April 4, 2015 SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Defending champion Mark Smith of Sunbury drove to a convincing victory in Saturday’s night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car season opener at Selinsgrove Speedway. Smith, who scored the prestigious “King of the 360s” victory at the East Bay Raceway in Florida earlier this year, was at the wheel of the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1 for his 11th career win in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track. Former 10-time champion Jeff Rine of Danville wired the field for his 92nd career feature win at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap super late model feature. Andrew Shoop of Mifflintown made a last-lap pass to score his second career pro stock win in the division’s 15-lap feature, while Brandon Shultz of Milton held off numerous challenges to record his first career win at the track in the 12-lap roadrunner race. Selinsgrove Speedway will swing back into action at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 11, with the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Mach 1 Chassis Spring Fling for 358 and 360 sprint cars paying $3,000 to win. Time Trials will be a part of the qualifying format for the 30-lap feature event. The super late models and pro stocks will also be on the racing card. Track gates will open at 4 p.m. Polesitter Cody Keller drove into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Keller was chased by second-place starter Jason Shultz for the first six laps of the race. The red flag stopped the race on lap six when Mallie Shuster slammed the outside guardrail in turn four and flipped over in his sprint car. Shuster escaped injury. On the restart, Shultz made a dive to the inside of Keller entering turn one and emerged the race’s new leader out of turn two. Meanwhile, a wheel-to-wheel race unfolded for the third position between fourth-place starter Robbie Stillwaggon and eighth-place starter Mark Smith, with Smith taking over the spot at the halfway point.
On the 17th circuit, a flat tire caused Shultz’s car to go into a wild spin in turn three, narrowly escaping serious damage with the outside wall. Keller inherited the lead again for the lap 18 restart in which Smith made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn three. Smith went on to cross the finish line 3.5 seconds ahead of Keller, Stillwaggon, Davie Franek, and Michael Walter.
Polesitter Jim Yoder and second-place starter Jeff Rine dueled for the lead at the start of the late model feature. Rine powered into the front spot and kept his 2J in front of the pack for the duration of the race even while navigating his way through slower traffic. Yoder kept Rine in his sights for most of the race only to get held up by the same traffic that Rine was working his way through at breakneck speeds. By the halfway point, Rine stretched his lead to a straightaway. On the 19th circuit, the caution flag waved for a three-car tangle involving Jeremy Ohl, Steve Campbell and Chad Hollenbeck in turns three and four. When the race resumed, Rine kept his distance from Yoder and the rest of the field as seventh-place starter Dave Zona advanced to third in the final laps. At the finish, Rine was victorious by 3.6 seconds over Yoder, Zona, Hayes Mattern, and Jason Smith.
Outside front row starter Nathan Long pulled into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Third-place starter Andrew Shoop held onto the second position for the first lap until polesitter Brad Mitch took over the spot. A torrid battle for the lead unfolded between the top three drivers until the first caution flag of the event unfurled on lap nine for Curtis Lawton. When the race resumed, so did the war of wheels for the lead between Long, Mitch, and Shoop. On several circuits, the leaders were racing full-tilt and almost three-wide around the oval. The caution flag slowed the field again on lap 14, setting up a chase to the checkered flag. Exiting the final turn, Shoop pulled off a thrilling victory over Long and Mitch by just .22 of a second. Adam Campbell and AJ Stroup completed the top five. In the night-cap roadrunner race, second-place starter Brandon Shultz, fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. and third-place starter Bob Bussey put on a precision driving show for all 12 laps of the race. While Shultz edged out the field to lead most of the laps, Fowler was scored as the frontrunner for laps three and five. Racing off turn four for the checkered flag, the leaders formed a three-wide formation as Shultz scored his first-ever win by the slimmest of margins over Bussey and Fowler. Jeremy Kline and Ed Capper completed the top five. FRANEK WINS SPRINT CAR THRILLER OVER STUTTS; RINE REPEATS IN SUPER LATE MODELS; LONG MAKES LAST-TURN PASS FOR PRO STOCK WIN; BUSSEY RETURNS TO ROADRUNNER WINNERS CIRCLE SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Davie “No Panic” Franek of Wantage, N.J., scored a thrilling victory over TJ Stutts of Liverpool in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway. Franek and Stutts see-sawed for the lead for the last 10 laps of the race with Franek taking his first checkered flag of the season in the Franek Auto Sales No. 28F. The $2,000 victory was Franek’s ninth career at the track. "I hope you fans enjoyed that!” said Franek in Victory Lane. “It was exciting from my seat!” Jeff Rine of Danville made it two wins in a row in the 25-lap super late model feature. The victory marked the 93rd of Rine’s career at the track. Nathan Long of Selinsgrove made a last-lap, final-turn pass by Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove for his first win of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Bob Bussey of Northumberland wired the field for his win in the 12-lap roadrunner race. Selinsgrove Speedway returns with another four division racing card of 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Track gates will open at 4 p.m. Second-place starter Davie Franek and polesitter Troy Betts dueled for the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Franek edged out Betts for the lead at the completion of the first lap, when the caution flag waved for a double spin involving Larry Kelleher and Brad Franks in turn four. On the restart, Franek maintained the lead with fifth-place starter TJ Stutts making a breathtaking move against the guardrail in turn four to drive by both Betts and fourth-place starter Jason Shultz for the second spot! On a lap five restart, 11th-place starter Mark Smith powered into the top five. At the halfway point, Stutts closed in on Franek in what would turn into a suspenseful race for the lead and win. Slider after slider through the turns, Franek would reclaim the lead from Stutts. While Stutts put his car in front of Franek’s at different times on the track he was never scored as the leader of the race at the start-finish line. Racing off turn four for the checkered flag, Franek held off Stutts’ last-ditch effort to steal the win. Franek was victorious by just .59 of a second over Stutts, Smith, Betts, and 10th-place starter Colby Womer. Jeff Rine started on the pole and edged out second-place starter Matt Cochran for the lead at the drop of the green flag in the late model feature. Rine blistered the speedway at the front of the pack while fourth-place starter Steve Campbell kept him in his sights. A caution flag for Hayes Mattern regroup the field on lap five. When the race resumed, Rine distanced himself from the rest of the field with Campbell trailing in second. A torrid battle for the third spot unfolded between fifth-place starter Kenny Trevitz, third-place starter Dave Zona, and Cochran. At the checkered flag, Rine posted a convincing seven-second margin of victory over Campbell, Cochran, Trevitz, and Jim Yoder. Derrick Garman pulled into the early lead from his pole starting position and led the first lap of the pro stock feature. On the second circuit, third-place starter Kyle Bachman made an inside pass in turn one to take command of the field. With five laps remaining, fifth-place starter Nathan Long stormed into the runner up position. Long quickly reeled in Bachman in a race for the lead. On the 11th lap, the caution flag unfurled when Tommy Slanker’s car fell off the pace. When the race resumed, Long pressured Bachman for the lead. On the final lap, exiting the final turn, Long pulled off the winning pass using the inside line. Long’s margin over victory was a mere .28 of a second over Bachman, Andrew Shoop, AJ Stroup, and Matt Hornberger. Polesitter Bob Bussey wired the field for his win the roadrunner race. During the first half of the race, fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. trailed Bussey until fifth-place starter Dustin Snook took over the runner-up position. Snook put in a last-lap bid to steal the lead and victory away from Bussey to no avail. At the finish, Bussey was victorious by .63 of a second over Snook. After the post-race inspection, however, Snook’s car was disqualified over a technicality. Fowler was credited with the second position, followed by Jeremy Kline, Brandon Shultz, and Butch Shaffer. The $2,000 victory at the wheel of the Mach 1 Chassis house car was Smith’s 13th career at the track in 358-360 sprint car competition. Dave Zona of Montrose held off a last-ditch effort by two-time winner Jeff Rine of Danville for his first win of the season in the 25-lap super late model feature. Andrew Shoop of Mifflintown won his second race of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while John Fowler Jr. of Montandon scored his first win of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race. Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 35th annual Jack Gunn Memorial for 360 sprint cars sanctioned by the United Racing Club at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2. The 30-lap tribute race will pay $3,500 to win and will include time trials as part of the qualifying format. The super late models and pro stocks will also be on the racing card. When the race restarted, original fourth-place starter Jason Shultz drove into the lead with seventh-place starter TJ Stutts in pursuit. With five laps completed, Shultz and Stutts led second-place starter Derek Locke, polesitter Ryan Kissinger, and sixth-place starter Larry Kelleher in the top five spots. At the lap eight marker, 10th-place starter Mark Smith dueled with Stutts for the runner-up position. Smith eventually secured second on the 12th lap. In the final laps of the race, Smith caught Shultz in traffic and made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn one on the 20th circuit. Smith stretched his lead as Stutts began to pressure Shultz for the runner-up position. At the checkered flag, Smith was victorious by a mere second over Stutts, Shultz, 15th-place starter Chuck Hebing, and 12th-place starter Davie Franek. Polesitter Chad Hollenbeck powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Hollenbeck was trailed by second-place starter Meade Hahn for the first two laps before third-place starter Dave Zona took over the runner-up position. Hollenbeck continued to lead the race until the sixth lap when Zona made the winning pass on the backstretch. At the halfway point, Zona was setting the pace in front of sixth-place starter Jim Yoder, ninth-place starter Matt Cochran, 12th-place starter Jeff Rine, and 14th-place starter Kyle Harder. With nine laps to race, Rine advanced to second and began to reel in Zona in traffic. Dylan Yoder, who started 13th, horsepowered his way into the third spot with five laps remaining. On the final circuit, Zona took the high line around lapped traffic and edged out Rine by just .28 of a second for the victory. D. Yoder, Hardy, and Cochran completed the top five. Polesitter Matt Hornberger led the first lap of the pro stock feature until fourth-place starter Andrew Shoop made the winning pass in turn two on the second circuit. On the sixth circuit, third-place starter AJ Stroup advanced to second and set his sights on the leader. Despite several caution flags, Shoop kept his racer out in front of the pack and posted a .67 of a second margin of victory over Stroup, Nathan Long, Matt Hornberger, and Kyle Bachman. Front row starter Ricky Buss escaped injury when his roadrunner went into a series of barrel rolls on the backstretch at the start of the main event. When the race resumed, third-place starter John Fowler Jr. pulled into the lead and held off fifth-place starter and last week’s winner Bob Bussey by .24 of a second for the victory. SMITH STORMS TO JACK GUNN SPRINT CAR MEMORIAL WIN; CAMPBELL STREAKS TO FIRST LATE MODEL VICTORY OF SEASON; BACHMAN SCORES FIRST PRO STOCK VICTORY IN THRILLER SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Polesitter Mark Smith of Sunbury made up lost ground late in the race to score an exciting victory in Saturday night’s 30-lap United Racing Club-sanctioned 35th Annual Jack Gunn Memorial for 360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway. For Smith, the $3,500 win was his third at the track and fourth overall this season in 360 sprint car competition at the wheel of the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1. Aaron Ott of East Berlin was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier over the 32-car field with a lap time of 17.308. Steve Campbell of Danville won his first race of the season in record-setting fashion in the 25-lap super late model feature. Campbell’s 46th career late model win at the speedway was a new track record for the distance in a time of 9:02.20. Kyle Bachman and Nathan Long of Selinsgrove see-sawed for the lead for several laps before Bachman came away with his first win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature. Selinsgrove Speedway will hold the Max Media Pack The Track Night this Saturday, May 9, featuring $5 general admission for adults and students for a four division racing show of 360 sprints, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. Max Media will be hosting a tailgating party 4-6 p.m. at the main gate with music, games and prizes prior to the start of the racing program. Second-place starter Robbie Stillwaggon drove into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature and was chased by third-place starter Josh Weller. Polesitter Mark Smith lost some ground on the start but kept the leaders in his sights. The caution flag unfurled on lap four when Jason Shultz’s car developed a flat tire. On the restart, Stillwaggon continued to set the pace while Smith cleared Weller’s car for the second position. The race was stopped on lap eight for a four-car melee at the end of the backstretch in which Shultz’s car flipped over. Cody Keller, Ryan Kissinger, and Tyler Ross were also involved in the incident. All drivers escaped injury. By the midway point of the race, Stillwaggon and Smith were setting a blistering pace through traffic with Weller, eighth-place starter Davie Franek, and fourth-place starter Aaron Ott in close pursuit. With five laps to race, Stillwaggon and Smith diced their way through traffic. Entering turn one on the 27th circuit, Smith made the winning pass using the high line. Once in front of the pack, Smith cruised to a 1.4 second margin of victory over Stillwaggon, Ott, 22nd-place starter TJ Stutts, and Franek. Outside front row starter Kenny Trevitz outdueled polesitter Tony Adams for the early lead in the super late model main event following three attempts to get the race started. On the second circuit, fourth-place starter Steve Campbell horsepowered his way into the second spot and started to reel in Trevitz. Campbell made the winning pass by Trevitz using the inside lane coming off turn four on the fifth lap. By lap 10, however, sixth-place starter Matt Cochran advanced to second and started to show a lot of speed. Late in the race, Cochran closed in on Campbell at a brisk pace with last week’s winner and eighth-place starter Dave Zona racing third. At the checkered flag, Campbell was victorious by just .96 of a second over Cochran, Zona, Trevitz, and fifth-place starter Jim Yoder. Following the two initial caution flags, the race went non-stop for 25 laps in a record time of 9:02.203. In the pro stock feature, third-place starter Kyle Bachman darted into the lead and was chased by polesitter Dave Brouse Jr. for the first lap until fifth-place starter Nathan Long drove into the runner-up position. Long quickly caught Bachman and made a pass for the lead on lap five when Bachman’s car drifted high in turns one and two. Long set the pace with Bachman in striking distance until Long’s car developed a mechanical issue and rolled to a stop in turn four. Bachman inherited the lead at this point and had to fend off two-time winner and sixth-place starter Andrew Shoop as the two see-sawed for the lead lap after lap. Bachman narrowly held off Shoop for the win by a mere .20 of a second as the two drivers raced side-by-side coming off turn four for the checked flag. AJ Stroup, Derrick Garman, and Curtis Lawton rounded out the top five. TOMECEK, CAMPBELL, MITCH & FOWLER TAKE WINS IN FRONT OF PACKED HOUSE SATURAY NIGHT! SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Eric Tomecek of Abbottstown thrilled the huge crowd that was on hand Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway for the Max Media Pack The Track Night with a convincing victory in the 25-lap 360 sprint car feature. The $2,000 win in the Central Builders Supply Company No. 1W was Tomecek’s first since May 4, 2013, at the track. He became the third different winner in five races in 360 sprint car competition. Steve Campbell of Danville made it two wins in a row in the 25-lap super late model feature. The victory was the 47th of Campbell’s career at the speedway. Defending champion Brad Mitch of McClure won his first race of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while John Fowler Jr. of Montandon became the first repeat roadrunner winner with a victory in the division’s 12-lap feature. Selinsgrove Speedway will be back in action at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 17, with a $3,000-to-win 360 sprint car race sanctioned by the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) plus late models and pro stocks. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. Fourth-place starter Cody Keller shot into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature and was chased by polesitter Mallie Shuster and third-place starter Michael Walter. On the third circuit, Walter moved into the second spot while eighth-place starter Mark Smith drove into third. On lap four, the caution flag unfurled when Derek Steward crashed in turn one. For the lap five restart, Keller held off Smith, Walter, and sixth-place starter Colby Womer. The race was slowed again on lap seven when Jason Shultz slammed the second turn wall. Smith drove around the outside of Keller for the lead in turn two on the lap eight restart. Another caution for a flat tire on TJ Stutts’ car regrouped the field. Racing back into turn one, Keller put in a bid to reclaim the lead, only to make contact with Smith’s car, which ended the three-time winner’s night. Keller was the pacesetter on the restart and was moving at a fast clip at the front of the pack until 11th-place starter Eric Tomecek became a threat. Tomecek found lightning speed late in the race and drove by Keller in the second turn on the 16th circuit. From that point on, Tomecek blistered the speedway and went on to post a convincing 8.5-second margin of victory over Womer, fifth-place starter Derek Locke, Stutts, and Shuster. Keller dropped out of the race with mechanical issues with two laps remaining. Second-place starter Tony Adams pulled into the lead at the start of the super late model feature. Adams was trailed by polesitter Danny Snyder for the first lap until fifth-place starter Jim Yoder took command of the field. Adams, Yoder, and fourth-place starter Chad Hollenbeck streaked away from the field early in the race. On the seventh circuit, Yoder drove by Adams using the inside lane in turn three for the lead. A lap later, seventh-place starter Matt Cochran advanced to second. With 10 laps to race, eighth-place starter Steve Campbell surged his way to the front of the pack, passing Yoder on the 17th lap on the backstretch. Campbell then opened up a lead late in the race and posted a five-second margin of victory over Yoder, Cochran, 15th-place starter Jeff Rine, and ninth-place starter Kenny Trevitz. Polesitter Brad Mitch put his pro stock in front of the field at the drop of the green flag in the main event. A multi-car incident in turn three regrouped the field for a complete restart. When the race resumed, Mitch again darted into the lead. For most of the race, second-place starter Dave Brouse Jr. kept Mitch in his sights, with sixth-place starter Adam Campbell racing in the third position. With two laps remaining, Campbell showed a lot of speed, passing Brouse for second and closing in on Mitch for the lead. At the checkered flag, Mitch was victorious by one second over Campbell, Brouse, Nathan Long, and Matt Hornberger. Curtis Lawton, who crossed the line in the third position, was disqualified after failing a post-race inspection. Fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. powered into the lead at the start of the roadrunner feature and wired the field for his second win of the season. Fowler was closely chased by fifth-place starter Bob Bussy, who did a 360-degree spin in turn two early in the race and kept racing. At the finish, Fowler was victorious by just .55 of a second over Bussey, Butch Shaffer, Ricky Buss, and Tom Underwood. HODNETT WIRES FIELD FOR $5,000 SPRINT CAR TILLEY CLASSIC VICTORY, GEESEY & THOMPSON SCORE SPORTSMAN & 305 SPRINT WINS SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Greg Hodnett of Spring Grove scored a flag-to-flag victory in Sunday night’s 30-lap Ray Tilley Classic for 410 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway by half of a second over 2013 race winner Brent Marks of Myerstown. The $5,000 victory was Hodnett’s sixth win in central Pennsylvania and seventh overall this season driving the Heffner Enterprises/Lelands.com No. 27. It marked Hodnett’s 16th career victory at the speedway. Members of Ray Tilley’s family were on hand to present Hodnett with a custom crystal cup trophy to commemorate the win in the tribute race, which was run to honor the memory of the late Hall of Famer who clinched four sprint car championships and recorded 69 victories at the track. Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg was the Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 16.907. Scott Geesey of Dillsburg won his first super sportsman race at Selinsgrove Speedway in the division’s 20-lap feature, while Reese Thompson of Petersburg drove to his first-ever victory at the track in the 20-lap 305 sprint car feature. Selinsgrove Speedway is back in action this Saturday, May 30, with a four division show of 360 sprint cars, super late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. The pro stocks will compete in the annual $1,000-to-win Pro Stock 20 championship race. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. At the start of the Tilley Classic, Greg Hodnett stormed into the lead from his outside front row starting position and led polesitter Aaron Ott for most of the event. By lap five, Hodnett opened a comfortable lead over Ott, sixth-place starter Brock Zearfoss, 10th-place starter Brent Marks, and fourth-place starter Lucas Wolfe. At the halfway point, Hodnett had stretched his lead to a straightaway over Ott. On the same lap, 14th-place starter Chase Dietz tagged the third turn wall and rolled to a stop in turn four, bringing out the race’s first caution flag. When the race resumed, Hodnett completed lap 16 before the caution flag unfurled again when Zearfoss hit the second turn wall after his car reportedly had a rear axle break. On the restart, Marks moved into the second position as fifth-place starter TJ Stutts began to show a lot of speed and advanced to third. The final caution flag waved on lap 22 for debris, setting up an eight-lap chase to the checkered flag. In the closing laps, Marks reeled in Hodnett to put in a bid for the lead but came up just half of a second short at the checkered flag. Hodnett was victorious over Marks, Stutts, Wolfe, and Ott. In the super sportsman feature, second-place starter Chad Trout led the field to the green flag with third-place starter Paul Miller in pursuit. The race was slowed on lap seven when Kenny Edkin’s car rolled to a stop on the backstretch. On the lap eight restart, Trout continued to set the pace with Miller and seventh-place starter Scott Geesey in close pursuit. On another restart, Geesey advanced to the second spot and began to pressure Trout for the lead. Racing down the backstretch, Miller’s car went up in smoke on the 14th lap and brought out the race’s final caution flag. On the lap 15 restart, Geesey made the winning pass using a slider through the first and second turns. Geesey went on to take the checkered flag by two seconds over Trout, Scott Dellinger, Kevin Nouse, and Doug Dodson. Reed Thompson started on the pole in the 305 sprint car feature and was chased by third-place starter Jordan Thomas for all 20 laps. Lap after lap, Thomas raced in Thompson’s shadow but never got the opportunity to make a pass for the lead. At the checkered flag, Thompson was victorious by just .92 of a second over Thomas, Bill Jones, Stephanie Stevens, and Erin Statler. SMITH HOLDS OFF STUTTS FOR WIN IN 360 SPRINT CAR THRILLER; HOLLENBECK MAKES LAST-TURN PASS FOR FIRST CAREER LATE MODEL WIN; LONG EDGES OUT SHOOP FOR SECOND PRO STOCK WIN SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Wherever Mark Smith travels to race this season – Florida, Pennsylvania, even Canada – the Sunbury driver seems to have no problem finding Victory Lane. For the fourth time this season at Selinsgrove Speedway, Smith scored a thrilling victory over TJ Stutts of Liverpool by just .64 of a second in Saturday’s 25-lap United Racing Club 360 sprint car feature. Driving the Mach 1 Chassis house car, Smith collected $2,000 for his seventh overall victory this year and 14th career in 358-360 sprint car racing at the speedway. Chad Hollenbeck of Kingsley pulled off a last-lap, last-turn pass by Gene Knaub of York for his first career super late model win at Selinsgrove Speedway in the division’s 25-lap main event, while Nathan Long of Selinsgrove held off Andrew Shoop of Mifflintown for his second win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock race. Selinsgrove Speedway will hold the Joe Whitcomb Memorial for 360 sprint cars at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The 30-lap tribute race will pay $2,571 to win and will be sanctioned by the Patriot Sprint Tour. Joining the sprint cars on the racing card will be the super late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. Second-place starter Jason Shultz drove into a convincing early lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Shultz was chased by polesitter Robbie Stillwaggon while fifth-place starter Mark Smith dueled with third-place starter Ryan Kissinger. On lap seven, Smith got by Stillwaggon for second and started to navigate his way through traffic to catch Shultz. The race was stopped on lap 13 when Mallie Shuster’s car flipped out over the second turn guardrail. Shuster escaped injury. When the race resumed, Shultz led Smith and ninth-place starter TJ Stutts back to the green flag. Exiting turn two, Smith made the winning pass using the inside lane. Two laps later, Stutts advanced to second and closed in on Smith in the final laps. On the final lap, Stutts almost got alongside of Smith to challenge for the lead and win. At the checkered flag, Smith was victorious by .64 of a second over Stutts, Shultz, Stillwaggon, and Kissinger. Outside front row starter Gene Knaub powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature and was chased by polesitter Hayes Mattern and third-place starter Tony Adams. Knaub stretched his lead to nearly a straightaway during the first half of the race as fifth-place starter Chad Hollenbeck started making his way through the pack. A hard battle unfolded for the second spot between Mattern and Hayes. However, by lap seven, Hollenbeck advanced to second and set his sites on Knaub while eighth-place starter Jim Yoder raced into the third position. In the final laps, Hollenbeck reeled in Knaub and was in striking distance on the final circuit. Racing off turn four for the checkered flag, Hollenbeck made a thrilling inside pass for the lead and scored his first win by only .14 of a second over Knaub, Yoder, Dave Zona, and Coleby Frye. In the pro stock feature, third-place starter Nate Stroup led the first three laps until 11th-place starter Nathan Long stormed into the lead with an inside pass in turn three. At the halfway point, 12th-place starter Andrew Shoop advanced to second and began to pressure Long for the lead. At one point, Shoop pulled alongside of Long in a bid for the lead to no avail. At the checkered flag, Long was victorious by just .47 of a second over Shoop, Adam Campbell, Dave Brouse Jr., and Jim Payne. STUTTS BECOMES FOUR-TIME WINNER OF WHITCOMB MEMORIAL; RINE RETURNS IN WINNING FORM IN LATE MODELS; MITCH SCORES CONVINCING PRO STOCK VICTORY; BISSINGER’S FIRST NIGHT BACK NETS ROADRUNNER WIN SELINSGROVE, Pa. – TJ Stutts of Liverpool and Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., engaged in another thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle that was reminiscent of a race Franek won a few weeks ago, only this time it was Stutts who rolled into Victory Lane for the first time this season Saturday night in the 30-lap Joe Whitcomb Memorial for 360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway. The $2,571 win, which made him the first four-time winner of the Whitcomb Memorial, was Stutts’ 21st career in 358-360 sprint car racing at the track. Mark Smith of Sunbury was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 17.307 (110.16 average mph). Jeff Rine of Danville returned to Selinsgrove and scored his third win of the season and 94th career at the track in the 25-lap late model main event. Brad Mitch of McClure checked out from the field to score his second 15-lap pro stock main of the year, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville won his first race of the year in his first time out this season in the 12-lap roadrunner event. Stutts started on the pole and drove into the lead in the sprint car feature but his drive to Victory Lane was anything but easy. Early in the race, second-place starter Derek Locke raced in Stutts’s shadow while fourth-place starter Davie Franek made it a close three-car battle at the front of the pack. The caution flag unfurled on lap two when Mark Smith’s car stopped on the track with wheel trouble. Smith was able to rejoin the race and made a charge back through the pack during the remaining 28 laps. The race was stopped on lap 10 when Jared Zimbardi flipped his sprint car in turn four. Zimbardi escaped injury. When the race resumed, an intense see-saw battle for the lead unfolded between Stutts and Franek. The war on wheels was held up again when Michael Walter and John Braim were involved in a double flip in turn two. Both drivers were not injured. During the second half of the race, Stutts and Franek raced side-by-side while Smith eventually made his way into the third position. At the checkered flag Stutts took the victory by 1.9 seconds over Franek, Smith, Locke, and Ryan Kissinger. Outside front row starter Hayes Mattern dueled with polesitter Danny Snyder for the early lead in the super late model feature. Mattern pulled into the front spot and stretched his lead during the first half of the race over fourth-place starter Donnie Schick. At the halfway point, ninth-place starter Jeff Rine stormed into the runner up position and set his sights on Mattern. On the 14th circuit, Rine caught Mattern and made the winning pass using the inside lane off turn four. On lap 19, Schick withdrew from the race as seventh-place starter Steve Campbell began to show a lot of speed. At the finish, Rine was victorious by 5.2 seconds over Mattern, Campbell, eighth-place starter Jim Yoder, and 10th-place starter Chad Hollenbeck. Polesitter Jake Buck powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was chased by fifth-place starter Brad Mitch for the first lap until Mitch made the winning pass in turn two. Once in front of the pack, Mitch checked out from the field while Buck contended with seventh-place starter Adam Campbell for the runner up position. At the finish, Mitch was victorious by a full five seconds over Buck, Campbell, third-place starter Derrick Garman, and 10th-place starter Nathan Long. Polesitter Dustin Snook and fourth-place starter Bob Bussey were dueling at the front of the pack when contact between the drivers allowed ninth-place starter Keith Bissinger to storm into the lead on the fifth circuit. Bissinger kept his trademark green “tank” No. 11 at the front of the pack for the rest of the distance and scored the win by 1.8 seconds over John Fowler Jr., Snook, Jeff Ceballo, and Bussey. SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY – Stevie Smith of Broken Arrow, Okla., ended the 25th Anniversary Jake’s Wayback Burgers/Trone Outdoor PA Speedweek series the way he started it—in Victory Lane!—with a convincing win in Sunday night’s Jan Opperman/Dick Bogar Memorial for 410 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $5,000 win marked Smith’s seventh career at Selinsgrove driving Fred Rahmer’s Miller Bros. Chevrolet No. 51-S. Smith’s performance Sunday night also earned him the Fast Tees Fast Time Award (16.562) and his first career PA Speedweek title that paid $10,000 to the champion for the first time. He became the first driver to win five races in a single series.
Chad Criswell of Martinsburg, W.Va., held of Kevin Knouse of Mechanicsburg for his first career win at Selinsgrove Speedway in the 20-lap super sportsman feature, while Tyler Reeser of Orwigsburg also scored his first win at the track in the 20-lap 305 sprint car feature.
The 410 sprint cars return to Selinsgrove Speedway Saturday, Sept. 19, for the Jim Nace Memorial/33rd Annual National Open.
Second-place starter Danny Dietrich powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Racing off turn four to complete the first lap, fourth-place starter Stevie Smith used the inside lane to secure the front spot.
By the fifth circuit, Smith began to encounter slower traffic as Dietrich and sixth-place starter Aaron Ott dueled for the runner-up position. By lap nine, an intense three-car battle unfolded at the front of the pack between Smith, Dietrich and Ott.
The race’s first caution flag unfolded on lap 11 when Mallie Shuster spun his sprint car in turn four. On the lap 12 restart, third-place starter Greg Hodnett got by polesitter Lucas Wolfe for the fourth spot. Ott then made a thrilling pass in turn two to get by Dietrich for second. A lap later, Hodnett advanced to third.
On the 17th circuit, Hodnett drove by Ott for second and set his sights on Smith. Despite several late-race cautions, Smith was able to hold the field at bay. In the final laps, however, Hodnett began to reel in Smith in a last-ditch effort to pull off a pass for the win. At the checkered flag, Smith was victorious by just .57 of a victory over Hodnett, Ott, Dietrich, and fifth-place starter Brent Marks.
In the super sportsman feature, polesitter Danny Walsh led the first two laps until third-place starter Chad Criswell made the winning pass on the frontstretch. On a lap four restart, 12th-place starter Kevin Nouse passed several cars using the outside lane around turns one and two to take over the fourth spot.
On a lap seven restart, Nouse drove by fourth-place starter Chad Trout for the runner-up spot and began to close in on Criswell. At the halfway point, Nouse was in striking distance as he and Criswell raced through traffic.
In the final laps, Criswell held off Nouse by .95 of a second for his third victory of the season at three different tracks. Mike Enders, Frankie Herr, and Trout completed the top five.
Second-place starter Tyler Reese pulled into the lead at the start of the 305 sprint car feature and wired the field for his first-ever win at the track. Reese checked out from the field early in the race and opened up more than a straightaway lead over polesitter Derrick Bowersox. Late in the race, current points leader and ninth-place starter Zach Newlin advanced to the second position.
At the checkered flag, Reese posted a convincing nine-second margin of victory over Newlin, Bowersox, James Pryde, and Drew Ritchey.

STANDING ROOM ONLY CROWD ON HAND FOR TOMECEK, CAMPBELL, STROUP & SNOOK VICTORIES ON DRIVER & FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT! SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A huge crowd was on hand Saturday evening at Selinsgrove Speedway to watch an exciting four division racing program on Driver & Fan Appreciation Night sponsored by Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center. Eric Tomecek of Abottstown drove to his second win of the season in the 25-lap 360 sprint car feature at the wheel of the Central Builders Supply Co. No. 1-W. The $2,500 victory was Tomecek’s third career at the track. Steve Campbell of Danville powered to his third win of the year in the $2,500-to-win, 25-lap super late model main event. The win marked the 48th of Campbell’s career at the track in super late model competition. AJ Stroup of Evandale wired the field for his first career win in the A&A Auto Stores 14th Annual Pro Stock 20. Stroup collected $1,000 for his 17th overall career victory in the division’s biggest race of the year. Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove was the night’s pro stock fast qualifier with a lap time of 24.323. Dustin Snook of McClure closed out the night with his second career win in the 12-lap roadrunner race. Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 2nd Annual Kramer Cup for 360 sprint cars sanctioned by the United Racing Club at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. The 25-lap tribute race to honor the memory of the late sprint car champion will pay $2,573 to win and $200 to start. Joining the sprint cars on the racing program will be the super late models and pro stocks. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. Selinsgrove Ford will hold a race car display on the dealership lot Saturday afternoon prior to the Market Street Race Car Parade through downtown Selinsgrove at 4 p.m. At the start of the sprint car feature, polesitter Kevin Albert brought out the red flag when his car turned over in turn three. On the restart, original third-place starter Jim Shuster led the first lap of the race. On the second circuit, fifth-place starter Eric Tomecek took command of the field with an outside pass in turn two and never looked back. Fourth-place starter Eric Parker held down the runner-up position while sixth-place starter Ryan Kissinger worked his way into the third spot. On lap nine, Kissinger drove by Parker for the second position and set his sights on Tomecek. With 10 laps remaining, 10th-place starer Mark Smith advanced to third. Down to seven laps to race, Kissinger started to reel in Tomecek at the front of the pack. His efforts were aided by a caution flag on lap 19 when Brian Nornhold stopped his car on the track. On the ensuing restart, Tomecek continued to set a torrid pace as Smith began to challenge Kissinger for the runner-up position. On the final lap, Smith pulled a slider on Kissinger in turn four to take the second position while Tomecek streaked under the checkered flag to take the win by 2.7 seconds. Kissinger settled for third, while TJ Stutts and Colby Womer rounded out the top five. Polesitter Danny Snyder pulled into the early lead at the start of the late model feature. Snyder was chased by fourth-place starter Donnie Schick. On a lap two restart, fifth-place starter Tony Adams moved into third while 10th-place starter Steve Campbell advanced to fourth. Two laps later Adams drove by Schick for the second spot. On the eighth circuit, Campbell made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn four. Jeff Rine, who started 12th, followed Campbell into the runner-up position as Adams raced third. In the final laps of the race, Campbell began to stretch his lead over Rine and 11th-place starter Matt Cochran, who took over third on a lap 19 restart. At the finish, Campbell was victorious by 2.3 seconds over Rine, Cochran, Adams, and second-place starter Hayes Mattern. In the Pro Stock 20, polesitter AJ Stroup drove into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Stroup was closely chased by second-place starter Nathan Long, fifth-place starter Brad Mitch, and fourth-place starter Andrew Shoop. By lap six, the top four runners broke away from the field in a close bumper-to-bumper duel for the race lead. Seventh-place starter Dave Brouse Jr. made it a five-car breakaway by the midway point of the race. On lap 11, however, Brouse was caught up in a tangle with Adam Campbell. When the race resumed, Stroup set the pace in front of Long, Mitch, and Shoop. On the 15th circuit, Long briefly pulled in front of Stroup in turn three only to lose the lead when his car drifted high racing out of turn four. Then, with two laps remaining, Shoop’s chances of a victory went away after getting caught up in a multi-car melee. Back under the green flag, Long and Mitch raced for the second position, which allowed Stroup to stretch his lead by the slimmest of margins. On the final lap, contact caused Long to brush the frontstretch guardrail and go into a wild spin. Stroup crossed the finish line and posted a one-second margin of victory over Mitch, Jake Buck, Brouse, and Brandon Moser. Long nursed his car across the finish line in the sixth position. In the roadrunner feature, Snook started in the third position and led flag to flag for the victory. He held off fifth-place starter Bob Bussey for most of the race until sixth-place starter John Fowler Jr. made a late-race charge into the second spot to put in a bid for the lead and win. At the checkered flag, Snook was victorious by just .47 of a second over Fowler, Bussey, Keith Bissinger, and Brandon Shultz. STILLWAGGON WINS KRAMER CUP FOR 360 SPRINT CARS; FRYE & MITCH SCORE STOCK CAR WINS SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Robbie Stillwaggon of Burlington, N.J. powered to his first win of the season in the second annual Selinsgrove Ford Kramer Cup for 360 sprint cars Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. The $2,573 victory, at the wheel of the Quality Auto Body No. 89, marked Stillwaggon’s second career at the track in the United Racing Club sanctioned event that was a tribute to the late Hall of Fame sprint car driver and former Selinsgrove champion Kramer Williamson. A stray shower at 7 p.m. caused a nearly three-hour delay to the start of Saturday night’s racing program which was spun off at a fast pace once the first green flag waved about 10 p.m. with a big crowd and strong field of race cars in attendance. Coleby Frye of Dover scored his first win of the season at Selinsgrove by just half of a second over Dave Zona of Montrose in the 25-lap super late model feature. Brad Mitch of McClure drove to his third win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature. Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division racing show featuring the 360 sprint cars, super late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners on Reinhart Food Service Night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will also have a classic race car display set up behind the covered grandstand prior to the start of Saturday’s show. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. With URC sprint regulars Curt Michael and Robbie Stillwaggon sharing the front row for the start of the Kramer Cup, Stillwaggon pulled into the early lead and quickly showed he had a capable race car. With five laps down, Stillwaggon set a torrid pace on the lightning-quick speedway over Michael, fourth-place starter TJ Stutts, sixth-place starter Mark Smith, and third-place starter Derek Locke. Stutts stormed into the runner up position a lap later and completed a pass for the lead only to have it called back when the caution flag unfurled on lap seven. When the race resumed, Stillwaggon kept the field at bay as eighth-place starter Aaron Ott began to show a lot of speed. The red flag waved on lap 13 when Jason Clauss’ car had a rear wheel break loose, causing the car to go into a wild spin and flip over on the frontstretch. Clauss escaped injury. An intense five-car battle unfolded at the front of the track between Stillwaggon, Stutts, Smith, Ott, and fifth-place starter Davie Franek when the race resumed. The caution flag slowed the field again on lap 17 when Colby Womer’s car rolled to a stop in turn four. When the green flag waved, Smith horsepowered his way into the runner up position and attempted to reel in Stillwaggon. At the checkered flag, Stillwaggon was victorious by 2.8 seconds over Smith, Stutts, Ott, and Franek. Polesitter Danny Snyder led the first three laps of the super late model feature until sixth-place starter Coleby Frye stormed into the lead with an inside pass in turn four. Early in the race, Frye set the pace in front of fifth-place starter Tony Adams, eighth-place starter Dave Zona, and 10th-place starter Jeff Rine in the lead pack. Zona advanced to second on the eighth circuit and by the halfway point, Rine moved into the third spot with 15th-place starter Dylan Yoder racing in fourth. Steve Campbell, who started 12th, worked his way into the top five, only to develop a flat tire on the 15th circuit. With four laps to go, Frye drifted high in turn four, almost allowing Zona to drive underneath him for the lead to no avail. On the final lap, Frye held off Zona by just .48 of a second for the win. Rine, Yoder, and Kenny Trevitz completed the top five. Polesitter Matt Wilson powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was chased by fourth-place starter Brandon Moser. On the second circuit, eighth-place starter Brad Mitch drove into the runner-up position and set his sights on the leader. Mitch made the winning pass on the fifth lap and never looked back. During the second half of the race, fifth-place starter Dave Brouse Jr. and 15th-place starter Nathan long dueled for the runner up position. At the checkered flag, Mitch’s margin of victory was 3.7 seconds over Brouse. Long crossed the line in third but was disqualified when his car failed a post-race technical inspection. Wilson was awarded third, followed by Andrew Shoop and Matt Hornberger in the top five. Stutts, at the wheel of the Wise Motorsports No. 23, earned $2,000 for his 22nd career win at the track in 358-360 sprint car competition. Gene Knaub of Dover powered to his first career win in super late model racing at Selinsgrove in the division’s 25-lap feature. Knaub is a former limited late model winner at the track. Brad Mitch of McClure won his fourth race of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Dustin Snook also of McClure scored his second 12-lap roadrunner win in a row. Selinsgrove Speedway will present the rescheduled Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 360 sprint cars plus super late models at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. The Open will pay $10,000 to win out of a $35,000 purse for 360 sprint cars. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. On the initial start of the sprint car feature, two-time winner Eric Tomacek flipped over in his racer in turn four. Tomacek escaped injury. For the double-file restart, polesitter John Braim powered into the early lead. Braim was chased by sixth-place starter Cody Keller for the first two laps before Keller took the lead with an inside pass in turn one. At the same time, eighth-place starter Ryan Kissinger advanced to second while 10th-place starter Derek Locke raced in third. At the halfway point, 12th-place starter TJ Stutts dueled with Locke for the third position. While pacing under caution on lap 19, Keller’s car developed a flat tire, forcing him to give up the lead. Kissinger inherited the front spot and led for a single lap until his car developed mechanical problems and stopped on the frontstretch. Stutts took over the lead at Kissinger’s expense and drove to a 2.7 second margin of victory over Locke, ninth-place starter Jason Shultz, fifth-place starter Eric Parker, and 14th-place starter Nate Snyder. Second-place starter Hayes Mattern pulled into the early lead in the super late model main event with polesitter Dave Brouse Sr. in pursuit. Fourth-place starter Jason Smith took over second on the second circuit as seventh-place starter Gene Knaub horsepowered his way into the third position. On lap seven, Knaub drove into the runner-up position as ninth-place starter Matt Cochran moved into third. For several laps, Mattern and Knaub dueled for the lead. On the 11th lap, Knaub secured the front spot racing out of turn four. The next lap Cochran took over second and closed in on Knaub. On a lap 20 restart, Cochran pulled alongside of Knaub and challenged for the lead. Knaub fought back and eventually opened up a 2.3 second margin to score the win over Cochran, 13th-place starter Chris Casner, 10th-place starter Dave Zona, and 12th-place starter Jeff Rine. Polesitter Matt Wilson held off the challenges of third-place starter Dave Brouse Jr. for the first five laps of the pro stock feature. On the sixth circuit, Brouse took command of the field and had to contend with eighth-place starter Brad Mitch. Late in the race, fifth-place starter Kyle Bachman made it a close three-car battle at the front of the pack. Racing into turn one on the 13th circuit, Brouse struck a slower car and ended his chances of a victory. Mitch took over the lead and held off Bachman by just .78 of a second for the win. Wilson, AJ Stroup, and Andrew Shoop completed the top five. Second-place starter Dustin Snook wired the field for his second win of the season in the roadrunner main event. Snook was chased by third-place starter Bob Bussey for the entire distance. At the checkered flag, Snook was victorious by 5.25 seconds over Bussey, John Fowler Jr., Butch Shaffer, and Brandon Shultz. Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Bernheisel Race Components Superior Products Night for super late models plus 360 sprint cars, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. TJ Stutts started on the pole and pulled into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the sprint car main event. Stutts was trailed by second-place starter Steve Collins in the early laps of the race. On the seventh lap, 10th-place starter Doug Esh began to show a lot of speed and stormed into the runner-up position. Esh quickly reeled in Stutts and a thrilling wheel-to-wheel duel unfolded for the lead with both drivers see-sawing for the lead through the turns. The first caution flag unfurled on lap 13 for an incident involving Derek Locke and Eric Tomecek in turn three. When the race resumed, the pair of 23 sprint cars driven by Stutts and Esh resumed an intense war on wheels. On the 15th circuit, however, Esh’s car blew an engine and rolled to a stop on the frontstretch. Sixth-place starter Davie Franek inherited the second position and put in a bid for the lead on the restart to no avail. Stutts continued to set a torrid pace around the top of the race track while Franek, fourth-place starter Colby Womer, and fifth-place starter Kevin Nouse kept pace. The race was stopped on lap 18 when Josh Weller’s car hit the fourth turn guardrail and flipped several times onto the frontstretch. Weller escaped injury. On the lap 19 restart, Nouse advanced to third and displayed a lot of momentum in the second half of the race. Womer’s strong run came to end on lap 26 when his car rolled to a stop in turn two with mechanical problems. On the final restart, Stutts stretched his lead and scored a 1.8-second margin of victory over Franek, Nouse, 12th-place starter Ryan Kissinger, and 23rd-place starter Mark Smith, who qualified Jim Shuster’s No. C-4 through the B-main when his No. 1 blew an engine in his heat race. Polesitter Danny Snyder powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Snyder was chased by second-place starter Dave Brouse Sr. for the first six laps until seventh-place starter Coleby Frye started his drive to the front of the pack. At the halfway point, Frye made the winning pass by Snyder using the outside lane off turn four. A lap later, 10th-place starter Jeff Rine made the same move at the same spot on the race track to take over the runner-up position. For the rest of the way, Frye held Rine at bay and posted a 1.27 second margin of victory. Eight-place starter Matt Cochran, 11th-place starter Steve Campbell, and 14th-place starter Kenny Trevitz rounded out the top five. Brad Mitch of McClure raced to his fifth win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Curtis Lawton of Danville drove to his first career win in the 12-lap roadrunner race. The late models will utilize the World of Outlaws Late Model Series format as part of a “tune up” for the 17th Annual Late Model National Open slated for Sunday, Sept. 6. Track officials announced the World of Outlaws Late Model Series National Open will be a 40-lap event paying $8,000 to win. Ticket prices for this year’s race have been reduced to $25 for adults and just $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased on race day only. The limited late models will be on the Sept. 6 racing card. Second-place starter Steve Collins darted into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the sprint car feature only to spin into the second turn guardrail. Original fourth-place starter Brian Nornhold restarted the race in second and drove into the lead when the race resumed. Nornhold was trailed by polesitter John Braim and third-place starter Kevin Albert for the first five laps. On the sixth lap, 12th-place starter Mark Smith horsepowered his way into the runner-up position and started to reel in Nornhold. On the 12th circuit, Smith pulled a slider in turn four with some contact sending Nornhold into a spin. When the race resumed, Smith had eighth-place starter TJ Stutts on his tail and the two leading feature winners this season squared off in a thrilling duel for the lead as the two see-sawed for the front spot. Once Stutts secured the lead about three laps into the duel, he stretched his lead and drove to a 3.8-second victory over Smith, Jason Schultz, Braim, and Larry Kelleher. Polesitter Danny Snyder powered into the lead at the start of the super late model main event. Snyder was chased by third-place starter Donnie Schick and second-place starter Dave Brouse Sr. in the early laps of the race. On the 11th circuit, seventh-place starter Chad Hollenbeck advanced to third as 11th-place starter Jeff Rine dueled with ninth-place starter Jim Yoder for top five positions. At the halfway point, Rine took over third from Hollenbeck and a lap later powered by Schick for second. Rine made the winning pass by Snyder using the inside lane through turns one and two and quickly pulled away from the field. In the final laps, Hollenbeck raced into second and attempted to reel in Rine to no avail. At the finish, Rine was victorious by 1.4 seconds over Hollenbeck, Yoder, Snyder, and Matt Cochran. Second-place starter Nate Stroup led the first three laps of the pro stock feature until he lost the handle and spun. Third-place starter Derrick Garman inherited the lead with original polesitter Peanut Heintzelman restarting in the second position. By lap six, 12th-place starter Brad Mitch stormed into the runner-up position and set his sights on Garman. Mitch made the winning pass with a dive to the inside of Garman entering turn three and emerged the new leader out of turn four on lap eight. During the second half of the race, Mitch began to stretch his lead and posted a two-second margin of victory over Garman, Brandon Moser, Matt Wilson, and Dave Brouse Jr. Following a multi-car incident on the frontstretch, original tenth-place starter Curtis Lawton took the lead on the restart and wired the field in the roadrunner race but not without an intense side-by-side battle with ninth-place starter Jason Zook. In the final laps, seventh-place starter Jeremy Kline closed in on the leaders and made a three-car battle to the finish. Lawton took the checkered flag by just .11 of a second over Zook for his first-ever win with Kline rounding out the top three. On the 12th circuit, Lanigan pulled even with Bagley and made a pass for the lead at the start-finish line using the inside lane. At the halfway point of the race, Bagley closed in on Lanigan in slower traffic. By lap 22, eighth-place starter Shane Clanton began to show a lot of speed and reeled in the leaders in the third position. The first caution flag unfurled on lap 23 when Brandon Overton’s car developed a flat tire. On the restart, Lanigan set the pace as Clanton drove by Bagley for the second position. With 10 laps remaining, Lanigan held a comfortable lead over Clanton, Bagley, Chase Junghans, and Richards. On lap 38, Lanigan took evasive action in turn four when Jim Yoder’s car developed a flat tire. For the green-white-checker restart, Lanigan held the field at bay and posted a mere .77 of a second margin of victory over Clanton, Junghans, Bagley, and Richards. Outside front row starter Grant Adams pulled into the lead at the start of the limited late model main event. DIETRICH WIRES FIELD FOR FIRST SELINSGROVE SPRINT CAR WIN IN JIM NACE MEMORIAL 33rd ANNUAL NATIONAL OPEN SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Danny Dietrich of Gettysburg wired the field for his first-ever win at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s Jim Nace Memorial 33rd Annual National Open for 410 sprint cars sponsored by Paul Stine Chevrolet. The $10,000 victory at the wheel of the Kauffman Racing/ Sandoe’s Fruit Market No. 48 was Dietrich’s 15th overall win in sprint car racing this season. Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown was the Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 16.554. Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove won his first race of the season at Selinsgrove and fourth overall this year in the 25-lap super late model main event. Saturday night’s race closed out the 2015 racing season at the 70-year-old facility and marked the end of Charlie Paige’s 15-year term as track promoter. The Selinsgrove Fair Association, which governs the speedway, is working on a succession plan for racing to continue in 2016. Dietrich started on the pole and powered into the lead in the sprint car main event with second-place starter Lucas Wolfe and third-place starter Greg Hodnett in pursuit. On the ninth circuit, Hodnett drove by Wolfe for the runner-up spot racing out of turn four. The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap 12 when Aaron Ott’s car blew a tire on the frontstretch. Ott did a remarkable job keeping the car from making contact with the guardrail and was able to rejoin the race. On the lap 13 restart, Dietrich continued to set a blistering pace with Hodnett clearing the lapped cars and setting his sights on the leader. On the 16th lap, fourth-place starter TJ Stutts started to show a lot of speed and passed Wolfe for the third position. Ott, meanwhile, stormed into the ninth position after restarting on the rear of the field. On lap 18, however, misfortune struck the East Berlin driver again when his car slammed the inside wall and was struck by Michael Walter’s car. Both drivers escaped injury. With 15 laps to race, Stutts started to pressure Hodnett for the second position. In the final five laps, Dietrich encountered and navigated his way around slower traffic. Stutts made a last-ditch effort at Hodnett for second to no avail. At the checkered flag, Dietrich was victorious by 2.7 seconds over Hodnett, Stutts, seventh-place starter Brent Marks, and Wolfe. Polesitter Dylan Yoder pulled into the lead at the start of the late model main event while second-place starter Pancho Lawler held down the runner-up position for several laps. With three laps down, fourth-place starter Jim Yoder and fifth-place starter Jeff Rine dueled for the third position. On the seventh circuit, Rine took the third spot then advanced to second with a pass by Lawler out of turn four. A lap later, J. Yoder secured the third spot. The second half of the race D. Yoder dueled with Rine for the lead. Both drivers streaked around the top of the race track in the first and second spots. Despite several restarts, D. Yoder maintained an edge over Rine to the finish. At the checkered flag, D. Yoder was victorious by 1.2 seconds over Rine, Andy Haus, J. Yoder, and Chad Hollenbeck.
