SELINSGROVE, Pa. - July 15, 2006 - Duane Mausteller of Bloomsburg led flag-to-flag and held off point leader Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove for his second win of the season in the 25-lap 358 sprint car feature Saturday night at
Selinsgrove Speedway.
Chris Shuey of Orefield powered to his fourth win of the season in the 25-lap late model feature, while defending champion Troy Miller of Tower City won his second race of the year in the 15-lap pro stock main event. Donnie Murphy of Tower City won his fifth 12-lap roadrunner race of the season.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present an open wheel doubleheader at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, featuring the URC sprint cars, 358 sprint cars, late models and pro stocks, sponsored by Harry's U-Pull It Auto Parts.
A spectacular crash occurred in turn four at the start of the sprint car feature when last week's winner Kevin Nouse flipped out over the guardrail. Also involved in the crash were Bob Beidleman, Phil Walter and Steve Jorda. All drivers escaped injury.
On the restart, fourth-place starter Duane Mausteller drove into the lead. Mausteller was chased by polesitter Adam Romig and second-place starter Kyle Bachman. Third-place starter Scott Flammer reclaimed the position on the fifth circuit with a pass by Bachman.
At the midway point of the race, Romig rolled to a stop on the backstretch following contact with the fourth-turn guardrail the
previous lap. Flammer inherited the runner up position, with Bachman, eighth-place starter Adrian Shaffer and 11th-place starter Blane Heimbach lined up behind him. Flammer then dropped out of the race on lap 14, giving the runner up position to Bachman. The caution flag unfurled again on lap 18 when Jordan Frontz's No. 19 sprinter blew an engine entering turn one.
When the race resumed, Bachman held off Heimbach until a lap 21 restart. Heimbach then raced in Mausteller's shadow for the duration of the event. Mausteller held off each challenge Heimbach posed and posted the win by just half a second. Ninth-place starter Nate Snyder, 17th-place starter Pat Cannon and Bachman completed the top five.
Second-place starter Bud Witmer powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Witmer was trailed by fourth-place starter Chris Wilkinson and fifth-place starter Tony Adams. On the sixth circuit, Adams advanced to second while ninth-place starter Chris Shuey stormed into the top five. At the halfway point, Witmer was leading Adams, sixth-place starter Dustin Hoffman and Shuey.
On the 15th lap, Shuey moved into second and set his sites on Witmer. On a lap 16 restart, Shuey passed Witmer for the lead using the outside lane in turns one and two. Shuey then pulled away from the field and posted a five second margin of victory over Adams, Witmer, Donnie Schick, and Hoffman.
A ten-car crash in turn two at the start of the pro stock feature put original ninth-place starter Troy Miller near the front of the field for the restart. Miller powered into the lead and held off eighth-place starter Peanut Heintzelman during the final laps of the race.
Third-place starter Jason Smith held the runner up position for most of the event but settled for third, while 11th-place starter AJ Hoffman and 13th-place starter Lon Savage Jr. completed the top five.
Second-place starter Doug Minium led the first lap of the roadrunner event before his racer developed problems on the second circuit. Fourth-place starter Cory Long took over the lead from Minium until the sixth lap, when seventh-place starter Donnie Murphy powered into the lead.
Murphy went on to win the event over two-time winner and sixth-place starter Ray Rothfuss. Matt Drum, Long and Mark Spencer completed the top five.
