SELINSGROVE, Pa. - August 5, 2006 - Lance Dewease of Fayettville led flag-to-flag for his $10,000 victory in the 25-lap National Sprint Tour (NST) 410 sprint car race Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The win was the 10th of Dewease's career at the track and 11th overall of the 2006 season at the wheel of the Hamm No. 25 sprint car, including Thursday night's victory against the NST at Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown.
Jason Solwold of Mt. Vernon, Wash., was the fast qualifier with a lap time of 16.944, his sixth fast time of the season and second at Selinsgrove.
AJ Hoffman of Richfield won his sixth pro stock race of the season in the division's 15-lap main event.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a program of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, co-sponsored by Sunbury Motors and Harry's U-Pull It Auto Parts.
Tim Kaeding of Campbell, Calif., won the first six-lap dash while Dewease took the checkered flag in the second dash. Dewease selected the inside lane and started on the pole for the main event.
At the drop of the green flag, Dewease powered into the lead and never faltered. Second-place starter Kaeding attempted to keep Dewease within striking distance as the leaders quickly began to encounter slower traffic. Steve Kinser of Bloomington, Ind., started the event fourth and raced third for the most of the event. At the midway point of the race, an intense battle unfolded for the runner up position between Kaeding and Kinser.
Late in the race, Kinser secured the second position and began to reel in Dewease. At the checkered flag, Dewease was victorious in the non-stop event by 1.94 seconds over Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Tim Kaeding, & Jason Solwold.
The top ten finishers included an outstanding run by Selinsgrove local full time 358 driver Mike Walter, who had to quailfy through the B-Main after timing 5th overall. After starting the A-Main 13th, he backed up his fast time trial effort by finishing 6th in the A-Main. Jeff Shepard, Jason Myers, Lucas Wolfe and Paul McMahan finished 7th thru 10th. Heat events for the 35 sprint car entries were won by Jason Sides, TJ Stutts, Todd Shaffer and Shepard. The B-Main was won by McMahan.
Third-place starter Lon Savage Jr. drove into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Savage was chased by second-place starter John Wert for the first four laps before 11th-place starter AJ Hoffman advanced to second. On the 10th circuit, Hoffman passed Savage for the lead in turn two and went on to take the checkered flag. Savage, Dan Jensen, Jim Somers and Jason Smith completed the top five.
