Dietrich, Stremme win in Selinsgrove Speedway’s return
By Steve Williams For The Daily Item SELINSGROVE - Under sunny skies and buffeted by a brisk wind, Selinsgrove Speedway got the second part of its season underway Sunday. The track took a two-week hiatus after a water leak at the decades-old facility. Former track champion Danny Dietrich, of Gettysburg, was the winner in the 410 sprint cars feature, while former NASCAR driver David Stremme won the I MCA Modifieds event. Blane Heimbach shot from the pole position to the front of the sprint car feature, followed by Dylan Cisney, Dietrich, Tyler Ross and Anthony Macri. Heimbach and Cisney exchanged the lead until lap five when Cisney took control. Two laps later, Dietrich moved to second, and Macri followed into third. Cisney opened a 1 '/2-- seconds lead, but Dietrich was on his tail by lap 18 and tried to get around on the high side of turn four. Dietrich got loose, which allowed Cisney to get away. It appeared as though Cisney was headed to victory lane when Dietrich changed to the low line and drove into the lead coming off the second turn on lap 23, ultimately winning by 0.158 seconds. “We were all running around the high side,” Dietrich said. “I knew if I wanted to get by him, I was going to have to change my line. So I went down low. “We’ve been mixing and matching the old and the new tires.” Dietrich added, referring to new tires Hoosier introduced. “It’s been working out pretty good for us. We’ve been really consistent here at the beginning of the season. My guys have been working really hard, and it shows.” Cisney, Macri, Heimbach and Devon Borden rounded out the top five. The 410 heats were won by Freddie Rahmer, Dietrich and Heimbach. Macri set a fast time of 17.247 seconds in the time trials. Stremme, who started the modified race in 10th position, took the lead on the third lap and drove to an easy victory. Rich Michael Jr., Eddie Sites, Brad Sites and Rodney Morgan finished in the top five. Keith Jack and Michael Jr. won the the IMCA Modified heats.

May 6, 2023 Fannasy, Frye, Bissinger win at Selinsgrove
By Steve Williams
For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE - The Winged Super Sportsmen made a stop at Selinsgrove Speedway Saturday night and Jay Fannasy pulled off the win. The Late Models and Roadrunners were also making their first appearance of the season with Coleby Frye winning the Late Models and Keith Bissinger parked “The Tank” in the Roadrunner Victory Lane.
Matt Ondek shot to the front of the Super Sportsmen feature, and was followed by John Edkin, Jay Fannasy, Scott Dellinger and Tony Rhome. By lap 3, Fannasy got by Edkin then got inside of Ondek and passed him for the lead off turn two. Lap 11 caution put Edkin on Fannasy’s nerf bar, but Fannasey pulled away. Late in the race, Edkin drew close, but couldn’t make a pass for the lead. Fannasy ran the rest of the distance and took the checkered flag over Edkin, Tony Jackson, Ondek and Kenny Edkin. “I saw the push trucks running in the top groove.” Fannasy said. “I put my car up there and didn’t lift until I saw the 22 (Daniel John) blow a tire and then I held on. “I had oil sprayed all over my drivers’ suit a few weeks ago, and Lucas Wolfe lent me one of his. He may not get it back.” Sportsmen heats went to Jackson, Mike Enders and Dellinger.
Frye rocketed to the front of the Late Model race followed by Bryan Bernheisel, Dylan Yoder, Jim Bernheisel and Chris Casner. The caution came out on lap four when Jim Bernheisel slammed the inside backstretch fence and collected Gene Knaub. The track was immediately red flagged to make the cleanup efforts easier. The drivers were uninjured. Frye stayed in front on the double-file restart, but Yoder went up to the fence and passed Bryan Bernheisel for second. Yoder dogged Frye for several laps hoping to take advantage of lapped traffic, but Frye sliced through, opening an even larger lead. A lap 12 caution for Eric Hons slowed the pace. The side-by-side restart put Yoder on the front row but this time Bernheisel slid underneath to regain second and brought Dan Stone along into third. Yoder fought his way back ahead of Stone and planted the nose of his number 24 racer on the rear bumper of Bernheisel. The front three ran nose to tail through lapped traffic when Stone rejoined the fray.
A lap 24 caution grouped the field again, but this time without Bernheisel who dropped from the action. Frye led the final lap winning over Yoder, Stone, Andrew Yoder and Deshawn Gingerich. “This is our first race of the season, so I didn’t want to see those cautions.” Frye said. “It did give me a chance to catch my breath though. I’ve been working hard all winter and haven’t had a chance to work out. “I saw (Dylan) Yoder pull beside me on the front stretch but my car was getting through the middle of the turn. I did screw up on that last lap and missed my mark and got up high. Yoder must have been back a little bit.” Stone, Jim Yoder and Bryan Bernheisel were winners in the Late Model heats.
Matt Ney took the Roadrunner race lead, but all eyes were on Bissinger, who slid into second from row three. Levi Vial, Tom Underwood and Jake Jones followed in the top five. Bissinger used the marbles by the fence on the second lap to take the lead. By the middle part of the race, Jones was all over the back of “The Tank” as the pair got some separation on the rest of the field. Late in the race Vial pulled to Jones rear when the caution flew on the last lap. That was bad news for Jones, who withdrew from the race with a smoking engine, Bissinger won over Vial, Ney, Underwood and Nate Romig. Vial and Romig won the Roadrunner heats. Macri, Frye earn victories at Selinsgrove By Steve Williams
For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE - The Selinsgrove Speedway honored a past champion Sunday night with Anthony Macri wiring the field in the Ray Tilley Classic.
Coleby Frye made it two in a row in the Late Models.
The Speedway also honored Sharon Williamson, wife of former Sprint Car track champion Kramer Williamson. Sharon passed away earlier in the week and the fans, racers and officials wore pink.
Macri rocketed to the front of the Tilley Classic over Tyler Ross, Danny Dietrich, Rico Abreu and Lucas Wolfe.
Macri, who has been splitting time between competing locally and racing in the Mid-West, opened a big lead and the even lapped traffic didn’t slow him down. By the halfway point, he led by over five seconds.
With 10 laps remaining, the battle for second heated up as Dietrich got by Ross and Abreu was soon on his tail tank.
A caution flag slowed the field with four laps remaining.
With Dietrich on Macri’s tail, he moved up to the outside while Macri held his racer down low. Dietrich got to his tail, but eventually Macri prevailed by 1.58 seconds over Dietrich, Abreu, Ross and Justin Whittal.
“I really didn’t know how far we were into the race when the yellow came out,” Macri said. “I was using the high groove, but I knew it would rubber up and I’d have to come down low. I saw some of the lapped cars were faster down low than I was up high, so that’s when I came down.”
‘At these speeds we just react, we don’t really have a lot of time to think. We’ve been racing a lot all over the place and it really helps.”
Abreu, Macri and Michael Walter earned wins in Sprint Car heat races. Ross set a fast time of 17.051 seconds in time trials.
Austin Berry jumped to the front of the Late Model race followed by Dylan Yoder, Frye, Nathan Long and Brett Schadel.
Hayes Mattern brought out a lap four caution, spinning in the first turn.
With the Late Models restarting side by side, Frye and Berry raced even until Berry took control again. The restart benefitted Rick Eckert, who moved into the top five.
On laD 13. Frve was able to nose under Berry and root him up out of the bottom lane, taking the lead at the start-finish line. Two laps later, the caution flew again for debris on the speedway.
Jason Hons spun on lap 17, collecting Kody Lyter in the process. Both cars continued.
Frye led the final laps for his second consecutive win over Berry, Yoder, Schadel and Eckert.
“The track reallv rubbered up, so I knew that lapped traffic would come into play.” Frye said. “That’s why I jumped on Austin when I could. When you are really fast here, sometimes you have to jump out of your lane, but I tried to stay low.”
“We come here to race. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it’s bad, but we come to win.”
Frye, Yoder and Eckert won Late Model heats.

Austin Reed, Daulton Bigler and Levi Vial Take June 10 Checkers Austin Reed shed some early season misfortune Saturday Night at the Selinsgrove Speedway winning the PASS 305 Sprint Car feature.
Daulton Bigler wired the Limited Late Model field for his first win at the speedway.
Reed rocketed to the front of the Sprint Car feature from the outside pole position followed Doug Dodson from the second row, pole sitter Kenny Heffner, Erick Knopp and Logan Jones.
Mike Alleman rolled to a stop in the fourth turn bringing out a lap one caution.
On the restart Reed and Dodson opened a gap on the rest of the field running nose to tail.
A lap nine tangle between Colton Hoover and Dustin Young brought the yellow out as the front pair was starting to hit lapped traffic.
Dodson applied pressure on the low side while Ken Duke Jr and Logan Spahr made big moves further back in the pack.
Reed was able to keep Dodson behind him the rest of the distance winning by 1.021 seconds. Spahr, Heffner and Duke Jr. Rounded out the top five.
“I like these high speed places.” Reed said. “Our season hasn’t been going as good as we had hoped but this will help. I knew Doug (Dodson) was down there so I just held her steady.”
It was Reed’s second ever win at the speedway.
305 Sprint Car heats were won by Kopp, Dodson, Seth Schnoke and Logan Jones. Dustin Young won the B-Main.
Daulton Bigler got the jump on Devin Frey and took the lead of the Limited Late Model race. Jim Yoder, DJ Myers and Tyson Mowery followed.
JR Toner brought out his second caution with a spin in turn two on lap four. Toner withdrew from the competition.
As the front pair drove away, Myers got by Yoder for third and Tommy Slanker started applying pressure on Yoder for fourth. Myers soon joined the front two battling for the point.
Frey, while racing a close second, slowed on lap 12 bringing out the caution flag.
Myers tested Bigler over the next several laps trying to get underneath but Bigler held on for his first win by 4.3 seconds over, Myers, Yoder, Slanker and Zach Kauffman.
“I knew Devin (Frey) was underneath me a couple of times.” Bigler said. “We’ve been friends for a long time so I knew he’d race me clean. We had on hard tires so it took a while for them to come in after the cautions.”
Frey, Bigler and Myers won Limited Late Model heats .
Levi Vial came from deep in the pack to win his first Roadrunner feature of the season. The race was checkered after troubles caused the race to exceed the 20 minute time limit.
Jake Jones, Keith Bissinger, Alex Updegraff and Mike Goodwin rounded out the top five.

Satterlee tracks down leader to win Paul Long Memorial
By Steve Williams
For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE - The Appalachian Mountain Speedweek wrapped up late Sunday night at Selinsgrove Speedway with the Paul Long Memorial. Gregg Satterlee, of Rochester Mills, took the win and the $6,300 first-place prize.
With his second-place finish, Tyler Emory from King George, Virginia, was crowned the Speedweek champion.
The URC Sprint Cars were also on the schedule after being rained out two weeks ago. Tyler Reeser in just his second race in his new ride won the 25-lap feature regaining the lead, late in the race.
Tyler Emory shot to the front of the Late Model feature from the outside pole followed by Gregg Satterlee, Hayes Mattern, Rick Eckert and Jason Covert.
Emory, who had already won two Speedweek races, soon opened a sizable lead as the front runners started to get into lapped traffic.
A lap 10 caution was unfurled when Coleby Frye stopped on the speedway.
Choosing the outside position on the two-abreast restart, Emory went back up to the fence to maintain the point and again opened a large lead.
A lap 14 caution came out again, this time for defending track champion, Bryan Bernheisel.
Emory again chose the outside to restart as the cars behind reshuffled with Covert moving to fourth and Eddie Carrier Jr. moving to sixth.
With 10 laps remaining the front three of Emory, Satterlee and Eckert had broken from the pack. Satterlee stalked Emory, slowly chipping into his lead and made the pass for the win coming off turn two with seven laps remaining.
Satterlee went on to win by 1.478 seconds over Emory, Eckert, Carrier Jr. and Dylan Yoder.
Frye, Jeff Rine, Mike Lupfer and Carrier Jr won the Late Model Heats. Matt Cosner and Randy Christine won the B -Mains.
Tylor Emory set fast time in time trials at 18.361 seconds “It feels good to finish a long stretch of racing with a win,” Satterlee said. “We’d hoped we would have run a little better on some nights The competition was tough with all the good cars.
“We were able to get by Tyler down low but congratulations to him and those guys on the championship. Thanks to Jim (Bernheisel) for reviving this series we are looking forward to doing it again next year.”
Tyler Reeser rocketed to the front of the Sprint Car feature leading Derek Hauck, pole-sitter Matt Swift, Jake Karklin and Josh Weller into the first turn.
Bryan Nornhold brought out the caution on lap seven when he slowed but could not get off the speedway.
Reeser maintained the lead, but with Hauck on his tail tank, the caution came out again one lap later when Swift and TJ Stutts got together.
Following a rash of yellow flags, Jason Shultz started a charge forward moving to fourth with Mark Smith on his tail.
Reeser and Hauck sliced through traffic with Hauck taking the lead down the backstretch on lap 18 using lapped traffic to his advantage but Reeser fought back regaining the lead in lapped traffic and the win with just two laps remaining. Hauck, Josh Weller, Shultz and Smith rounded out the top five.
“We both got caught up in lapped traffic,” Reeser said. “I was able to stay with him and got back by on the low side.” The win was Reeser’s first ever at the speedway.
URC Sprint Car heats went to Jake Karklin, Matt Swift and Tyler Reeser. Reese Nowotarski won the B-Main.

Reed, Mitch pick up Selinsgrove feature wins
- By Steve Williams For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE — After a July 4th weekend filled with thunderstorms and cancellations, the Selinsgrove Speedway opened a two-race weekend Saturday night with Todd Reed picking up the win in the PASS 305 Sprint Cars. In the big race of the season, Brad Mitch, who ran his first race of the season, and started 10th, won the Lil’ Bob’s Roadrunner feature against a large field. Zach Rhodes blasted to the front of the sprint car feature from the pole followed by Kenny Heffner, Austin Reed, Timmy Bittner and Kruz Kepner. A lap three caution came out for Bittner, who slowed on the speedway. While under caution, Paul Moyer and Jonathan Swift also pulled from competition. Rhoads maintained the point but soon had Reed on his tail as Heffner fell back with nose wing damage. Kepner took over third as Jeff Weaver and Doug Dodson battled for fifth. A lap 13 melee in the fourth turn brought out the yellow again, but was quickly changed to a red for fuel leaking from Chad Phillips racer. No drivers were injured. On the restart, Reed took the high line around the speedway, and was glued to the back of Rhodes. On lap 16, he nosed ahead but Rhodes fought back to maintain the lead. On the next lap, Reed came off the second turn, and drove into the lead and win. Rhodes, Dodson, Kepner and Ken Duke Jr. rounded out the top five. “I was glad for that restart.” Reed said. “They gave me a little lane around the top, and I knew my car was good on restarts, but then the motor sputtered. I thought, ‘Jeez’, but it picked back up, and I really got off the second turn and held on in the third and fourth turn.” 305 Sprint Car heats were won by Rhoads, Bittner and Weaver. Alex Updegraff shot to the front of the 20-lap Roadrunner feature followed by Mike Goodwin, Matt Ney, Bob Bussey and Mitch. Jake Jones and Nate Romig quickly got by Bussey as Goodwin pulled beside Updegraff down the back stretch on the second lap then suddenly slowed to a stop with a flat tire. Following the restart, Jones dogged Ney at times, pulling beside him before making the pass for second. A lap later Jones was beside Updegraff before making the pass for the lead coming off the second turn in the outside lane. Mitch followed into second, and Ney stopped on the track bringing out the yellow. When the race resumed, the top four ran nose to tail in a high speed game of tag before Mitch ducked low in the third turn, and took the lead. Mitch opened a lead and beat Romig, Updegraff, Will Long and Ty Huntsberger. “I knew I’d have to be patient with Jake.” Mitch said. “He was really fast up high so I knew I’d have to get him low.” Victorious in the Roadrunner heats were Ney, Romig and Goodwin. A scary looking accident in the third turn involving Chris Leitzel and Wayne Shaffer occurred late in the Limited Late Model feature with Leitzel ending up on his roof on the inside guardrail. Neither driver was injured but the cleanup effort was still underway at press time. July 23, 2023 Borden wins 410 feature; Weller wins Whitcomb Memorial race By Steve Williams
For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE - The 410 sprint cars returned to Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday night.
Devon Borden from Raymond Washington raced to the win from deep in the field.
The URC 360 sprint cars were also on hand for the Joe Whitcomb Memorial. Series point leader Josh Weller picked up the victory.
Dylan Cisney shot to the front of the 410 sprint car feature from the outside front row starting position, and followed by Derek Locke, Danny Dietrich, Steve Buckwalter and TJ Stutts.
Cisney, the Mayor of Port Royal, quickly opened a straight-away lead as Dietrich moved into second, and started to close down on the lead. Dietrich chopped about three quarters of a second off the lead before a lap nine caution flew for Locke, who smacked the fourth turn fence.
The restart saw Borden, who started the feature ninth, blast by Dietrich coming out of turn two, and a lap 21 yellow put him on Cisney’s rear nerf bar.
Borden ran low, and after a two-lap battle took the lead. A lap later, Dietrich was running second. Borden went on to claim his first win at the speedway by 1.5 seconds over Dietrich, Cisney, Jason Shultz and Buckwalter.
“I knew it would come down to the restart.” Borden said. “I got right on his rear bumper, and timed it just right to get by. Wow, coming from ninth, my guys gave me a great car.
Shultz and Dietrich took the 410 sprint car heat races.
The initial start of the URC feature was quickly red flagged when Jason Shultz hit the back stretch fence, hard, spun and came to a stop. Shultz was not injured.
On the restart, Adam Carberry took the lead from the pole position, and was followed by Mike Thompson, Weller, Kyle Reinhardt and Kyle Smith.
Weller and Reinhardt got by Thompson. The top three running under a blanket, pulled away from the rest of the field until a lap four caution for a slowing Reese Nowotarski bunched the field.
Weller stalked Carberry trying to get by on the bottom side but Carberry held strong until Weller finally got by in the third turn on lap 18. The caution again came out with five laps to go for a spinning John Smith.
Reinhardt, running second on the restart, was not able to keep pace with Weller, and settled for the runner-up position. Smith, Carberry and Jacob Galloway rounded out the top five.
Smith and Weller won the URC Sprint Car heats. 410 Sprint Car A-Main (25 Laps)(19 Entries) A-Main: 1. 23 Devon Borden 2. 48 Danny Dietrich 3. 5 Dylan Cisney 4. 35 Jason Shultz 5. 17B Steve Buckwalter 6. 11 TJ Stutts 7. 5W Lucas Wolfe 8. 5K Jake Karklin 9. 75 Tyler Ross 10. 12 Blane Heimbach 11. 39 Cameron Smith 12. 20 Tim Buckwalter 13. 33W Michael Walter II 14. 77 Derek Locke 15. 90 Jordan Givler 16. 35E Tyler Esh 17. 14T Tyler Walton 18. 55 Dallas Schott 19. 88C Chad Miller

July 29, 2023 Young, Jones and Sites pick up wins at Selinsgrove Speedway
By Steve Williams For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE - Drew Young of Beaver Spings took the lead on lap nine and drove to his first PASS 305 Sprint Car win at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night.
Jake Jones won the Roadrunner race and Kody Sites won the Street Stock feature.
Young won the drag race down the front stretch at the start of the Sprint Car race, but Doug Dodson put momentum to work taking the lead at the conclusion of lap one. Young, Zach Rhodes, Jason Roush and Kenny Heffner followed in the top five.
Young stayed glued to Dodson's tail and on lap nine swept underneath in turn four and took the lead. Dodson kept pace and drew close in lapped traffic, but on an open track Young stretched his lead.
Young held on for his first win by 2.068 seconds over, Dodson, Rhodes, Heffner and Roush.
“I knew it was going to be tough to get around Doug.” Young said. “He doesn't make mistakes. I went low into the third turn and held on. It worked coming off four. After that, I just hung on.”
Austin Reed, Erin Statler and Rhodes were winners of the 305 Sprint Car heats.
Levi Vial blasted to the front of the Roadrunner feature, but spun at the completion of lap one taking runner up Matt Ney with him. Both cars rejoined the field but it put Nate Romig, Alex Updegraff, Jones, Miranda Minium and Tom Underwood in the top five.
Jones soon nosed ahead of Updegraff for the runner up spot and took off after Romig.
On lap seven, Jones drove high into turn one, turned down and shot past Romig for the lead going down the back straight.
“I was driving like I had an egg under the accelerator pedal.” Jones said. “I went into one high and diamond off turn two. If you get your car straight, it works really great.”
Updegraff, Minium and Kyle Knaub finished after Jones and Roming.
Jones and Romig were also victorious in the Roadrunner heat races.
Kody Sites took the lead at the start of the BAPS Speedway Street Stock race and led the entire distance winning over Stan Warner, Jake Toney, Danny Beard and Jim Palm.

August 5, 2023 Spahr returns to track, victory lane By Steve Williams For The Daily Item A month ago, Logan Spahr rode the third turn fence at Selinsgrove Speedway. The mishap extensively damaged the frame and put his team out of commission for a few weeks. Saturday night Spahr returned to victory lane in the same car, nicknamed “The Spray Paint Bandit,” winning the PASS 305 Sprint Car race. Part-time race car driver and part-time softball coach Brad Mitch continued to bat 1.000 winning the Roadrunner race. In the 305 sprints, Spahr rocketed to the front of the feature, followed by Timmy Bittner, Jason Roush, Seth Schnoke and Austin Reed. Early in the race Ken Duke Jr. started his move forward and was running third by lap five. Duke had just passed Bittner for second when the caution flew for Doug Dodson who stopped in the first turn after hitting the fence, returning him to third for the restart. Spahr again opened a lead while Duke re-passed Bittner for the runner-up slot behind the leader. Duke was not able to close the distance and had to settle for second behind Spahr. Schnoke, Bittner and Zach Rhodes rounded out the top five. “I thought maybe I had forgotten how to get here,” Spahr said, standing in victory lane. “The front of the car was pretty much torn off. My guys worked really hard to get it put back together and it feels good to get back in the groove again. Last year this place was our favorite place to race but this year our luck has been horrible.” The win was Spahr’s eighth of the season but his first since June 17. Sprint car heats were won by Reed, Spahr and Drew Young Mitch blasted to the point of the Roadrunner feature followed closely by Levi Vial, Scott Dunham, Ty Huntsberger and Keith Bissinger. Mitch, in only his second outing of the season, weathered pressure first from Vial and then after a restart, Dunham but held on to win by 1.5 seconds over Dunham, Vial, Bissinger and Huntsberger. “I should have never won that race,” Mitch said. “My motor wasn’t running right. I kept waiting for Jake (Jones) or Bissy (Keith Bissinger) to drive by me. I’d like to thank everybody that helps me out. They are the real reason I won.” Nate Romig and Bissinger won the Roadrunner heats. August 20, 2023 Steve Williams for the Daily Item The All Star Circuit of Champions wrapped up its New York/Pennsylvania swing Sunday night at Selinsgrove Speedway with Zeb Wise picking up the 30-lap Kramer Cup Memorial win and the $10,000 first-place prize.
Kruz Kepner from Kreamer was the winner of the PASS 305 Sprint Car feature.
Wise rocketed to the front of the All Star sprint car feature, followed by Kerry Madsen, Tyler Courtney, Justin Peck and Dylan Cisney.
In a high-speed chase, Wise immediately opened a sizable lead. By the midway point, Wise still led, though Madsen drew close in traffic. All eyes soon shifted to Brent Marks, who worked his way to third, and, a lap later, passed Madsen for second.
Marks was unable to track down the high-flying Wise who led from green to checkered.
Marks, Danny Dietrich, Courtney and Peck rounded out the top five.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Wise said. “I really stink at half-miles, and we hesitated to put this Shaver Ford engine in with the points chase so close, but it was really bad-fast.”
Wise held a 96-point lead over Chris Windom at the start of the race.
“This really sets us up for the end of the season, and really gives us a boost,” Wise said.
An anonymous donor gives $1,000 to the charity of the driver’s choice if an All Star regular wins. Wise donated that prize to Race Rudeen Foundation to help fight addiction.
All Star heats were won by Madsen, Peck and Wise. Wise won the dash, and Courtney set a fast time trial of 16.203 seconds.
The race was the All Stars’ first Selinsgrove visit in five years, and it was the 18th time the series visited the track with 17 different winners, including Bobbie Adamson, who won the first race in 1970.
Kruz Kepner took the early lead of the PASS race, but Logan Spahr muscled his way by to lead the first lap. Austin Reed, Zach Rhodes and Mike Alleman followed.
The caution flew on lap three for a stalled Chris Kreider.
Kepner tested low on the restart, and re-took the lead off turn four. Spahr did not give up easily, almost tagging the outside fence in an attempt to keep pace. Kepner was in cruise control until Paul Moyer got a flat tire and brought out the yellow at the halfway mark.
Kepner easily held the lead on the restart, as Spahr got pressure and was passed by Reed.
Kepner, who started his racing career winning six championships in a go kart at Selinsgrove Raceway Park, the venue’s fifth-mile inner oval, held on for his first win on the big track by 5.5 seconds over, Reed, Rhoads, Ken Duke Jr. and Tim Iulg.
Duke, Owen Dimm and Alleman were victorious in the PASS heats.

August 26, 2023 Fast Melair finally rewarded with victory
By Steve Williams
For The Daily Item
SELINSGROVE - Mike Melair has been fast at Selinsgrove Speedway this season, and now has the victory to show for it. Melair won the PASS 305 sprint car feature on Saturday for his first win of the season.
Trent Brenneman wired the field for the Limited Late Model win and Nate Romig won his first ever Roadrunner race.
Melair blasted to the front of the sprint car feature from the pole position but was quickly passed by Tyler Snook. Zach Rhoades, Austin Reed and Ken Duke Jr. followed.
Melair dove low going into the first turn, and regained the lead by the start of the second lap. Rhoads was soon on the move getting by Snook, and Nick Sweigart joined the fray in fifth.
By the crossed flags, Rhoades was glued to Melair’s rear nerf bar.
Melair was able to open a lead in clean air, but Rhoades closed the gap in traffic. Also able to draw close was Sweigart, who stole second from Rhoads in the final few feet of the race.
Melair’s margin of victory was .466 seconds over Sweigart, Rhodes, Snook and Duke.
“I heard him coming up behind me.” Melair said of Snook. “He had a head of steam, and drove hard into the turn. I was patient and when he washed up, I turned underneath him” Sprint car heats went to Kenny Heffner, Duke Jr. and Mike Alleman. John Smith won the consolation.
Brenneman drove to the front of the limited late model feature from the pole position, followed by Taylor Farling, Shaun Miller, Maddox Smith and Jared Fulkroad.
Miller and Fulkroad started to show some speed, advancing to second and fourth, respectively, when the caution flew on lap nine when Bucky Zeger spun in turn one.
Farling used the restart to retake second from Miller, a spot Miller got back two laps later. The red flag flew over the speedway on lap 13 for Miller, who slammed into the outside fence, while still running second. Miller, a feature winner earlier this year, was able to walk to the ambulance where he was checked out. No further information was available.
Brenneman led the final seven laps, winning by 3.8 seconds over Farling, Fulkroad, Bigler and Smith.
“The track was really good tonight.” Brenneman said. “I knew starting up front would help, keeping the car in clean air.”
Miller and Brenneman won the Limited Late Model heats. Romig grabbed the lead of the Roadrunner feature from the outside pole position, followed by Scott Dunham, Bob Bussey, Jake Jones and Levi Vial.
By lap three, Bussey was running second, and started to close on Romig. Jones was soon running third. Bussey pressed low as Jones dropped from the competition.
The caution came out with one lap remaking when Keith Bissinger spun in turn four.
Romig led the final lap beating Bussey, Dunham, Vial and Ty Huntsberger.
“He showed me a fender and I thought if he runs us hard into the turn I wasn’t sure what was going to happen.” Romig said. “I was running right on the edge.”
Road runner heats were won bv Jones and Huntsberger.

September 16, 2023 Marks Claims 410 National Open Nace Memorial, Kenny Heffner Takes PASS Race To Hunting Season and Jones Wins Roadrunner Feature With the end of the season fast approaching Selinsgrove Speedway held the 41st Annual 410 Sprint Car National Open Jim Nace Memorial Saturday night.
Seventh starting Brent Marks won the 44 lap feature and the $44,000 prize in addition to the halfway bonus.
The PASS 305 Sprint Cars were also on hand for the Race to Hunting season. Kenny Heffner wired the field for the win, his second at the track.
The Roadrunners were won by Jake Jones.
Dylan Cisney flew around the the top of the track to take the lead in the Nace Memorial; he was followed by Danny Dietrich, Justin Peck, Devon Borden and Brian Brown
On lap eight Dietrich passed Cisney for the lead and immediately started to drive away from the field. As Dietrich led, Brent Marks started to show some speed and moved into third.
Dietrich had built up a four second lead when he spun in turn two, on lap 16, handing the point to Marks who had passed Cisney for the runnerup spot. Dietrich was able to continue after replacing a right rear tire, which caused the spin.
The red flag flew over the speedway on lap 18 when Austin Bishop flipped his mount in turn one and collected Brent Shearer. Both drivers were un-injured.
Borden used the restart to take second from Cisney but could not catch Marks when the race was stopped at lap 22, the halfway point of the race giving the drivers a five minute pit stop.
Marks won $2600 as the halfway leader bonus.
“We were really good in the first segment.” Marks said, sitting on the front stretch. “We’re going to make a few changes and hopefully getting a little better.”
The restart of the second 22 lap segment was two abreast putting Borden on the outside of Marks on the front row.
Borden tried to dive under Marks but Marks, up on the fence, held the lead while Peck moved to third, Brown into fourth.
As the front five sliced through traffic Dietrich again re-entered the picture in sixth. Lap 33 saw Peck back in second and Dietrich in fifth while Marks stretched the lead to over five seconds.
Marks led the rest of the way finishing 4.5 seconds in front of Peck, Dietrich, Borden and Brown.
“Yeah this car was stellar in the feature, we weren’t very good in the heat but we got it together.” Marks said. “We finally got this win, we always seemed to come up short but we finally got the win.”
“We only changed the left rear tire at the break. We didn’t want to mess with the balance so we didn’t so anything else.”
410 sprint Car heats were won by Borden, Cisney and Peck. Brown set a fast time of 15.959 seconds in time trials.
Kenny Heffner rocketed to the front of the PASS 305 Sprint Car feature followed by
Nick Sweigart, Seth Schnoke, Ken Duke Jr. and Logan Spahr.
At the halfway point Duke was in second and challenging Heffner as the pair negotiated traffic. By lap 15 Kruz Kepner was in third and two laps later passed Duke for second but was not able to track down Heffner who won by 1.09 seconds. Duke, Spahr and Zach Rhodes rounded out the top five.
Spahr, Dustin Young, Kepner and Schnoke won the PASS Sprint Car heats. Tyler Snook won the B-Main.
Jason Davis grabbed the early lead in the Roadrunner race followed by, Ty Huntsberger, Scott Dunham, Nate Romig and Keith Bissinger. Jake Jones started his move forward and raced several side by side laps with Romig before securing third.
With just one lap remaining Jones dove low in turn three and came off turn four with the lead and the win.
Davis, Huntsberger, Romig and Dunham trailed.
