SELINSGROVE, Pa. - July 1, 2006 - Jeff Rine of Danville drove to his third win of the season in Saturday night's Eighth Annual Salem RV Center/Philips Products Late Model Open at Selinsgrove Speedway. Rine, second in the point standings, collected $2,000 for his victory in the 30-lap event. Rine was also the night's fast qualifier with a lap time of 20.605.
Point leader Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove continued his winning streak at Selinsgrove by capturing his sixth win of the season in the 25-lap 358 sprint car feature behind the wheel of the Goff Racing/Creasy Signs No. 12.
Matt Johnson of New Berlin won his first pro stock main event of the season in the division's 15-lap race, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville won his fourth 12-lap roadrunner event this year.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, sponsored by Foss Jewelers. The Williams Grove Oldtimers will also have a display of classic race cars.
Polesitter Scott Messimer led the first lap of the sprint car feature. Messimer was passed by fourth-place starter Scott Flammer in turn four on lap two for the lead. Seventh-place starter Kevin Nouse took over second on the fifth circuit.
A six-car crash occurred on the backstretch on the fifth circuit. Nate Snyder and Larry Kelleher flipped over in their race cars; all drivers escaped injury.
When the race resumed, Flammer continued to set the pace while Nouse and 12th-place starter Blane Heimbach were in close pursuit. Heimbach passed Nouse for second on the 10th circuit and began to reel in Flammer.
On the 16th lap Heimbach made the winning pass by Flammer using the inside lane in turn one. Heimbach then stretched his lead over the field, posting a 3.03 second margin of victory at the finish. Nouse, Flammer, Len Krautheim and Jordan Frontz completed the top five.
Chris Shuey and Scott Haus, two former winners of the Late Model Open, were sidelined from the event following a first lap crash in turn four. Jim Yoder, Ken Trevitz, and Eric Hons were also involved in the melee. Defending winner Jeff Rine found himself starting third for the restart and quickly powered into the lead. Rine was chased by polesitter Tony Adams and seventh-place starter Donnie Schick for the first half of the event.
It was on the 16th circuit when Schick drove by Adams for second and set his sites on the leader. Schick was Rine's most serious challenger for the duration of the event. On several occasions, Schick was in striking distance but to no avail. Rine kept his momentum using the high line around the track and posted a narrow .53 of a second victory over Schick, Adams, Trevitz, and Bud Witmer.
Polesitter Matt Johnson wired the field for his win in the pro stock feature. On the fifth lap, fifth-place starter Peanut Heintzleman passed Jim Jurasich for second. Heintzelman, along with 10th-place starter AJ Stroup and 11th-place starter AJ Hoffman, pressured Johnson for the lead and win for the duration of the event.
At the checkered flag, Johnson was victorious by just .25 of a second over Heintzelman, Stroup, Hoffman and Chris Badger.
Keith Bissinger started the roadrunner race in the sixth position and took the lead by the completion of the first lap. Bissinger held off four-time winner and seventh-place starter Donnie Murphy for the close victory. Doug Minium, point leader Matt Drum and Mark Spencer completed the top five.
