three for a multi-car crash involving Gettle, Phil Walter, Pat Cannon, Nate Snyder, Alan Spriggle, Bob Beidleman and Scott Messimer. All drivers escaped injury, and Snyder, Cannon and Beidleman were able to rejoin the field.
Mausteller set the pace with fifth-place starter Jordan Frontz in second and ninth-place starter Kevin Nouse in third. Nouse advanced to second on the 11th lap and set his sites on Mausteller for the lead.
On the 19th circuit, Nouse made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn four. On the 22nd lap, 12th-place starter Blane Heimbach stormed into second. The event's final caution flag unfurled with three laps remaining when Len Krautheim stopped his racer in turn one.
The chase to the checkered flag saw Nouse hold off Heimbach and post a 1.03 second margin of victory. Snyder, who restarted the event at the rear of the field following the lap three crash, rebounded for a third-place finish, while Mausteller and third-place starter Scott Flammer completed the top five.
Polesitter Dave Reed drove into the lead at the start of the late model race. Reed was followed by second-place starter Brett Schadel for the first six laps before eighth-place starter Chris Shuey advanced to second. On the 10th circuit, Shuey reeled in Reed and made the winning pass using the inside line in turns three and four. Shuey then checked out from the field until the end of the race when he began to encounter slower traffic. Fifth-place starter Dustin Hoffman closed in on Shuey in traffic to no avail. At the finish, Shuey was victorious over Hoffman, Donnie Schick, Reed and Tony Adams.
Polesitter Jim Jurasich led the first four laps of the pro stock race until fifth-place starter Dan Jensen took the lead with an inside pass by Jurasich in turn three.
Jensen maintained the lead with close competition behind him, including seventh-place starter Meade Hahn and eighth-place starter Peanut Heintzelman. At the finish, Jensen was victorious by just .78 of a second over Hahn. Heintzelman, AJ Stroup and Neil Langtry completed the top five.
