HEIMBACH SCORES FIRST SELINSGROVE 410 SPRINT CAR WIN IN SEASON OPENER
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove, a 36-time 358-360 sprint car winner at Selinsgrove Speedway, scored the one victory that has eluded him for nearly a decade: His first career win in a 410 sprint car at Selinsgrove in the track’s 52nd consecutive season opener Sunday afternoon.
Heimbach’s $4,000 victory in the 25-lap feature came from the seventh starting position at the wheel of the Goff Racing/Creasy Signs No. 12.
Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg and JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J., won the eight-lap heat races.
On the initial start of the feature, second-place starter Greg Hodnett powered into the early lead over polesitter Justin Barger. However, a caution flag for 13th-place starter Pat Cannon, who made contact with the second-turn guardrail, regrouped the field for the second attempt to start the race.
When the race resumed, Barger pulled into a solid lead and held Hodnett at bay. Sixth-place starter Chad Layton quickly advanced to third while fourth-place starter JJ Grasso and seventh-place starter Heimbach dueled for the fourth spot.
A close battle unfolded for the third position between Layton and Heimbach as the race drew close to the halfway point. On lap 12, Heimbach powered by Layton for third and began to reel in the leaders. Less than a lap later, misfortune struck Barger as his car developed a flat tire, ending his hopes of an opening day win.
The race stayed under green flag conditions and Hodnett inherited the lead at Barger’s expense. Heimbach quickly reeled in the new pacesetter and then made the winning pass by diving inside of Hodnett entering turn one on the 15th circuit. Three laps later, Hodnett’s car went up in smoke and rolled to a stop in turn two.
On the subsequent restarts, Layton challenged Heimbach for the lead to no avail. At the checkered flag, Heimbach scored an impressive victory by two seconds over Layton, eighth-place starter Mike Erdley, third-place starter Lucas Wolfe, and 16th-place starter Steve Buckwalter.

STUTTS HOLDS OFF CHALLENGES FOR ESS 360 SPRINT CAR SEASON OPENER; RINE, MITCH & BISSINGER TAKE STOCK CAR VICTORIES
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – TJ Stutts of Liverpool held off numerous challenges to score the 30-lap Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint (ESS) season opener for 360 sprint cars sponsored by Mach 1 Chassis Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Stutts, who has won three of the last four ESS-sanctioned races at Selinsgrove, collected $3,000 for his 18th career victory at the track in 358-360 sprint car competition driving the Mountain View Travel/Mach 1 Chassis No. 23.
Steve Poirier of Quebec was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier over the 26-car field with a lap time of 17.384 seconds.
Defending champion Jeff Rine of Danville wired the field for his 86th career feature win at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap late model season opener.
Brad Mitch of McClure, last year’s leading pro stock feature winner, scored his 10th career victory in the division’s 15-lap main event, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville returned to the roadrunner class and scored his 41st career victory in the 12-lap feature.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the first of six races this season sanctioned by the United Racing Company (URC) 360 sprint cars plus late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
The first lap of the 360 sprint car feature produced a few hair-raising moments as polesitter Mike Walter took the lead and fourth-place starter TJ Stutts and sixth-place starter Mark Smith stormed into the second and third positions, respectively. Pat Cannon, who started second, held down the fourth position for most of the event.
The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap four when Brian Carber’s No. 8C sprinter spun in turn two. On the lap five restart, Walter and Stutts see-sawed for the front spot on the first of several occasions during the 30-lap contest, but it was Stutts who came away with the lead using the inside lane off turn four.
On a lap six restart, ninth-place starter Derek Locke advanced to fifth behind Stutts, Walter, Smith, and Cannon. On lap eight, the red flag waved when Steve Collins and Ryan Kissinger crashed in turn three. Both drivers walked away without injury.
When the race resumed, a war on wheels unfolded at the front of the pack. By the midway point, the race for the lead heated up between Stutts and Walter while the battle for third also escalated between Smith and Cannon.
Davie Franek, who started 12th, showed a lot of speed in the second half of the race and was racing eighth when his car rolled to a stop on lap 19. On the final restart on lap 22, Smith secured the second position and started to track down Stutts at the front the pack. At the checkered flag, Stutts was victorious by three seconds over Smith, Walter, Cannon, and 10th-place starter Brock Zearfoss.
Jeff Rine drew the pole position for the start the late model main event and powered into the lead at the drop of the green flag. The race was stopped on the first lap for a hard crash on the backstretch involving Chad Davis, Eric Hons, Dave Brouse Sr., and Chad Hollenbeck, whose car flipped upside down. All drivers escaped injury.
When the race resumed, Rine quickly checked out from the field despite the subsequent restarts. Second-place starter Tony Adams held down the runner up position while fourth-place starter Steve Campbell raced fourth. In the early laps of the race, fifth-place starter Jim Yoder closed in on Campbell in a race for the third spot.
On the eighth circuit, Yoder advanced to third and started to reel in Adams in the race for second. At the halfway point, Rine was leading Adams, Yoder, ninth-place starter Jim Bernheisel, and Campbell. Yoder powered into the runner up position on lap 17 and attempted to catch Rine.
The final caution flag unfurled on lap 18, regrouping the field for a seven-lap shootout. Rine held the field at bay and posted a convincing 4.9-second margin of victory over Yoder, eighth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel, Adams, and J. Bernheisel.
Third-place starter Brad Mitch rocketed into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Mitch was followed by last year’s pro stock Rookie of the Year and second-place starter Brandon Moser for the first two laps until Moser’s strong run came to an end on lap three.
Polesitter Peanut Heintzelman inherited the runner-up position with 11th-place starter Kyle Bachman in the third spot for the restart. Bachman took over second on lap five and attempted to reel in Mitch to no avail. At the finish, Mitch took the checkered flag over Bachman. In the post-race inspection, however, Bachman’s and Nathan Long’s cars were disqualified for rev-limiter infractions. Those penalties placed Heintzelman, Tommy Slanker, Adam Campbell, and Andrew Shoop in the top five spots behind Mitch.
Second-place starter Bob Bussey took the early lead in the roadrunner feature and was chased by fourth-place starter Keith Bissinger for the first four laps. On the fifth circuit, Bissinger made the winning pass by Bussey in the second turn.
Late in the race, polesitter John Fowler Jr. made a charge into second as sixth-place starter Curtis Lawton pulled into the third position. At the finish, Bissinger was victorious by a mere .61 of a second over Fowler, Lawton, Dave Kamp, and Jeremy Kline.

MARK SMITH DOMINATES IN 67TH URC SPRINT CAR SEASON OPENER; CAMPBELL “COMES HOME” FOR 45TH CAREER LATE MODEL VICTORY; MITCH & BISSINGER REPEAT IN PRO STOCKS & ROADRUNNERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Mark Smith of Sunbury took advantage of his pole starting position by wiring the field for his first victory of the season in Saturday night’s 67th United Racing Company (URC) 360 sprint car season opener at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Smith was awarded the pole position in the 25-lap feature by Mike Walter of Selinsgrove in the “revenge draw,” which determined the first nine starting positions in the 24-car field. Smith was behind the wheel of the Mach 1 Chassis house-car for the $2,500 win, which was his sixth career in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track.
Saturday night was the first of six race dates that will be sanctioned by URC at Selinsgrove in 2014. The next URC race at the track will be the Jack Gunn Memorial Challenge Race at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10.
Steve Campbell of Danville inherited the lead on lap seven from Jeff Rine of Danville and drove to his first win of the season and the 45th of his career in the 25-lap super late model feature. Campbell, who referred to Selinsgrove Speedway as his “home track” in Victory Lane, owns a combined 81 career victories at the speedway.
Brad Mitch of McClure and Keith Bissinger of Orangeville repeated wins in the 15-lap pro stock and 12-lap roadrunner features, respectively.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 358-360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26, on Family Night, featuring $20 general admission for immediate families (which will include parents and students ages 17 and under with student IDs).
On the initial start of the sprint car feature, 14th-place starter Colby Womer slammed the second turn wall and escaped injury. When the race restarted, polesitter Mark Smith powered into the lead with third-place starter Josh Weller racing in second.
After five laps, Smith held a sizeable lead over Weller, second-place starter Ryan Kissinger, eighth-place starter Davie Franek, and 10th-place starter Robbie Stillwaggon. By lap 10, Smith began to encounter slower traffic as the race for third intensified between Kissinger and Stillwaggon. Two laps later, after securing third, Stillwaggon rocketed by Weller for the runner-up position.
A double-file restart on lap 18 placed Smith and Stillwaggon side-by-side on the front row. When the race resumed, Smith was challenged by Stillwaggon for the lead to no avail. At the checkered flag, Smith won the race by just .91 of a second over Stillwaggon, Kissinger, Franek, and 11th-place starter Larry Kelleher.
Jeff Rine started on the front row for the late model feature and steered into the early lead over polesitter Bryan Bernheisel. At the completion of the first lap, fourth-place starter Steve Campbell horsepowered his way into the runner-up position.
With a commanding lead, Rine was forced to withdraw from the race on lap six when his car reportedly developed driveline issues. Campbell inherited the lead at Rine’s expense and never looked back.
On a lap 12 restart, Campbell set the pace while a torrid battle for second unfolded behind him between Bernheisel, third-place starter Ken Trevitz, sixth-place starter Jim Yoder, and fifth-place starter Chad Hollenbeck.
With five laps remaining, 11th-place starter Hayes Mattern advanced to fifth. In the final laps, Trevitz and Yoder began to erase Campbell’s lead margin. At the checkered flag, Campbell was victorious by just 1.06 seconds over Trevitz, Bernheisel, Yoder, and Mattern.
Polesitter Andrew Shoop led the first four laps of the pro stock feature until he drifted into the high lane in turn two and allowed third-place starter Brad Mitch to power underneath him for the lead. Mitch quickly opened up a comfortable lead over Shoop, second-place starter Brandon Moser, and fourth-place starter Derrick Garman.
At the midway point, Garman began to show a lot of speed and soon powered into the runner-up position with his sights set on Mitch. In the final laps of the race, Garman began to close in on Mitch but ran out of the time. At the finish, Mitch was victorious by one second over Garman, Shoop, eighth-place starter Nathan Long, and sixth-place starter Kyle Bachman.
Outside front row starter John Schoch stormed into the lead in the roadrunner feature with fourth-place starter and the previous week’s winner Keith Bissinger in pursuit. On the second circuit, Bissinger took command of the field with an inside pass in turn two. At the same time, eighth-place starter John Fowler Jr. advanced to third.
Bissinger held a strong lead until a last-lap chase to the checkered flag when he reportedly started to sense mechanical issues with his race car. At the finish, Bissinger was victorious by a mere .69 of a second over Schoch, Fowler, Curtis Lawton, and defending champion Brian Johnson.

FRANEK POWERS TO 360 SPRINT CAR WIN; YODER RETURNS TO LATE MODEL VICTORY LANE; MITCH THREE-PEATS IN PRO STOCKS; JOHNSON WINS FIRST OF SEASON IN ROADRUNNERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Davie “No Panic” Franek of Wantage, N.J., scored an impressive win in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature in record-breaking time at Selinsgrove Speedway. Franek set a new record for the distance in 8 minutes, 12.08 seconds and in the process earned his first win at the track since 2010.
Driving the Franek Auto Sales No. 28-F, he collected $2,000 for his seventh career 358-360 sprint car victory at the Snyder County half-mile oval and became the third different winner in as many races.
Jim Yoder of Selinsgrove drove to his first win of the season and the 11th of his career in super late model racing at Selinsgrove in the division’s 25-lap main event. Three late model races have also produced three different winners.
In the 15-lap pro stock feature, Brad Mitch of McClure pulled off the “hat trick” with his third straight win, while defending roadrunner champion Brian Johnson of Ashland won his first 12-lap race of the year.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the first-ever appearance by the Three State Flyers Late Model Series plus 358-360 sprint cars at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3. The late models will compete in a 30-lap feature paying $3,000 to win. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter Cody Keller charged into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Fourth-place starter and defending champion Jason Shultz powered by Keller for the early lead entering the third turn on the second lap. By the third circuit, seventh-place starter Davie Franek motored his way into the third position. Two laps later, fifth-place starter Brock Zearfoss advanced to third and a close battle unfolded at the front of the pack.
On the 10th lap, the race for the lead heated up, and Franek got underneath Shultz in turn two and then made the winning pass using the outside lane racing off turn four. At the halfway point, Franek was leading Shultz and Zearfoss as ninth-place starter TJ Stutts and 10th-place starter Mark Smith raced into the top five.
With five laps to go, an exciting battle for second took place between Zearfoss and Shultz, with Zearfoss winning out the position on lap 21. At the finish, Franek was victorious by 3.3 seconds over Zearfoss, Stutts, Shultz, and Smith.
A multi-car crash in turns three and four opened the late model feature. When the race restarted, second-place starter Jim Bernheisel pulled into the lead over polesitter Chad Hollenbeck. On the third circuit, ninth-place starter Jim Yoder used the inside lane through turns three and four to pass Hollenbeck for second.
Yoder made the winning pass by Bernheisel in turn four on lap six. A caution flag on lap nine regrouped the field with Yoder leading Bernheisel, Hollenbeck, seventh-place starter Kenny Trevitz, and 10th-place starter Andy Haus. With 10 laps to race, Yoder started to stretch his lead over Bernheisel as Trevitz showed a lot of speed and moved into the third position.
At the checkered flag, Yoder took the win by 1.6 seconds over Bernheisel, Trevitz, Haus, and 14th-place starter Dylan Yoder.
Following multiple melees that hindered the start of the pro stock feature, original seventh-place starter Brad Mitch horsepowered his way into the early lead and kept his 10M out in front for the distance. Mitch was closely trailed by 14th-place starter AJ Stroup for most of the event.
Fifth-place starter Nathan Long, who was involved in one of the early-race incidents, rebounded into a solid third-place run after a long battle with third-place starter Tommy Slanker. At the finish, Mitch took the checkered flag over Stroup by just one second. Stroup, however, was disqualified in the post-race inspection due to a malfunctioning rev-limiter box.
Long was then credited with second, followed by ninth-place starter Jamin Chapmin, 18th-place starter Kurt Wray, and fourth-place starter Peanut Heintzelman.
Third-place starter Curtis Lawton drove into the lead on the second attempt to start the roadrunner feature. Lawton was chased by eighth-place starter and defending champion Brian Johnson for the first half of the race until Johnson took over the front spot on lap seven.
Johnson won his first race of the season by 2.1 seconds over Lawton, fifth-place starter Keith Bissinger, sixth-place starter Butch Shaffer, and fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr.

RAIN DELAY DOESN’T SLOW DOWN STONE & SMITH SATURDAY NIGHT: STONE WIRES FIELD FOR THREE STATE FLYERS LATE MODEL VICTORY; SMITH BECOMES FIRST REPEAT SPRINT CAR WINNER OF SEASON
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Mark Smith of Sunbury became the first repeat sprint car winner of the season in the 25-lap 358-360 sprint car feature Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Smith, driving the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1, took home $2,000 for his seventh career win in 358-360 sprint car racing at the half-mile oval.
Dan Stone of Thompson wired the field for his first win of the season in the first-ever Three State Flyers Late Model Series 35-lap feature. Stone earned $3,000 for his sixth career super late model victory at the track.
Despite a one-hour rain delay, the speedway was in excellent condition for the competitive field of 25 sprint car and 24 late model drivers on Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Night.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Mach 1 Chassis Jack Gunn Memorial for 358-360 sprint cars sanctioned by the United Racing Company (URC) at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10. The 30-lap tribute race will pay $3,500 to win. Joining the sprint cars on the racing card will be the super late models and pro stocks. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Second-place starter Colby Womer powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Womer was chased by polesitter Cody Keller. The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap four when Scott Lutz’s car stopped on the backstretch.
When the race resumed, Keller challenged Womer for the lead and made a successful pass using the inside lane in turn two on lap five. A lap later, eighth-place starter Mark Smith advanced to second. At the halfway point, Keller had a strong lead over Smith until his car lost power on the frontstretch.
Smith inherited the lead with Womer, seventh-place starter Pat Cannon, fifth-place starter Ryan Kissinger, and 12th-place starter Davie Franek competing in the top five. Then the red flag stopped the race on lap 13 when Matt Horst and Mark Bittner crashed in turn two. Both drivers escaped injury.
On the restart, Smith opened up a lead while an intense battle unfolded for second between Womer and Cannon. A wheel-to-wheel race also unfolded for the fourth position between fourth-place starter Jason Shultz and 11th-place starter Davie Franek.
Cannon took over second when Womer’s car bobbled in turn four on lap 22. With two laps remaining, Franek stormed into third. At the checkered flag, Smith was victorious by 2.5 seconds over Cannon, Franek, Shultz, and Womer.
The late model feature started with a two-car tangle in turn two before a rain delay stopped the race for about one hour. When the race restarted, polesitter Dan Stone stormed into the lead over second-place starter Andy Haus. On the second circuit, Haus and third-place starter Matt Cochran see-sawed for the runner-up position.
Cochran took over second and set his sites on Stone as fourth-place starter Steve Campbell powered into the third position. By lap 14, Cochran was beginning to reel in Stone in slower traffic. On a lap 17 restart, Cochran’s car was glued to Stone’s around the lightning-fast half mile oval. Meanwhile, an intense race for third unfolded between Campbell and sixth-place starter Jeff Rine.
Misfortune struck Cochran on lap 26 when his front fender came off and a tire went flat. On the lap 27 restart, the top four drivers pulled away from the pack with Stone now fending off Campbell for the lead. With two laps remaining, Rine’s car fell off the pace and 12th-place starter Kenny Pettyjohn took over the third position.
At the finish, Stone was victorious by just 1.3 seconds over Campbell, Haus, Pettyjohn, and 18th-place starter Dylan Yoder.

SMITH CAPTURES ESS 360 SPRINT CAR RACE; RINE RETURNS TO LATE MODEL VICTORY LANE; BACHMAN SCORES FIRST PRO STOCK WIN OF SEASON; JOHNSON MAKES LATE-RACE PASS FOR ROADRUNNER WIN
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Mark Smith powered to a convincing win in Saturday night’s 25-lap Mach 1 Chassis Empire Super Sprint (ESS) 360 sprint car feature over defending champion Jason Shultz of Carlisle. The $3,000 win was Smith’s third of the season and eighth career in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track.
The race was marred by a serious crash on lap three involving three drivers at the end of the backstretch. Duane Mausteller of Bloomsburg and Jamie Collard of Burford, Ont., were transported to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with undisclosed injuries. Also involved in the incident was Shawn Donath of South Onondaga, N.Y., who escaped injury.
Jeff Rine of Danville returned to Victory Lane for his second win of the season in the 25-lap late model feature. The win also marked Rine’s second of the weekend, having picked up the win Friday night at the Bedford Speedway, and 87th career at Selinsgrove.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove drove to his first win of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while defending champion Brian Johnson of Ashland won his second 12-lap roadrunner race.
The next race at Selinsgrove Speedway will be the Ray Tilley Classic for 410 sprint cars at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 25. The super sportsman and 305 sprint cars will join the 410 sprint cars for the open wheel tripleheader. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Outside front row starter TJ Stutts took the lead at the start of the sprint car feature and was chased by fourth-place starter Cody Keller. The race was halted on the third circuit for a backstretch crash involving eighth-place starter Jamie Collard, 10th-place starter Shawn Donath, and 18th-place starter Duane Mausteller. Mausteller was air-lifted to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville and Collard was transported by ambulance with undisclosed injuries. Donath was not injured in the crash.
When the race resumed, Stutts continued to lead over Keller, seventh-place starter Mark Smith, 12th-place starter Pat Cannon, and sixth-place starter Jason Barney. On a lap 10 restart, Smith and Cannon drove by Keller for the second and third positions. Stutts and Smith then dueled for the lead only to make contact on the frontstretch, which sent Stutts into a wild spin into the first turn.
On the lap 12 retart, 14th-place starter Jason Shultz showed a lot of speed and stormed into second. Shultz and Cannon then dueled for the position while Keller remained a close fourth. With five laps remaining, Keller took third away from Cannon. At the finish, Smith was victorious by 2.2 seconds over Shultz, Keller, Cannon, and 17th-place starter Steve Poirier. Second-place starter Dave Zona powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature over polesitter Tim Wilson and sixth-place starter Jim Bernheisel. On the fourth circuit, seventh-place starter Jeff Rine advanced to the fourth position.
The caution flag unfurled on lap nine when Jim Yoder’s car rolled to a stop in turn four. On the lap 10 restart, Bernheisel passed Wilson for the runner up spot. Wilson, however, stopped in turn two on the next lap. A multi-car pileup unfolded in turn four on lap 12; all drivers escaped injury. Then Bernheisel dropped out of the race on the restart.
With 10 laps to go, Zona was leading Rine, ninth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel, and 10th-place starter Andy Haus. Rine made the winning pass using the outside lane coming off turn on the 18th lap. He went on to win the race by five seconds over Zona, B. Bernheisel, Haus, and 11th-place starter Steve Campbell.
Polesitter Kyle Bachman wired the field for his first win of the season in the pro stock feature. Bachman was chased by second-place starter Jake Buck and third-place starter Adam Campbell. Campbell took over second for several laps. The race saw a caution flag on lap five when Nathan Long’s car rolled to a stop.
When the race resumed, Bachman stretched his lead over the field. In the final laps of the race, three-time winner and 11th-place starter Brad Mitch made a last-ditch effort to catch Bachman and keep his winning streak alive. At the finish, Bachman was victorious by 2.6 seconds over Mitch, Campbell, Buck, and Andrew Shoop.
Polesitter Brandon Shultz led the first two laps of the roadrunner feature. Sixth-place starter John Fowler Jr. took over the lead on lap three and also led for two laps. Eighth-place starter Keith Bissinger kept his racer at the front of the pack through lap eight, when fifth-place starter Brian Johnson made the winning pass. Johnson was victorious over Bissinger, Fowler, Butch Shaffer, and Ed Capper.

STUTTS WINS SECOND 360 SPRINT CAR RACE; ZONA POWERS TO LATE MODEL VICTORY; MITCH WIRES FIELD FOR PRO STOCK 20 WIN; BISSINGER RETURNS TO ROADRUNNER WINNERS CIRCLE
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – TJ Stutts of Liverpool stormed to his second win of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway and made gains on points leader and three-time winner Mark Smith of Sunbury in the chase for the track championship.
Stutts collected $2,000 for his 19th career win in 358-360 sprint car competition behind the wheel of the Shimock Furniture/Mountain View Travel No. 23M.
Dave Zona of Montrose drove to his second career win at Selinsgrove Speedway in the 25-lap super late model feature and became the division’s fifth different winner in six races.
Brad Mitch of McClure wired the field for his first win in the 13th annual Pro Stock 20. The $1,000 victory was Mitch’s fourth of the season and 13th of his career in the pro stock division at the track.
Keith Bissinger of Orangeville won his third race of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner feature.
A large crowd contributed $3,397.60 as part of a helmet collection by the drivers for Duane Mausteller of Bloomsburg and Jamie Collard of Burford, Ontario, who were injured in the May 17 sprint car feature at the track. As of Saturday, Mausteller remained in critical condition at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Collard is recuperating from his injuries at home.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the United Racing Company (URC) 34th annual Jack Gunn Memorial for 358-360 sprint cars plus late models and pro stocks sponsored by PEPSI at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7. The 30-lap Gunn Memorial will pay $3,500 to win and $225 to start out of the $15,000-plus purse. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter and defending champion Jason Shultz powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature over third-place starter Derek Locke. By lap three, Shultz developed a solid lead while second-place starter Colby Womer passed Locke for the second spot.
By lap five, Shultz was leading over Womer, fourth-place starter TJ Stutts, Locke, and sixth-place starter Mark Smith. The caution flag slowed the field on lap six when seventh-place starter Larry Kelleher spun in turn three.
When the race resumed, Stutts passed Womer for second and reeled in Shultz in a race for the lead. On the seventh circuit, Stutts raced underneath Shultz in turn two and made contact which sent Shultz into a spin on the backstretch. Stutts took command of the field while Shultz rejoined the race on the back of the pack.
At the halfway point, Stutts was leading fifth-place starter Davie Franek and Smith in the top three positions. On lap 22, Michael Walter, who was racing a solid top five, rolled to a stop in turn two, setting up a chase to the checkered flag. On the restart, Smith drove by Franek and attempted to reel in Stutts to no avail. At the finish, Stutts took the checkered flag over Smith, Franek, Womer, and Shultz.
Polesitter Dustin Hoffman drove into the early lead in the late model feature. Hoffman was chased by second-place starter Jason Schmidt and fourth-place starter Dave Zona. On the fourth circuit, Zona made an inside pass by Schmidt in turn two for the runner-up position and set his sights on the leader.
On lap six, Hoffman bobbled in turn four, allowing Zona to streak underneath him for the lead. Eighth-place starter Tony Adams throttled his way into third and closed in on the leaders. The caution flag unfurled on lap 11 for debris. When the race resumed, 12th-place starter Jeff Rine fell off the pace in turn two while Hayes Mattern withdrew from the race with a flat tire.
At the halfway point, fifth-place starter Jim Bernheisel horsepowered his way into the second position while 11th-place starter Andy Haus raced into the top five. With 10 laps to go, Haus passed Adams for third.
The race’s final caution flag waved on lap 19 when Jim Yoder’s car fell off the pace. When the race resumed, all all-out war on wheels unfolded at the front of the pack with 15th-place starter Steve Campbell and 16th-place starter Donnie Schick making late-race charges. At the checkered flag, Zona was victorious over Haus, Campbell, Adams, and Schick.
In the Pro Stock 20, second-place starter Brad Mitch pulled into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Mitch was chased by fourth-place starter Derrick Garman and sixth-place starter AJ Stroup. In the early laps of the race, Garman and Stroup dueled for the runner-up position. By lap five, 10th-place starter Nathan Long showed a lot of speed and advanced to fourth with fifth-place starter Kyle Bachman holding down a top-five run.
At the midway point, Mitch, Garman, and Stroup broke away from the pack. In the closing laps, Garman reeled in Mitch and was in striking distance on the checkered flag lap. At the finish, Mitch was victorious by the slimmest of margins over Garman, Stroup, Long, and Bachman.
Polesitter John Schoch led the first four laps of the roadrunner feature until ninth-place starter Keith Bissinger made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn three. Bissinger stretched his lead while defending champion Brian Johnson raced into the second position at the halfway point.
At the finish, Bissinger was victorious by several car-lengths over Johnson, John Fowler Jr., Curtis Lawton, and Schoch.

OTT & WILSON SCORE FIRST SELINSGROVE WINS IN SPRINTS & LATE MODELS; BACHMAN WINS PRO STOCK THRILLER
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Aaron Ott of East Berlin chased down Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., in the first half of Saturday night’s 34th running of the Jack Gunn Memorial for 360 sprint cars before securing the lead and rocketing to his first career win at the historic Snyder County half-mile oval.
Ott earned $3,500 for his victory in the 30-lap United Racing Company-sanctioned tribute race to the late Hall of Fame promoter Jack Gunn at the wheel of the Don Ott Racing Engines No. 25. Ott, who also won the URC 360 sprint car race Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, became the fourth different 360 sprint car feature winner this season at Selinsgrove.
“I wanted to win here for so long,” said Ott in Victory Lane. “My hat’s off to my crew and the racetrack. This was an absolutely awesome racetrack tonight on both the top and bottom. I’m just ecstatic to be here. I can’t say enough about this weekend.”
Derek Locke of Mechanicsburg was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier over a stellar field of 358-360 sprint cars with a lap time of 17.287.
Tim Wilson of Port Royal also earned his first career win at the track in the 25-lap super late model feature. Wilson became the division’s sixth different winner in seven races this season.
The suspenseful, wheel-to-wheel battle in the 15-lap pro stock feature went to Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove. The win was Bachman’s second of the season.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the first-ever Patriot Sprint Tour-sanctioned event plus late models and pro stocks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14. The sprint cars will compete for $2,571 to win in the Joe Whitcomb Memorial. Gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter Robbie Stillwaggon took the early lead in the sprint car feature over second-place starter Davie Franek. On the third circuit, however, Stillwaggon’s car developed mechanical problems and he was forced to withdraw from the race. Franek inherited the lead and was chased by fourth-place starter Greg Hodnett.
A battle for third ensued between third-place starter TJ Stutts and sixth-place starter Aaron Ott. Ott eventually advanced to third and quickly reeled in Hodnett in a race for the second position. On lap 10, Ott drew a bead on the bottom of the racetrack through turns one and two and took over the second position.
At the halfway point in the 30-lap contest, Ott made the winning pass using the inside lane off turn two following a wheel-to-wheel battle with Franek. Once he got the lead, Ott started to stretch his lead in traffic as Stutts powered into second on lap 22.
With five laps remaining, Ott was navigating his way through heavy lapped traffic. At the finish, Ott scored an impressive 3.8-second margin of victory over Stutts, 15th-place starter Mark Smith, Hodnett, and 20th-place starter Pat Cannon.
Second-place starter Tim Wilson led the first lap of the late model feature. On the second circuit, second-place runner Harry Miller spun in turn and collected five other cars in the incident. When the race resumed, Wilson set the pace in front of sixth-place starter Donnie Schick while a race for third unfolded between eighth-place starter Jeff Rine and ninth-place starter Jim Yoder.
On a lap 11 restart, Bryan Bernheisel and Austin Berry made contact on the backstretch, resulting in an 11-car melee that brought out the red flag. There were no driver injuries reported. When the race restarted, Yoder’s car developed a flat tire on lap 12.
In the second half of the race, Wilson streaked away from the field and posted a straightaway victory over Schick, Rine, last week’s winner Dave Zona, and Bryan Bernheisel.
Fourth-place starter Nathan Long charged into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Long was pressured by polesitter Jake Buck and then fifth-place starter Kyle Bachman. Long and Bachman see-sawed for the lead several times and an all-out war on wheels unfolded at the front of the pack.
Bachman eventually secured the lead with an inside pass racing off turn four. In the final laps 11th-place starter Brad Mitch stormed into the second spot and put in a bid for the lead. On the final lap, no less than five cars were racing under a blanket to determine the winner of the suspenseful feature.
When the checkered flag waved, it was Bachman taking the win by the slimmest of margins over Mitch, 10th-place starter Andrew Shoop, Buck, and ninth-place starter AJ Stroup.

STUTTS WINS WAR ON WHEELS FOR WHITCOMB MEMORIAL SPRINT VICTORY; YODER SHOWS LATE-RACE SPEED FOR LATE MODEL WIN & NEW TRACK RECORD; LONG TAKES CHECKERS IN ANOTHER PRO STOCK THRILLER
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – TJ Stutts of Liverpool and Mark Smith of Sunbury exchanged the lead several times before Stutts settled the suspenseful war on wheel s with a victory in Saturday night’s 30-lap Patriot Sprint Tour/11th Annual Joe Whitcomb Memorial for 358-360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $2,571 win was Stutts’ third of the season and third career in the Whitcomb Memorial at the wheel of the Mountain View Travel/Shimock’s Furniture No. 23. The victory also marked the 20th of his career in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track.
Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 17.414.
Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove won his first race of the season at Selinsgrove and fourth overall this year in record-setting fashion in the 25-lap super late model feature. Yoder became the division’s seventh different feature winner in eight races and set a new track record for the distance in 9 minutes, 3 seconds, and .30 of a second.
Nathan Long of Selinsgrove scored an exciting win in another close finish in the 15-lap pro stock feature. Long became the division’s third different winner this season.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners on Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Night (JDRF) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
At the start of the Whitcomb Memorial, second-place starter Mark Smith pulled into the lead over polesitter Jason Shultz. Before the completion of lap one, sixth-place starter TJ Stutts raced into the third position. The caution flag unfurled on lap two when Ryan Kissinger’s car made contact with the first turn wall.
When the race resumed, Stutts passed Shultz for the second spot and set his sights on Smith. A two-car tangle in turn three regrouped the field for a lap five restart. Stutts drew even with Smith entering turn one but Smith maintained the lead with momentum around the top of the racetrack.
In the early laps of the race, Smith led the field over Stutts, fourth-place starter Cody Keller, 11th-place starter Pat Cannon, and Shultz. On the 14th circuit, Smith drifted high in turn two traffic and allowed Stutts to make a pass for the lead using the inside groove.
A caution on lap 15 became a red flag for a fuel stop. During the second half of the race, Stutts maintained a solid lead while Smith kept him in his sights. Ninth-place starter and fast qualifier Brock Zearfoss entered the top five with nine laps to race. The final caution flag waved on lap 25, setting up a five-lap dash to the checkered flag.
The final laps produced an exciting wheel-to-wheel duel between Stutts and Smith, swapping the lead several times through the turns. Stutts eventually settled into the lead and went on to post a mere 1.3-second margin of victory over Smith, Cannon, Shultz, and Zearfoss.
Second-place starter Eric Hons powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Hons was chased by polesitter Matt Cochran. By lap five, fourth-place starter Jerry Bard moved into the third position and the top three began to pull away from the field.
On the eighth lap, 10th-place starter Dylan Yoder advanced to fourth and quickly reeled in the leaders. At the halfway point, Yoder showed a lot of speed and moved by Bard and Cochran to take over the second position. Hons and Yoder dueled for the lead and it wasn’t until lap 17 when Yoder made the winning pass using the inside lane through turns one and two.
Late in the race, Jeff Rine rocketed into the top five and eventually took over the second spot with two laps to go. At the finish, Yoder was victorious by two seconds over Rine, Hons, Bard and Cochran.
In the pro stock feature, second-place starter Matt Wilson led the first lap with sixth-place starter Nathan Long in pursuit. On a lap two restart, Long took command of the field with an inside pass racing off turn four. At the same time, fourth-place starter Jake Buck followed Long into the second position.
During the second half of the race, a torrid battle unfolded at the front of the pack between the top six runners. Long kept his No. 63 in front of the pack by the slimmest of margins. At the finish, Long took the checkered flag by just .58 of a second over 10th-place starter Brad Mitch, who made a late-race charge into the runner-up position. Rounding out the top five were eighth-place starter Derrick Garman, seventh-place starter AJ Stroup, and ninth-place starter Andrew Shoop.

ZEARFROSS THRILLS CROWD WITH FIRST SELINSGROVE SPRINT WIN OF 2014; RINE MAKES LATE-RACE PASS FOR THIRD LATE MODEL WIN; GARMAN SCORES FIRST CAREER PRO STOCK VICTORY; BISSINGER RETURNS TO WINNERS CIRCLE IN ROADRUNNERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – In an exciting race that at one point produced a three-wide battle for the lead, Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown secured the front spot on lap 11 in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway and drove to his first win of the season.
The win for Zearfoss, at the wheel of the Central Builders Supply No. 1-W, was his second career at the track and was worth $2,000.
Jeff Rine of Danville made a late-race pass for the lead in the 25-lap super late model feature for his third win of the year and 88th career at the track.
Derrick Garman of Loysville held off multiple challenges for the lead and scored his first career win at Selinsgrove Speedway in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville powered to his fourth win of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the URC-sanctioned Middleswarth Potato Chips Firecracker 30 for 358-360 sprint cars paying $2,500 to win plus super late models and pro stocks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28.
Polesitter Bobby Parrow took the early in the sprint car feature and was chased by fourth-place starter Ryan Kissinger. Kissinger and second-place starter Michael Walter II dueled for the runner-up position for several laps while sixth-place starter Brock Zearfoss joined the battle at the front of the pack.
On the sixth circuit, a three-wide race for the lead between Parrow, Kissinger, and Zearfoss unfolded through turns one and two. On a lap seven restart, Kissinger made a pass underneath Parrow in turn one to take the lead. Another torrid battle for the lead developed between Kissinger and Zearfoss, while an exciting wheel-to-wheel race was taking place for the top five positions between eighth-place starter TJ Stutts, fifth-place starter Derek Locke, and 10th-place starter Mark Smith.
On the 11th lap, Zearfoss attempted a pass on the low side through turns one and two but had to wait until turn four to make the winning pass using the outside line by Kissinger. Zearfoss then opened up a lead only to have Stutts make a spectacular effort to catch him in the final laps.
At the finish, Zearfoss was victorious by just 1.5 seconds over Stutts, Smith, Locke, and seventh-place starter Pat Cannon.
Front-row starter Hayes Mattern led the first lap of the late model feature over polesitter Pancho Lawler. On the second circuit, fourth-place starter Jerry Bard moved into the second position and started to reel in Mattern. With five laps completed, Mattern was leading Bard, third-place starter Matt Cochran, Lawler, and sixth-place starter Donnie Schick.
On the ninth circuit, Bard was in striking distance and made a pass for the lead by Mattern using the outside lane in turn two. At the halfway point, Bard had a solid lead over Mattern, ninth-place starter Jeff Rine, Cochran, and fifth-place starter Tony Adams. With 10 laps to race, Rine advanced to second and quickly gained real estate on Bard.
Rine made the winning pass by Bard using the inside groove racing off turn four on lap 22. Once in front of the pack, Rine stretched his lead and posted a 2.2-second margin of victory over Bard, seventh-place starter Jim Yoder, Adams, and Schick.
Second-place starter Kurt Wray powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Wray was trailed by fourth-place starter AJ Stroup for the first two laps until both AJ and his teammate and polesitter Nate Stroup withdrew from the race. Sixth-place starte Derrick Garman took over the second position and set his sights on Wray while 10th-place starter Nathan Long advanced to third.
On the sixth circuit, Wray’s car bobbled off the fourth turn and allowed Garman and eighth-place starter Brad Mitch to race by. The final laps produced another suspenseful finish as Mitch pulled alongside of Garman for the lead and win in turn three on the final lap only to have a caution flag break up the battle. For the one-lap chase to the checkered flag, Garman won by just .44 of a second over Mitch, Andrew Shoop, Jamin Chapmin, and Jake Buck.
In the roadrunner feature, second-place starter Curtis Lawton led the first lap, only to bobble in the second turn and lose the spot to fifth-place starter Keith Bissinger on the second circuit. Bissinger set the pace the rest of the event while being chased by third-place starter John Fowler Jr. At the finish, Bissinger was victorious by 2.2 seconds over Fowler, Bob Bussey, Brian Johnson, and Butch Shaffer.

FRANEK ROCKETS TO FIRECRACKER 30 SPRINT CAR WIN; ZONA SCORES SECOND LATE MODEL VICTORY; STROUP AVOIDS COLLISION FOR PRO STOCK CHECKERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., rocketed to his first win in the 13th Annual Middleswarth Potato Chips Firecracker 30 for 358-360 sprint cars Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. The $2,500 United Racing Company (URC) win was Franek’s second of the season at Selinsgrove and third overall this year at the wheel of the Franek Auto Sales No. 28F.
Dave Zona of Montrose also scored his second win of the season at the track in the 25-lap super late model feature, while AJ Stroup of Evendale drove to his first win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock main event.
Selinsgrove Speedway will be in action two times over the Independence Day holiday weekend with a four division show of 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, and an open wheel tripleheader featuring the 410 sprint cars in the Opperman Memorial/PA Speedweek Finale plus super sportsman and 305 sprint cars at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 6.
At the start of the Firecracker race, polesitter Ed Aikin drove into the early lead. Sixth-place starter Davie Franek quickly advanced to second and made the winning pass using the inside lane through turns one and two on the second circuit. Franek, however, was reeled in by fourth-place starter Derek Locke and second-place starter Michael Walter II. In the first 10 laps, Locke and Walter dueled for the runner-up position while Franek attempted to stretch his lead in traffic.
On lap 17, seventh-place starter Brock Zearfoss drove into the third position and a close three-car battle for the lead unfolded in traffic. Racing off turn two on the 20th circuit, the lead trio raced nearly three-wide until the event’s first caution flag unfurled when Walter’s car struck the two turn guardrail and rolled to a stop.
For the double-file restart with 10 laps remaining, Franek chose the inside lane and cruised ahead of the field while 14th-place starter Mark Smith stormed into the top five and within a few laps was racing second. Smith, however, could not catch Franek and finished 2.3 seconds off of Franek’s winning pace. Zearfoss finished third, followed by 11th-place starter TJ Stutts and ninth-place starter Pat Cannon.
Polesitter Dustin Hoffman pulled into the lead at the start of the late model feature and was trailed by fifth-place starter Chad Hollenbeck and fourth-place starter Jim Bernheisel. By lap five, seventh-place starter Dave Zona advanced to fourth and showed a lot of speed.
On the seventh circuit, Bernheisel’s car rolled to a stop in turn two. On the ensuing restart, Hoffman was leading a high-speed chase in front of Hollenbeck and Zona. On the 11th lap, Hoffman bobbled in turn two and Zona took full advantage by closing the gap and eventually taking the lead in turn four. At the halfway point, 11th-place starter Steve Campbell powered into second as 12th-place starter Jeff Rine streaked into the third position.
At the checkered flag, Zona was victorious by 1.9 seconds over Campbell, Rine, ninth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel, and eighth-place starter Jim Yoder.
Third-place starter Adam Campbell powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was chased by sixth-place starter Kyle Bachman. Following some contact on the fourth circuit, Bachman took command of the field with an inside pass in turn four.
In the first half of the race a battle for the lead developed between Bachman and eighth-place starter Brad Mitch, while a duel for the third position unfolded between fourth-place starter AJ Stroup and Campbell.
On the ninth circuit, Bachman and Mitch made contact in turn three, forcing Stroup to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Mitch eventually pitted with loose sheet metal hanging on the car while Bachman rejoined at the rear of the field and made a quick rebound to the front of the pack.
Stroup led the field the rest of the way to the win by 2.6 seconds over Bachman. Jake Buck, Campbell, and Jamin Chapman completed the top five.

KISSINGER MAKES LATE-RACE PASS FOR 360 SPRINT WIN; BERNHEISEL AWARDED WIN IN LATE MODEL SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP; BACHMAN NOTCHES THIRD PRO STOCK VICTORY; FOWLER TAKES FIRST ROADRUNNER WIN OF SEASON
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Ryan Kissinger of Bloomsburg made a late-race pass by defending champion Jason Shultz of Carlisle for his first win since 2011 in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Kissinger was at the wheel of the Ford-powered Predator Cams No. 66 for his second career win at the track. He dedicated the win to his friend and fellow competitor Duane Mausteller of Bloomsburg, who was critically injured in a sprint car racing accident at the speedway on May 17 of this year.
Mausteller was released from Geisinger Medical Center on Wednesday, July 2, and transferred to the MOSS Rehab Center in Philadelphia where he is undergoing therapy and showing signs of improvement, according to his father Randy Mausteller.
In the 30-lap late model summer championship, the $2,000 win was awarded to Jim Bernheisel of Lebanon when Coleby Frye’s car was disqualified for a racing tire infraction. The win was Bernheisel’s first of the year.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove scored his third win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock thriller, while John Fowler Jr. of Montandon won his first race of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner feature.
This Sunday, July 6, Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Jan Opperman Memorial / PA Speedweek Finale for 410 sprint cars plus super sportsman and 305 sprint cars at 7:30 p.m. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Selinsgrove Speedway’s half-mile track will be dark Saturday, July 12, and weekly racing will resume on Saturday, July 19, with the annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Driver & Fan Appreciation Night featuring 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. The sprint car and late model features on July 19 will each pay $2,500 to win.
Polesitter Colby Womer took the early lead in the sprint car feature over third-place starter Jason Shultz. On the seventh circuit, Shultz pulled alongside of Womer in a race for the lead. On the eighth circuit, Womer’s car bobbled in turn four which allowed Shultz to race by for the front spot. On a lap 10 restart, Shultz led the field over second-place starter Ryan Kissinger and Womer in a battle for the lead.
At the halfway point, eighth-place starter Mark Smith advanced to the third spot and set his sights on Shultz and Kissinger. Shultz protected the lead by running the inside lane while Kissinger remained in striking distance racing the high line. On the 20th circuit, Kissinger made the winning pass using the outside lane in turn two. With four laps to go, an intense four-car battle took shape at the front of the pack between Kissinger, Shultz, Smith, and seventh-place starter TJ Stutts.
With three laps to race, contact between Shultz and Smith on the backstretch sent Smith’s car into a wild spin; damage was extensive enough to sideline Smith for the night. On the restart, Kissinger went the distance and posted a .71 of a second margin of victory over Stutts, Shultz, Mike Walter, and Zearfoss.
Second-place starter Coleby Frye powered into the lead at the start of the late model championship race. Third-place starter Jim Bernheisel took over the second spot and attempted to keep Frye in his sights; however, Frye stretched his lead on each of the subsequent restarts.
The first caution flag unfurled on lap seven when Ron Coleman’s No. 72 rolled to a stop. When the race restarted, Bernheisel tried a pass on the low side of Frye to no avail while fifth-place starter Chad Davis raced in third. On a lap 10 restart, ninth-place starter Jim Yoder advanced to fourth as 11th-place starter Jeff Rine raced into the top five.
With five laps to race, Frye set a blistering pace in front of Bernheisel, Yoder, Rine, and seventh-place starter Jerry Bard. At the checkered flag, Frye crossed the line seven seconds ahead of Bernheisel. Frye’s car was later disqualified in a post-race inspection due to a racing tire infraction, and the win was awarded to Bernheisel. Yoder, Rine, Bard, and Dave Zona were credited with top five finishes.
Front-row starter Nate Stroup tore into the early lead in the pro stock feature. Stroup was followed by third-place starter Adam Campbell and sixth-place starter Nathan Long. On the second lap, the lead trio raced three-wide for almost an entire lap. On the seventh circuit, however, Long made contact with Stroup on the backstretch and was sidelined for the rest of the race.
On the restart, Stroup continued to set the pace with seventh-place starter Kyle Bachman in pursuit. Bachman made the winning pass using the inside lane through turns one and two on a lap nine restart. Original eighth-place starter Brad Mitch, who had to restart the race on the rear of the field following a first lap spin, stormed into second with two laps remaining. The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 14, setting up a chase to the checkered flag. At the finish, Bachman scored the win by just .43 of a second over Mitch, Stroup, Campbell, and Tommy Slanker.
Second-place starter John Fowler Jr. pulled into the lead at the start of the roadrunner feature. Fowler was chased by fourth-place starter Keith Bissinger and polesitter Curtis Lawton. On the fourth circuit, third-place starter Brian Johnson stormed into third and the front runners raced three-wide through turns one and two on lap eight.
Johnson took command of the field and had a close race with Bissinger on lap nine. On lap 10, Bissinger was scored as the leader by the slimmest of margins. On the 11th circuit, however, Bissinger and Johnson made contact in turn four and Fowler found himself leading the race again. At the finish, Fowler was victorious by just .22 of a second over Johnson, Lawton, Jeremy Kline, and John Schoch.

For Marks, the victory at the wheel of the BAPS No. 19M was his second career at Selinsgrove and his first in a sprint car since he won the Ray Tilley Classic at the track in May of 2013.
Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg clinched his second career PA Speedweek title by just six points over Greg Hodnett of Thomasville. Wolfe, who persevered through a challenging night that included a hard flip in practice laps and a blown engine in his heat race, was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier over the 26-car field with a lap time of 16.805.
Doug Dodson of Mechanicsburg won his first career super sportsman race in the division’s 20-lap feature and set a new track record for the distance in 7:17.57. Wayne Dadetto of Levittown scored the victory in the 20-lap 305 sprint car race and set a track record for the division in 7:00.944.
There will be no racing at Selinsgrove Speedway this Saturday, July 12. The speedway returns Saturday, July 19, with the annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Driver & Fan Appreciation Night featuring 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners. The 360 sprint car and late model features on July 19 will each pay $2,500 to win.
Polesitter Brent Marks drove into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature and was chased by third-place starter Mike Erdley. The race’s only caution flag unfurled on lap three when Danny Dietrich’s car developed a flat tire and rolled to a stop in turn four.
When the race resumed, a war on wheels unfolded at the front of the pack between Marks and Erdley, who see-sawed for the lead for several laps. By lap 10, Marks secured the front spot and began to stretch his lead while another battle unfolded for the runner-up position between Erdley and second-place starter Kyle Reinhardt.
At the halfway mark, Marks was setting the pace in front of Reinhardt, seventh-place starter Blane Heimbach, and Erdley in a close four-car race at the front of the pack. On lap 20, Heimbach stormed into second and set his sights on Marks. In the final five laps, Marks stretched his lead and posted a 3.5-second margin of victory over Heimbach, Erdley, Reinhardt, and ninth-place starter Lucas Wolfe. In the super sportsman feature, polesitter Davey Walsh led the first six laps until third-place starter Doug Dodson made the winning pass using the inside lane on the frontstretch. Two laps later, second-place starter Bobby Hockenberry reclaimed the runner-up position and started to track down Dodson.
At the halfway point, Dodson was the leader over Hockenberry, fifth-place starter Chad Trout, 12th-place starter Kevin Knouse, and 11th-place starter Carmen Perigo Jr. In the final laps, Hockenberry and Trout made a last-ditch effort to catch Dodson in traffic to no avail. Dodson took the checkered flag in a close finish by only .44 of a second over Hockenberry, Trout, Nouse, and Perigo.
Wayne Dadetto started on the pole in the 305 sprint car feature and pulled into the lead at the drop of the green flag. In the early laps, second-place starter John Braim and third-place starter Matt Heimbach dueled for the runner-up position.
At the halfway point, Dadetto held a straightaway lead over the rest of the field. In the closing laps, however, eighth-place starter Tyler Bear started to reel in Dadetto in lapped traffic. At the finish, Dadetto was victorious by just 1.4 seconds over Bear, fourth-place starter Jake Waters, Braim, and 12th-place starter Eric Parker.

SMITH BECOMES LEADING 360 SPRINT CAR WINNER WITH FOURTH VICTORY; HAUS SCORES 30th CAREER SELINSGROVE LATE MODEL WIN; LONG WIRES FIELD FOR PRO STOCK CHECKERS; BISSINGER DOMINATES FOR FIFTH ROADRUNNER WIN
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Mark Smith of Sunbury stormed from his eighth starting position to win his fourth race of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s 25-lap United Racing Company (URC) 360 sprint car main event.
The victory at the wheel of the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1 was Smith’s eighth career in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track and was worth $2,500.
Scott Haus of Hamburg scored his 30th career late model win at Selinsgrove in the division’s 25-lap feature following a wheel-to-wheel duel with Bryan Bernheisel of Lebanon. He became the ninth different late model feature winner in 12 races at the track this season.
In the 15-lap pro stock feature, Nathan Long of Selinsgrove led flag-to-flag for his second win of the season, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville took the checkered flag for the fifth time this season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. The show will carry over the bonus money that was posted on July 19 for the feature winners by Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center on the rained-out Driver & Fan Appreciation Night. The sprint car and late model features will each pay $2,500 to win. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter Derek Locke and fourth-place starter Colby Womer put on a wheel-to-wheel battle for the early lead in the sprint car feature. Womer led the first four laps until Locke secured the front spot with an inside pass off turn four. On the sixth circuit, third-place starter Cody Keller raced into the runner-up position as a suspenseful race unfolded among the top five drivers in the opening laps.
On lap 10, Locke continued to lead with fifth-place starter Jason Clauss now racing second and eighth-place starter Mark Smith holding down the third position. A circuit later, Smith powered into second and set his sights on Locke. For the next several laps, Smith tormented Locke for the front spot then made the winning pass using the inside lane off turn two on lap 15.
Smith quickly started to stretch his lead while second-place starter TJ Stutts began to make up lost ground by moving into the second spot. The event’s only caution flag unfurled on lap 24 when Keller’s car got sideways in turn one. For the chase to the checkered flag, Smith held off Stutts’ challenge around the top of the race track and posted a .59 of a second margin of victory. Locke finished third followed by Larry Kelleher, and Clauss.
Third-place starter Hayes Mattern edged out the field for the early lead as the late models charged to the green flag at the start of the feature. Entering turn one on the start, second-place starter Scott Haus powered around the outside of Mattern through turns one and two to take over the front spot.
A four-car tangle in turn three on the second circuit regrouped the field for a restart. When the race resumed, Haus held the front spot while a race for the second position unfolded between Mattern and fourth-place starter Matt Cochran. By lap five, seventh-place starter Bryan Bernheisel advanced to second and quickly closed in on Haus.
At the halfway point, an intense race for the lead unfolded between Haus, Bernheisel, and sixth-place starter Coleby Frye in lapped traffic. Haus and Bernheisel see-sawed for the lead for several laps as Bernheisel was scored as the leader on laps 15 and 16.
On the 21st lap, a multi-car crash slowed the field again with Haus setting the pace. When the green flag waved, Haus and Bernheisel dueled for the lead and the win with more side-by-side racing. At the checkered flag, Haus edged out Bernheisel by a mere half-of-a-second margin of victory. Frye, Jeff Rine, and Matt Cochran completed the top five.
Polesitter Nathan Long raced with fourth-place starter AJ Stroup for the early lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Long pulled into the front spot off turn four on the first lap and kept his racer out in front of the field for the duration of the event. Stroup, however, kept Long in his sites and started to reel in the leader in the final laps of the race.
At the checkered flag, Long was victorious by just 1.3 seconds over Stroup, sixth-place starter Derrick Garman, second-place starter Jake Buck, and seventh-place starter Kyle Bachman.
In the roadrunner race, polesitter John Schoch led the first lap with fifth-place starter Keith Bissinger advancing to second. On the second circuit, Bissinger took command of the field and never looked back. Late in the race, third-place starter Curtis Lawton made a charge into the runner-up position but trailed Bissinger by 4.5 seconds at the finish. John Fowler Jr., Butch Shaffer, and Ricky Buss rounded out the top five.

SMITH DRIVES TO FIFTH 360 SPRINT CAR WIN, STRENGTHENS POINTS LEAD; NASCAR STAR TONY STEWART MAKES RETURN VISIT, FINISHES 6th IN SPRINT MAIN; RINE HOLDS OFF FRYE FOR FOURTH LATE MODEL VICTORY; GARMAN SCORES SECOND CAREER WIN IN PRO STOCKS; FOWLER RACES TO SECOND ROADRUNNER CHECKERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sprint car driver Mark Smith has found a rhythm he likes at Selinsgrove Speedway. The Sunbury speedster scored his second win in a row and fifth of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature.
Smith’s victory came at the wheel of the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1 entry and was worth $2,500 on Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Driver & Fan Appreciation Night. It was Smith’s ninth career win in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track and strengthens his points lead in the chase for the championship.
Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart of Columbus, Ind., made his first visit to Selinsgrove Speedway since he won on April 6, 2013, and turned in a sixth-place finish in the 360 sprint car feature.
Jeff Rine of Danville held off a hard-charging Coleby Frye of Dover in a last-lap shoot-out for his fourth win of the season and 89th career at the track in the 25-lap super late model feature. Frye was the night’s fast qualifier over a field of 29 entries with a lap time of 19.452.
Derrick Garman of Loysville also had to endure a last-lap chase to the checkered flag for his second win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while John Folwer Jr. of Montandon drove to his second victory of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Kramer Cup for 360 sprint cars plus super late models and pro stocks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. The Kramer Cup, sanctioned by the United Racing Company (URC), will be a 25-lap race paying $2,573 to win in memory of Hall of Fame sprint car driver Kramer Williamson of Palmyra who succumbed to injuries from a sprint car racing accident at the Lincoln Speedway in August of 2013.
At the start of the sprint car feature, fourth-place starter Ryan Kissinger stormed around the highline of the race track to take the early lead. Kissinger was chased by second-place starter Michael Walter and sixth-place starter Derek Locke.
The caution flag waved on lap three for a four-car melee in turn two. When the race resumed, Kissinger set the pace as 10th-place starter Mark Smith took over third and a three-car battle for the lead unfolded between Kissinger, Locke and Smith.
On the seventh circuit, Locke pulled ahead of the field only to have Smith pull alongside of him and take the lead with an outside pass in turn three. Once he secured the lead, Smith checked out from the field while Locke maintained the runner-up position until late in the race when ninth-place starter TJ Stutts made a charge to the front.
On the 18th lap, Stutts passed Locke for the runner-up position and started to erode a three-second deficit on race leader Smith. Stutts quickly closed on the leader in the final laps but fell short by one second as Smith took his fifth checkered flag of the season. Locke finished third, followed by polesitter Cody Keller, and eighth-place starter Davie Franek. NASCAR star Tony Stewart started the race in the 11th position and advanced to sixth late in the race.
Time trials and a redraw placed Dylan Yoder and Jeff Rine on the front row for the start of the late model feature. At the drop of the green flag, Rine horsepowered his way into the lead entering turn one. By lap eight, Rine and Yoder started to encounter slower traffic. On a lap nine restart, several lapped cars separated Rine and Yoder. By the halfway point, however, Yoder closed the gap as fifth-place starter Coleby Frye set his sights on the leaders.
The last 10 laps of the race produced a suspenseful chase through traffic with Yoder reeling in Rine at a fast clip. At one point, Yoder was racing right on Rine’s rear bumper and appeared poised to make a challenge for the lead. With one lap to go, Yoder’s car developed a flat tire and a caution flag regrouped the field for a one-lap shootout with Frye inheriting the runner-up position.
On the final lap, Frye made two last-ditch efforts at each end of the race track to power underneath Rine but it was Rine who maintained an edge and posted a .98 of a second victory. Frye settled for second, followed by third-place starter Steve Campbell, seventh-place starter Jerry Bard, and 22nd-place starter Jim Yoder.
Polesitter Cory Long powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was followed by second-place starter Tommy Slanker on the first lap. On the second circuit, seventh-place starter Derrick Garman advanced to second and set his sights on Long. A lap later, Long’s car started to lose power on the backstretch, allowing Garman to drive into the lead in turn three.
At the halfway point, eighth-place starter Kyle Bachman and ninth-place starter Brad Mitch began to show a lot of speed and closed in on Garman. Mitch got by Bachman on the ninth lap and reeled in Garman at the front of the pack. The caution flag unfurled on lap 14, setting up a one-lap chase to the checkered flag between Garman and Mitch.
At the finish, Garman held off Mitch by just .22 of a second for the victory. Bachman, Slanker, and Matt Wilson rounded out the top five.
Second-place starter Curtis Lawton led the first three laps of the roadrunner feature until third-place starter John Fowler Jr. took over the front spot. On each of the subsequent restarts, Fowler was able to open up a lead and at the finish posted a three-second margin of victory over Lawton, Brandon Shultz, Jeremy Kline, and Dave Kamp.

SMITH SCORES EMOTIONAL KRAMER CUP WIN; JIM YODER HOLDS OFF STEVE CAMPBELL FOR LATE MODEL WIN; KYLE BACHMAN WINS 44TH CAREER PRO STOCK FEATURE
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Mark Smith ran his winning streak to to three straight on Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway as he drove past race leader Ryan Kissinger on a lap-20 restart to claim the inaugural win in the 25-lap Kramer Cup in United Racing Company 360 sprint car action.
Other winners on Saturday night were Jim Yoder (late models) and Kyle Bachman (pro stocks).
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a regular four-division show on Sat., Aug. 9, of 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners. Selinsgrove Raceway Park will present a program of go-karts and micro sprint cars on Friday, Aug. 11 at 7.
After an initial false start, Troy Betts lead the opening lap of the 25-lap sprint car feature that honored the late Kramer Williamson, the 1978 Selinsgrove Speedway sprint car track champion with Ryan Kissinger and T.J. Stutts right in his tire tracks.
On lap 3, Kissinger passed Betts on the high side of Turn 2 for the lead and one lap later, Stutts got by Betts for the runner-up spot. Kissinger and Stutts then begin a series of slide jobs over the next several laps as they battled for the lead before the first caution came out on lap 7 for Colby Womer who slowed in Turn 4.
On the restart, Stutts got a run on Kissinger and took the lead but Kissinger gained the spot right back as he drove around Stutts on the high side in Turn 4 on lap 8. Smith, who started ninth, moved into the top five on lap 10 and took over the runner-up sport from Stutts on lap 15.
The second caution of the race came on lap 20 for debris as Jimmy Stitzle spun in front of the leaders in Turn 3. Under the caution, Stutts pulled into the pits with mechanical issues.
On the double-file restart, Smith would pass Kissinger on the low side of Turn 1 to go on and lead the final five laps of the race. It was his sixth win of the year at Selinsgrove and his 10th career win, moving him into seventh place on the all-time 358-360 sprint car win list.
Kissinger held on for second with Robbie Stillwaggon, Mike Walter and Davie Franek, who came from 15th, rounding out the top five. Sixth through 10th were Josh Weller, Curt Michael, Jason Shultz, Hunter Schuerenberg and Larry Kelleher.
In the 25-lap late model feature, Scott Richwine paced the first seven circuits before Jim Yoder made an inside pass on him as the pair raced off of Turn 4. The first caution came out on lap 8 for Meade Hahn who had a tire let go entering Turn 1.
On the restart, Yoder led Richwine with Chad David, Hayes Mattern and Jim Bernheisel in tow as several cautions plagued the middle part of the race. Bernheisel moved into second on lap 13 before points leader Steve Campbell moved past him on lap 17. Campbell closed in on Yoder over the final few lap and was within striking distance on the final lap when he momentarily got held up by a lapped car.
Yoder would go on to win his 12th-career late model feature over Campbell by .095 seconds.
Jeff Rine, Bernheisel and Dan Stone rounded out the top five. Sixth through 10th were Matt Cochran, Dave Zona, Bryan Bernheisel, Tony Adams and Hayes Mattern.
Kyle Bachman raced to his division leading 44th pro stock feature win in the 12-lap main event. Cory Long led the majority of the race whiled holding off Peanut Heintzelman, Nathan Long and Brad Mitch in the early goings.
The race was slowed by three cautions.
Bachman made the winning move late in the race as points leader Mitch finished second with N. Long, C. Long and Derrick Garman rounding out the top five. Sixth through 10 were A.J. Stroup, Tommy Slanker, Kury Wray, Adam Campbell and Jamin Chapman.
Tickets are now on sale for the two-day World of Outlaws late model series weekend on Aug. 30-31. Tickets can be purchased at the speedway office on race day or during the week by calling the office at 570.374.2999

KELLER BREAKS SMITH’S WINNING STREAK IN 360 SPRINT CARS; FRYE DOMINATES FOR FIRST LATE MODEL WIN OF SEASON; MITCH RETURNS TO PRO STOCK WINNERS CIRCLE; BISSINGER SCORES SIXTH ROADRUNNER FEATURE WIN
SELINSGROVE, Pa. –Selinsgrove’s Cody Keller made a breakthrough Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway and scored an impressive victory in the 25-lap 360 sprint car feature following a season filled with mechanical woes.
The $2,000 win was Keller’s first of the season and first career in a 360 sprint car at the wheel of the Keller’s Auto Body/Trautman’s Meat Market No. 99. He became the division’s seventh different winner this season and in doing so ended point leader Mark Smith’s three-race winning streak. Keller previously won two 358 sprint car races at the track.
Coleby Frye of Dover also turned in a convincing performance for his first win of the season in the 25-lap late model feature. Frye became the 10th different late model winner this season in 15 races.
Brad Mitch of McClure scored his fifth win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature and put himself in a position to clinch the track championship, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville held off a late-race challenge for his sixth win in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will hold a $2,000-to-win tune-up race for the super late models at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, in preparation for the upcoming two-day World of Outlaws Late Model Series National Open weekend Aug. 30-31. The 360 sprint cars, pro stocks, and roadrunners will round out the four-division racing card.
Tickets for the Aug. 30-31 World of Outlaws Late Model Series National Open events are on sale now in the track office on race days or by calling the speedway at 570.374.2999. The pro stocks will join the late models on the Aug. 30 program and the limited late models will race on the Aug. 31 show.
Polesitter Troy Betts and fourth-place starter Cody Keller battled for the lead on the start of the sprint car feature. Entering turn three on the first lap, Keller streaked underneath Betts and took the early lead. Keller set a torrid pace in front of Betts, eighth-place starter Jason Shultz, and 12th-place starter Mark Smith at the front of the pack.
The first caution flag unfurled on lap six when Michael Walter’s No. 33 rolled to a stop on the track. When the race restarted, Keller kept his sprinter out in front the pack. On lap nine, Shultz passed Betts for the runner-up spot as 17th-place starter TJ Stutts rocketed into the top five.
At the halfway point, Keller began to encounter slower traffic. With five laps to race, Keller was leading Shultz, Smith, Stutts, and Betts in a high-speed chase around the half-mile oval. Betts, however, brought out the final caution flag when his car came to a stop on the backstretch.
On the final restart, Keller maintained his momentum around the top of the race track as Smith took the second spot away from Shultz. At the checkered flag, Keller was victorious by 2.5 seconds over Smith. Shultz, Stutts, and seventh-place starter Larry Kelleher completed the top five.
Coleby Frye started the late model feature in the fourth position and horsepowered his way into the lead at the completion of the first lap, when the event’s only caution flag unfurled for Chad Hollenbeck’s stalled car on the backstretch.
When the race resumed, Frye checked out from the field while second-place starter Eric Hons, third-place starter Hayes Mattern dueled for the runner up position. By lap nine, sixth-place starter Gene Knaub took over the second spot with 10th-place starter Jeff Rine racing third.
On the 19th circuit, Rine passed Knaub for the second position and attempted to reel in Frye at the front of the pack. At the finish, Frye posted a convincing eight-second margin of victory over Rine, ninth-place starter Dylan Yoder, 12th-place starter Jim Yoder, and eighth-place starter Dave Zona.
Polesitter Matt Hornberger led the first five laps of the pro stock feature. On the sixth lap, 11th-place starter Brad Mitch made the winning pass using the inside lane entering turn three. Mitch was then tracked down by 10th-place starter Kyle Bachman until Bachman’s car lost speed on the ninth lap.
Mitch went on to take the checkered flag over Hornberger, Tommy Slanker, Adam Campbell, and Cory Long. Jamin Chapmin’s car, which crossed the line in the third position, was disqualified during a post-race inspection.
Fifth-place starter Keith Bissinger stormed into the lead on the first lap of the roadrunner race. Bissinger was followed at a distance by fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. until the last two laps. On the final circuit, Fowler moved into striking position and attempted a last-ditch pass coming off turn four but came up short for the checkered flag. Bissinger was victorious over Fowler, Curtis Lawton, Butch Shaffer, and Jeremy Kline.

STILLWAGGON HOLDS OFF STUTTS FOR FIRST SELINSGROVE SPRINT WIN; RINE BREAKS IN NEW RACE CAR WITH LATE MODEL VICTORY; LONG SCORED THIRD PRO STOCK WIN OF YEAR; BISSINGER DOMINATING ROADRUNNER DIVISION
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Following a string of strong finishes at Selinsgrove Speedway in recent years, Robbie Stillwaggon of Burlington, N.J., scored his first career win at the Snyder County half-mile oval in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car feature.
Stillwaggon, driving the Quality Auto Body No. 89, held off three-time winner TJ Stutts of Liverpool for the $2,000 victory and became the track’s eighth different 360 sprint car winner this season.
Jeff Rine of Danville wired the field in a brand-new race car for his fifth win of the year in the 30-lap super late model tune-up race. The victory marked the 90th of Rine’s career at the track. Steve Campbell of Danville was the night’s overall fast qualifier with a lap time of 18.996.
Nathan Long of Selinsgrove scored his third win of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville made a last-lap pass by John Fowler Jr. of Montandon for his seventh win of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the World of Outlaws Late Model Series National Open weekend Saturday, Aug. 30, and Sunday, Aug. 31. Saturday night’s preliminary race will feature the super late models in a 40-lap main event paying $8,000 to win along with pro stocks, followed by Sunday night’s 50-lap 16th annual Open paying $10,000 to win with 358 late models on the racing card. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. both nights.
Polesitter Matt Horst and second-place starter Joe Trenca dueled for the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Trenca edged out Horst on the first lap for the lead and set a quick pace around the smooth, fast half-mile oval.
On the third lap, a 10-car melee unfolded in turn three, sidelining a number of drivers, including points leader and leading feature winner Mark Smith for the night. There were no injuries reported.
When the race resumed, Trenca led another lap as eighth-place starter Robbie Stillwaggon put in a bid for the front spot. After Stillwaggon made a pass for the lead, the caution flag unfurled for Jim Shuster in turn two. Trenca retained the lead for the restart until Horst drove by him and led the race through lap 10.
On the 11th circuit, Stillwaggon made the winning pass by Horst using the inside line coming off turn four. TJ Stutts, who started in the 10th position, showed a lot of speed in the second half of the race and powered into the runner-up spot on lap 16. With five laps to go, Cody Keller’s car stopped in turn four with a flat tire.
When the green flag waved, a chase to the checkered flag unfolded between Stillwaggon and Stutts. Stillwaggon took the win by just 1.4 seconds over Stutts, fourth-place starter Curt Michael, Horst, and ninth-place starter Mike Walter.
In the extra distance late model feature, second-place starter Jeff Rine beat polesitter Steve Campbell into the first turn for the early race lead. Rine set a torrid pace at the front of the pack with Campbell and third-place starter Dylan Yoder in close pursuit.
On the fifth circuit, Yoder made a pass by Campbell for second in turn two and began to reel in Rine. Yoder’s car developed a flat tire and mechanical problems on the 13th lap, forcing him to withdraw from the race. At the halfway point, Rine was leading Campbell, sixth-place starter Matt Cochran, eighth-place starter Dan Stone, and ninth-place starter Gene Knaub.
Cochran passed Campbell for the second position on lap 18 and quickly closed in on Rine. At one point, Cochran was in a position to challenge Rine for the lead in traffic. Meanwhile, 12th-place starter Coleby Frye stormed into the top five.
With two laps to race, the red flag stopped the race when Scott Richwine’s car caught fire on the frontstretch. Richwine escaped injury. For the chase to the checkered flag, Rine stretched his lead and posted a 1.2 second margin of victory over Cochran, Frye, Stone, and fifth-place starter Mike Lupfer.
Third-place starter Brandon Moser powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Moser was trailed by fifth-place starter Nathan Long for the first five laps until Long made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn three.
The caution flag unfurled on lap seven when points leader Brad Mitch spun in turn two. On the ensuing restart, Long continued to set the pace in front of Moser and sixth-place starter Andrew Shoop. In the final laps, both Moser and Shoop closed in on Long for a three-car battle for the lead and win.
At the finish, Long was victorious by four seconds over Moser, Shoop, Kyle Bachman, and Adam Campbell.
Fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. led all the laps in the roadrunner race except the one that counted the most. On a last-lap restart, original fifth-place starter Keith Bissinger pulled alongside of Fowler on the backstretch and raced wheel-to-wheel for the lead and win. Racing off turn four for the checkered flag, Bissinger took the win by half a car-length over Fowler. Butch Shaffer, Jeremy Kline, and John Schoch completed the top five.

McCREADIE MAKES LATE-RACE PASS BY CLANTON FOR SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY / WORLD OF OUTLAWS LATE MODEL WIN; 16th ANNUAL NATIONAL OPEN SLATED FOR SUNDAY EVENING
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., made a lap 35 pass by Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., for his first career win at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s 40-lap “Showdown on Sand Hill” World of Outlaws Late Model Series event.
For McCreadie, driving the Sweeteners Plus No. 39, the $8,000 victory was his third of the season on the World of Outlaws national tour.
World of Outlaws points leader Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., was the night’s fast qualifier over the 41-car field with a lap time of 19.111.
Andrew Shoop of Mifflintown wired the field for his first career win at Selinsgrove in the 20-lap pro stock feature.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the World of Outlaws Late Model Series 16th annual National Open presented by Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center at 7 p.m. Sunday night. The 50-lap finale will pay $10,000 to win. The 358 late models will be on the racing card in a 20-lap main event paying $1,000 to win. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
Polesitter Shane Clanton pulled ahead of second-place starter Dylan Yoder at the start of the late model feature for the early lead. At the completion of the first lap, Clanton was setting the pace in front of Yoder, third-place starter Jim Bernheisel, and sixth-place starter Tim McCreadie.
On the third circuit, McCreadie made a pass by Bernheisel for the third position and set his sights on the leaders. Then a battle for the fourth position heated up between Bernheisel and fifth-place starter Matt Cochran. By lap five, Clanton had already developed a comfortable lead over Yoder.
McCreadie soon closed in on Yoder in a race for the second spot and made the pass on lap 17. By the 19th circuit, McCreadie started to gain real estate on Clanton in slower traffic. At the halfway point, Clanton held a straightaway lead over McCreadie, Yoder, seventh-place starter Rick Eckert, and Cochran in the top five.
Eckert showed a lot of speed late in the race and passed Yoder for the third position on lap 27. Meanwhile, McCreadie reeled-in Clanton and a wheel-to-wheel battle for the front spot unfolded in traffic. On the 35th circuit, McCreadie was scored as the leader at the start/finish line and after a spirited battle with Clanton secured the lead for the duration of the race.
At the checkered flag, McCreadie was victorious by two seconds over Clanton, Eckert, 23rd-place starter Darrell Lanigan, and Yoder.
In the pro stock feature, second-place starter Andrew Shoop powered into the early lead and held off polesitter and three-time winner Nathan Long for the entire distance. Despite several restarts, Shoop kept his No. S-8 at the front the pack while Long, fourth-place starter Matt Hornberger, and fifth-place starter Kyle Bachman were in close pursuit.
The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 14 for Jake Buck. When the race resumed, Shoop held off Long and posted a convincing win over Long, ninth-place starter John Myers, Hornberger, and Bachman.

LANIGAN REPEATS WIN IN SELINSGROVE WORLD OF OUTLAWS NATIONAL OPEN; MYERS HOLDS OFF LAST-LAP CHALLENGE FOR 358 LATE MODEL VICTORY
SELINSGROVE, Pa. For the second year in a row, Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., wired the field for the victory in Sunday night’s 50-lap 16th annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Late Model National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway in the World of Outlaws sanctioned race.
Lanigan, the current World of Outlaws points leader, collected $10,000 for his 15th win of the season on the national tour and tied his personal win record with the Outlaws from his 2012 championship season. Lanigan became the track’s 12th different late model feature winner in 2014 at the wheel of the gottarace.com/Club 29 entry.
Rick Eckert of York, who chased Lanigan for most of the race and finished second, bested the 40-car field in qualifying with a lap time of 20.326.
Chad Myers of Hampstead, Md., held off a last-lap challenge from Gene Knaub of Dover for his first-ever win at Selinsgrove Speedway in the 20-lap 358 late model main event.
Selinsgrove Speedway returns to racing action at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 6, with a four division program of 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners sponsored by Foss Jewelers. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter Darrell Lanigan and second-place starter Coleby Frye drag raced into the first turn for the early lead in the super late model main event. Frye, however, brushed the outside first turn wall and brought out the caution flag after Lanigan completed the first lap. When the race resumed, Lanigan set the pace in front of fourth-place starter Shane Clanton and third-place starter Austin Hubbard.
On the third circuit, Hubbard moved by Clanton for the second spot as fifth-place starter Rick Eckert reeled in Clanton for third. One-quarter of the way into the race, Lanigan held a solid lead over Hubbard, Eckert, sixth-place starter Dylan Yoder, and seventh-place starter Tim McCreadie.
At the halfway point, Lanigan began to encounter slower traffic as the race for second heated up between Hubbard and Eckert. On the 27th circuit, the caution flag unfurled when Matt Cochran’s car developed a flat tire.
For the lap 28 restart, Eckert powered by Hubbard for the second position and set his sights on Lanigan. With 10 laps to go, 12th-place starter Chub Frank raced into the top five.
In the final laps of the race, it appeared as if Eckert might be able to close the gap with Lanigan in traffic to no avail. At the checkered flag, Lanigan was victorious by 3.5 seconds over Eckert, Clanton, Hubbard, and Frank.
Second-place starter Chad Myers pulled into the lead at the start of the 358 late model feature and was trailed by polesitter Andrew Yoder for most of the event. At the halfway point of the race, fifth-place starter Derrick Casner dueled with Yoder for the runner-up position until Casner’s car fell off the pace on lap 12.
When the race resumed, Myers led the way in front of Yoder and 16th-place starter Gene Knaub. With four laps to go, Knaub rocketed his way into the second position and set his sights on Myers. Racing off turn four for the white flag, Myers and Knaub hooked together for a moment and nearly crashed. Myers maintained the lead and went on to post a mere .81 of a second margin of victory over Knaub, Yoder, sixth-place starter Sam Gallagher, and seventh-place starter Bryan Bernheisel.

HODNETT WIRES FIELD FOR JIM NACE MEMORIAL NATIONAL OPEN VICTORY; RINE SCORES SIXTH LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN
SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Fourth-place starter Greg Hodnett of Thomasville stormed into the lead at the drop of the green flag and wired the field for a convincing victory in Saturday night’s 44-lap Jim Nace Memorial 32nd Annual National Open for 410 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $12,000 flag-to-flag win at the wheel of the Lelands.com No. 27 was Hodnett’s first of the year and 15th career at Selinsgrove and 10th overall this season in 410 sprint car racing. Hodnett joins Todd Shaffer of Millerstown as four-time winners of the Open.
Pat Cannon of Etters, who was attempting to become the first driver to win the Open four years in a row, finished in the second position.
Danny Holtgraver of Pittsburgh was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 15.991 over the 28-car field.
Jeff Rine of Danville scored his sixth win of the season in the 25-lap super late model feature. The victory was Rine’s 91st career at the track and strengthens his points lead over Steve Campbell of Danville in the close chase for the championship.
The start of the racing program was delayed by 90 minutes while the track crew prepped the saturated speedway surface from rain showers that ended about 2:30 p.m.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the final points race of the season for the 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. The 14th Annual Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 360 sprint cars will close out the season at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
On the start of the sprint car feature, fourth-place starter Greg Hodnett pulled off a breathtaking move using the highline off turn four to take the early lead while second-place starter Justin Barger and polesitter Danny Holtgraver held down the top three positions.
By lap five, Hodnett was already beginning to encounter slower traffic as he soared around the half-mile oval at breakneck speeds. A lap seven caution flag for a flat tire on Steve Buckwalter’s car regrouped the field.
On the ensuing restart, Hodnett quickly stretched his lead again over the field. On the ninth circuit, 16th-place starter TJ Stutts flipped wildly out over the fourth turn guardrail. Stutts escaped injury.
When the race resumed, seventh-place starter Pat Cannon made an exciting drive around the top of the track in turns one and two to take over the third position. A lap later, Cannon stormed into the second spot and started gaining real estate on the leader. The caution flag unfurled again on lap 16 when Aaron Ott’s car blew a tire in turn four.
On the lap 17 restart, 18th-place starter Lucas Wolfe powered into the top five and showed a lot of speed. The race was halted on lap 22 for a scheduled fuel stop.
At the start of the second half of the race, Hodnett continued his dominating performance while Cannon struggled with lapped traffic. With 10 laps remaining, however, Cannon started to reel in Hodnett and at one point closed the gap to nearly 1.5 seconds. The final caution flag waved on lap 40 when Wolfe’s car rolled to a stop in turn four with a broken nose wing, ending an impressive drive from deep in the field.
For the final four laps, Hodnett streaked around the oval and posted a 5.6 second margin of victory over Cannon, Holtgraver, Barger, and ninth-place starter Brent Marks.
Second-place starter Tim Wilson powered into the lead at the start of the super late model feature. On the first circuit, sixth-place starter Tony Adams horsepowered his way into the runner-up position and set his sights on Wilson.
The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap nine when Jim Bernheisel’s car stopped in the second turn. On the lap 10 restart, 10th-place starter Jeff Rine advanced to second and chased Wilson for the lead. On the 15th circuit, Wilson’s car blew an engine and rolled to a stop in turn four.
For the restart, Rine inherited the lead with Adams in tow. In the final laps of the race, Rine stretched his lead and posted a five-second margin of victory over Adams, polesitter Pancho Lawler, eighth-place starter Andy Haus, and seventh-place starter Bryan Bernheisel.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Jason Shultz of Carlisle finally made a break-through and scored his first win of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 360 sprint car main event at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Shultz, who won four races and the track championship last year, was at the wheel of the Horstcraft Millworks No. 29 for his 13th career win at the track.
Tim Wilson of McClure held off late-race challenges for his second win of the season at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap super late model feature.
In the 15-lap pro stock feature, Adam Campbell of Danville earned his first career win, while Keith Bissinger of Orangeville won his eighth race of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner feature.
The 2014 track championships were clinched by Mark Smith of Sunbury (360 sprint cars), Jeff Rine of Danville (late models), Brad Mitch of McClure (pro stocks), and Keith Bissinger of Orangeville (roadrunners).
Selinsgrove Speedway will conclude the season with the 14th annual Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 358-360 sprint cars at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The 35-lap Open will pay $10,000 to win out of the $35,000-plus purse. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Second-place starter Michael Walter II stormed into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the sprint car feature. Walter was chased by fourth-place starter Colby Womer, third-place starter Cody Keller, and eighth-place starter Jason Shultz, and by lap five the leaders began to encounter slower traffic.
By lap 10, Walter stretched his lead to a straightaway over Womer as Shultz advanced to third. The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap 11 when Bill Sherman spun his car in turn four. When the race resumed, Walter continued to lead with Shultz moving into the second position.
Another caution flag for Mallie Shuster in turn four regrouped the field. On the lap 14 restart, Shultz made the winning pass using the inside lane entering turn one. The final caution flag waved on lap 20 when Pat Cannon’s car rolled to a stop on the frontstretch.
Racing into turn one, Keller made an exciting pass to take away the second position with 12th-place starter TJ Stutts streaking into the third position. At the finish, Shultz was victorious by just .92 of a second over Keller, Stutts, 10th-place starter Davie Franek, and Walter.
Second-place starter Meade Hahn and third-place starter Tim Wilson dueled for the lead in the late model feature for 11 laps before Wilson secured the front spot with an inside pass in turn four on the 12th circuit. By the 14th lap, Wilson began to open up a comfortable lead over polesitter Danny Snyder and fifth-place starter Jason Schmidt.
With 10 laps to go, 11th-place starter Jim Yoder began to show a lot of speed and advanced to the second spot with 20th-place starter Jeff Rine in tow. The final caution flag unfurled on lap 22 for Jim Bernheisel, setting up a chase to the checkered flag between Wilson, Yoder, and Rine.
Yoder and Rine pressured Wilson during the final three laps of the race but it was Wilson taking the checkered flag by a mere .54 of a second over Yoder. Rine, 16th-place starter Chad Hollenbeck, and 10th-place starter Bryan Bernheisel completed the top five.
Polesitter Matt Wilson powered into the early lead in the pro stock feature. On the fourth circuit, Wilson’s car bobbled in turn two, allowing third-place starter Brandon Moser to take command of the field. Fifth-place starter AJ Stroup raced a close second but was forced to withdraw from the race when his car developed mechanical problems on lap eight while pacing under caution.
Moser led through the 10th lap, when sixth-place starter Adam Campbell made a pass for the lead. A lap later, Moser spun in turn four, setting up a four-car battle between Campbell, fourth-place starter Nathan Long, eighth-place starter Kyle Bachman, and ninth-place starter Andrew Shoop.
At the checkered flag, Campbell was victorious by just .49 of a second over Long, Bachman, Shoop, and 19th-place starter Jake Buck.
Second-place starter Brandon Shultz led the first lap of the roadrunner race until eighth-place starter Keith Bissinger stormed to the front of the pack with a pass in turn four. Late in the race, third-place starter Bob Bussey reeled in Bissinger and was the leader’s most serious challenger. At the finish line, Bissinger was victorious by 2.7 seconds over Bussey, John Fowler Jr., Shultz, and Toby Chase.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Aaron Ott of East Berlin made a late-race pass by Justin Barger of Montose, N.Y., to score the $10,000 victory in Saturday night’s 14th Annual Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 358-360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.
For Ott, driving the Don Ott Racing Engines No. 25 entry, the win in the 35-lap main event was his second career at the track, having also won the June 7 Jack Gunn Memorial. He became the ninth different driver to win the 358-360 sprint car Open since its inception in 2001.
The $10,000 first-place prize marked a record winner’s share for 358-360 sprint cars in the track’s history. Barger collected $5,000 for finishing in the runner-up position.
Jason Shultz of Carlisle was the night’s fast qualifier with a lap time of 17.444 over the 34-car field.
Saturday night’s race concluded the 2014 season at the Snyder County half-mile oval. Promoter Charlie Paige announced the 360 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners would return for the 2015 season.
The DH&L Fire Co. will hold its annual Race Car Flea Market on the speedway grounds on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Front-row starters Davie Franek and Justin Barger dueled for the lead entering turn one on the start of the main event. Franek pulled into the early lead racing off turn two as Barger, sixth-place starter Chuck Hebing, and fourth-place starter Aaron Ott were in close pursuit.
On the seventh circuit, Barger started to gain real estate on Franek while Ott powered by Hebing for the third position. The race was stopped on lap nine when Parker Evans struck the fourth-turn wall and flipped over in his sprint car. Evans escaped injury.
When the race resumed, Barger put in a bid for the lead only to fall in line behind Franek. By lap 13, eighth-place starter Mark Smith advanced to fourth. A hard crash in turn three involving Hebing and seventh-place starter Cody Keller on lap 16 halted the race again. Both drivers walked away from the incident uninjured.
On the push-off to restart the race, Franek’s car developed a serious mechanical issue, forcing the race leader to withdraw from the event. Barger inherited the lead for the lap 17 restart with Ott, Smith, fifth-place starter Jason Shultz, and third-place starter Robbie Stillwaggon racing in the top five. On the restart, 10th-place starter TJ Stutts stormed around the outside line and entered the top five.
With 15 laps remaining, a war on wheels unfolded at the front of the pack as Ott pressured Barger for the lead. On the 25th circuit, Stutts advanced to third and closed in on the leaders in a three-car battle for the lead in lapped traffic. On the 28th lap, misfortune nearly struck Ott when Shannon Fisher’s car fell off the pace on the backstretch, forcing Ott to take evasive action.
On the 31st circuit, Ott made the winning pass by Barger using the inside lane off turn four. For the final laps, Barger kept Ott in his sights as Shultz rebounded into the third position. At the checkered flag, Ott was victorious by just two seconds over Barger, Shultz, Stutts, and Smith.
