HODNETT HOLDS OFF RAHMER FOR SECOND CAREER OPENING DAY SPRINT CAR WIN
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Greg Hodnett of York drove to a convincing victory in Sunday afternoon’s 51st consecutive season opener for sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway. Hodnett earned $4,000 for his second opening day win and 14th career checkered flag at the historic Snyder County oval driving the Trone Outdoor/Eagle Steel No. 39.
At the drop of the green flag, outside front row starter Mark Smith powered into the lead and was chased by polesitter Steve Buckwalter. Meanwhile, fourth-place starter Hodnett began to reel in the leaders in traffic.
On lap 10, Hodnett passed Buckwalter for the runner-up position and set his sites on Smith. A lap later, 20th-place starter Michael Ruttkamp lost control of his car in turn four and collected race leader Smith. For the lap 12 restart, Hodnett inherited the lead with Buckwalter, fifth-place starter Fred Rahmer, seventh-place starter Pat Cannon, and third-place starter Brian Montieth in tow in the top five.
However, both Buckwalter and Montieth had tires go flat on the 18th circuit while racing in top five positions. On the lap 19 restart, Hodnett opened up a straightaway lead over Rahmer, only to have it erased again on lap 22 when Davey Sammons and Jason Leffler had tires go flat.
For the final restart, Hodnett stretched his lead over Rahmer and posted a 2.7-second margin of victory over Rahmer, Cannon, 11th-place starter Blane Heimbach, and 10th-place starter Lance Dewease.

HOWARD REPEATS IN SELINSGROVE RoC 358 MODIFIED SEASON OPENER
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the second year in a row, Duane Howard of Oley scored the victory in the Race of Champions/Alexander Family Dealerships season opener for 358 modifieds Friday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Howard found a burst of speed in his No. 4 during the second half of the 25-lap feature when he passed early leader Ryan Godown and went on to clinch the $2,500 win.
Brian Johnson of Ashland won the season opener for the roadrunners in the division’s 12-lap feature. Johnson set a new track record in a time of 5:10.507 for the feature distance.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the sixth annual Alexander Family Dealerships Icebreaker 40 for big block modifieds at 4 p.m. this Saturday, March 16. The winner of the 40-lap finale will earn $5,000. The big block modifieds will be joined by the pro stocks. Track gates will open at 2 p.m.
In the event of inclement weather, the rain date for the Icebreaker 40 will be Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m.
Second-place starter Doug Manmiller powered into the lead at the start of the 358 modified feature. Fifth-place starter Ryan Godown, who won the track’s big block modified race last June, advanced to second and set his sites on Manmiller.
On the third circuit, Manmiller’s car fell off the pace while leading. At the same time, fourth-place starter Craig VonDohren also slowed on the track. Godown inherited the lead and quickly stretched his margin over polesitter Larry Wight.
Racing off turn four on lap four, third-place starter Duane Howard drove by Wight for the second position. At the midway point of the race, Howard reeled in Godown in traffic. The caution flag unfurled again on lap 15 for Pat Ward’s disabled race car.
On the lap 16 restart, Howard raced underneath Godown exiting the second turn and took command of the field. Howard opened up a straightaway lead until a caution flag for Danny Johnson on lap 20 regrouped the field one more time.
When the race resumed, Howard checked out and went on to post a one-second margin of victory over Godown, Wight, 15th-place starter Billy Decker and eighth-place starter Bobby Varin.
Second-place starter Brian Johnson pulled into the lead at the start of the roadrunner race. Johnson was chased by fourth-place starter Bob Bussey for the entire distance. However, for the final two laps, Bussey moved within striking distance and put in a bid for the lead and win.
At the checkered flag, Johnson held off Bussey by the slimmest of margins for the victory. Corey Collier, John Schoch, and John Fowler rounded out the top five.

SMITH SCORES CONVINCING VICTORY IN 358 SPRINT CAR OPENER; D. YODER REPEATS IN LATE MODEL SEASON OPENER WITH LAST-LAP PASS; MITCH & FOWLER TAKE CHECKERS IN PRO STOCKS & ROADRUNNERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Three weeks ago, Mark Smith of Sunbury was in a position to score the victory in the 410 sprint car opener at Selinsgrove Speedway until a lapped car spun into his path and ended his efforts early.
For the 358 sprint car opener Saturday night at the track, Smith again found himself leading the pack and this time steered clear of trouble and drove the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1 to a convincing victory in the 25-lap feature. The $1,500 win was the fourth of Smith’s career in 358 sprint car racing at the track.
Pat Cannon of Etters smashed the eight-lap track record for 358 sprint cars in his qualifier with a time of 2:16.255. Cannon also turned the fastest single lap ever recorded at the track for a 358 sprint car in a competition event at 16.961.
Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown was transported to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries following a lap six crash on the backstretch in the sprint car feature.
For the second year in a row, Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove won the 25-lap late model season opener in a thrilling finish that produced a three-wide race for the victory off turn four. Yoder, a four-time winner last year, collected $1,500 for the win as part of the track’s increased purse structure for 2013.
Brad Mitch of McClure won his second career pro stock feature in the division’s 15-lap season debut, while John Fowler Jr. of Montandon drove by Bob Bussey’s disabled race car on the final lap for his third career win in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) sanctioned 358-360 sprint car challenge sponsored by Mach 1 Chassis plus a complete program of late model, pro stock, and roadrunner racing at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 6. The first sprint car challenge race of the season will pay $3,000 to win. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
The track will hold an open practice session this Wednesday, April 3, from 6:30-9 p.m. The entry fee per race car is $100.00. Grandstand admission is free on Wednesday.
At the start of the sprint car feature, rookie driver Derek Steward’s car climbed the rear wheel of another car and launched into a series of flips after making contact with the inside frontstretch guardrail. Steward escaped the crash without any injuries.
On the second attempt to start the race, polesitter Josh Beard powered into the early lead while an early-race battle for second unfolded between second-place starter Mark Smith and fourth-place starter Pat Cannon.
Smith made the winning pass by Beard by using the inside lane off turn two on the fourth circuit and never looked back. A caution for Dan Richcreek on the fifth lap regrouped the field. When the race resumed, ninth-place starter Brock Zearfoss drifted into the second turn wall and flipped over several times on the backstretch. Zearfoss was extricated from the car and transported to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Cannon passed Beard for second on the restart and closed in on Smith in a torrid race for the lead. At the halfway point, Smith was leading Cannon, Beard, seventh-place starter TJ Stutts, third-place starter Ryan Kissinger, and fifth-place starter Austin Reed.
For the next several laps, Smith stretched his lead over Cannon. In the final five laps, however, Cannon began to gain real estate and was in contention again. At the checkered flag, Smith won by just .72 of a second over Cannon, Beard, Stutts, and Reed.
Outside front row starter Dave Zona pulled into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Polesitter Jim Bernheisel and eighth-place starter Dylan Yoder quickly fell in line behind the leader. On the second circuit, third-place starter Jeff Rine spun while exiting the second turn and was able to rejoin the field.
When the race resumed, J. Bernheisel drifted into the second turn wall and brought out another caution flag. The next restart saw Zona being challenged by D. Yoder while fifth-place starter Coleby Frye, sixth-place starter Jim Yoder and seventh-place starter Kenny Trevitz raced in the top five.
By the midway point of the race, Rine was making up lost ground and passed 17th-place starter Tony Adams for the fourth position. On the 14th circuit, Rine drove by J. Yoder for third and set his sites on Zona and D. Yoder.
With each passing lap, Rine drew closer to the leaders and a thrilling three-car race for the lead and win unfolded in the final two laps. Entering the third turn on the checkered flag lap, D. Yoder made the winning pass using the inside lane while Rine tried to power around Zona on the outside. Racing off turn four, the top three drivers were almost three-wide coming down for the finish. D. Yoder came out the victor by a mere .04 of a second over Zona and Rine. Trevitz and J. Yoder rounded out the top five in one of the track’s closest ever late model finishes.
Second-place starter Brad Mitch stormed into the lead in the pro stock feature and wired the field for the victory. In the opening laps of the race, Mitch was followed by fifth-place starter Shaun Miller and fourth-place starter Kyle Bachman. The top three broke away from the field, and a close race for second unfolded between Miller and Bachman.
At the finish, Mitch was victorious by .72 of a second over Bachman, who made a last-lap pass by Miller for the runner up position. S. Miller settled for third, while Troy Miller and Jeff Ceballo rounded out the top five.
Second-place starter Bob Bussey took the lead at the start of the roadrunner feature and was trailed by polesitter Ricky Bender for the first four laps. On the fifth circuit, fourth-place starter John Fowler advanced to second and reeled in Bussey.
Bussey and Fowler broke away from the pack until third-place starter John Schoch made a late-race charge and joined the leaders. On the final lap, Fowler was pressuring Bussey for the lead and got a break when Bussey’s car lost a wheel and drifted high in turn four. Fowler raced underneath him and back to the checkered flag over Schoch, Bussey, Bender, and opening night winner Brian Johnson.

NASCAR CHAMPION TONY STEWART “SMOKES” SPRINT FIELD FOR CHALLENGE WIN; FRYE, MILLER & BUSSEY TAKE STOCK CAR WINS ON SMOOTH, FAST RACING SURFACE
SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart of Rushville, Ind., flew into Selinsgrove Saturday evening from the Martinsville (Virginia) Speedway, where the elite Sprint Cup series is competing this weekend, to race in Selinsgrove Speedway’s Empire Super Sprint/Mach 1 Chassis 358-360 sprint car challenge race.
In Stewart’s first-ever race at the historic half-mile clay oval, he made the winning pass by Pat Cannon of Etters on the 15th circuit in the 30-lap feature for the $3,000 victory. The win marked Stewart’s first of the year in a sprint car. In February, he won the DRIVE4COPD 300 Nationwide Series season opener at Daytona (Florida) International Speedway.
“It’s an honor to run here,” Stewart said in Victory Lane. “It’s a deal we tried last year but it got rained out and I’m glad we got back here tonight. The track got so wide and racey. It’s fun when you can go to a track and have a lot of room to race from top to bottom.”
In qualifying, Stewart set a new one-lap track record for 360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove in 17.168 seconds (111.053 average miles per hour) and also won his eight-lap heat race. The top two finishers in each of the four heats redrew a pill to determine the first eight starting positions in the feature.
“I was nervous when we drew an eight for the feature,” Stewart said. “Knowing that Pat Cannon and Mark Smith are up there, those are the guys you’re going to have to watch out for and have to beat.”
Stewart qualified 26th on Friday for this Sunday’s STP Gas Boosters 500 NASCAR Cup race at Martinsville Speedway.
“My pilots get a lot of third-shift flights,” Stewart commented on his hectic schedule traveling between race tracks. “But it makes it all worthwhile when I can come to a cool place like this. It’s obviously one of the most famous tracks in Pennsylvania. We got some momentum after tonight. It makes Sunday morning at the [NASCAR] drivers’ meeting a lot more fun when we can go there with a smile on our face.”
Also taking sprint car heat race wins were Cannon; Jessica Zemken of Sprakers, N.Y.; and Mark Smith of Sunbury.
Coleby Frye of Dover scored the $1,500 win in the 25-lap late model feature. Shaun Miller of Tower City was awarded the victory in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Bob Bussey of Northumberland won the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Fans will be permitted to enter the pit area prior to the start of Saturday’s racing program as part of Camera & Autograph Night.
Second-place starter Zemken stormed into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the sprint car feature and a spirited side-by-side battle for the lead unfolded between Zemken and third-place starter Pat Cannon by the third circuit.
The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap six when polesitter Steve Collins stopped on the track. For the lap seven restart, Zemken led Cannon, sixth-place starter Mark Smith and eighth-place starter Stewart.
After swapping the lead with Zemken for several laps, Cannon secured the lead on lap nine as Stewart advanced to third. On lap 11, Stewart drove by Zemken for the runner up position and set out on a high-speed chase after Cannon.
At the halfway point, Stewart made the winning pass by Cannon using the inside lane entering turn three. Once he pulled into the lead, Stewart checked out from the field and kept his Performance Chevrolet No. 14 out in front for the duration of the race.
At the checkered flag, Stewart was victorious by 2.5 seconds over Cannon, Smith, 17th-place starter TJ Stutts, and 10th-place starter Jason Shultz. Outside front row starter Jeff Rine took the lead at the start of the late model feature. A three-car melee caused a yellow flag and set up a lap two restart with Rine in the lead and polesitter Kenny Trevitz in second.
When the race resumed, sixth-place starter Coleby Frye flew around the high side and into second. By lap seven, Rine began to encounter slower traffic with Frye and third-place starter Bryan Bernheisel in pursuit.
With 10 laps remaining, Frye was in striking distance of the leader, only to have Rine spin on a lap 21 restart in turn two and have to restart the race on the rear of the field. Frye took command of the field and led the rest of the way, posting a 1.2 second margin of victory over last weekend’s winner and seventh-place starter Dylan Yoder. Jerry Bard, Andy Haus, and B. Bernheisel completed the top five. Rine was able to rebound for a seventh-place finish.
Front row starter Shaun Miller powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Miller was chased by last week’s winner and fourth-place starter Brad Mitch for the first three laps until third-place starter Matt Hornberger moved into second.
Kyle Bachman, who started 10th, stormed into the runner up position on lap six and set his sites on Miller. The race was stopped on lap seven when Troy Miller and Nathan Long crashed hard on the backstretch. No driver injuries were reported.
On the ninth circuit, Bachman drove by Miller for the lead and went on to take the checkered flag, only to have his race car fail a post-race technical inspection. Miller was awarded the victory over Tommy Slanker, Terry Lauver, Jeff Ceballo, and Tom Hartman.
Second-place starter Ricky Bender led the first lap of the roadrunner race until fifth-place starter Bob Bussey pulled into the lead. Bussey and Bender raced one-two with fourth-place starter John Schoch holding down the third position.
Last week’s winner and sixth-place starter John Fowler Jr. advanced to third on lap seven. Bussey held off the challenges and scored his first win of the season over Fowler, who passed Bender for the runner up position on the final lap. Bender, Johnson, and Schoch completed the top five.

CANNON POWERS TO FIRST SPRINT CAR WIN OF SEASON; BARD & LONG SCORE FIRST CAREER SG LATE MODEL & PRO STOCK WINS; JOHNSON BECOMES FIRST REPEAT ROADRUNNER WINNER
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Defending champion Pat Cannon of Etters scored his first win of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature on a smooth, “glass-top” racing surface at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $1,500 win was Cannon’s 42nd career at the track in 358-360 sprint car competition at the wheel of the Highlands’ Tire & Service Centers No. 3.
Jerry Bard of Shippensburg held off defending champion Jeff Rine of Danville for his first career win at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap late model feature. Bard became the third different winner in as many races this season.
Nathan Long, an 18-year-old high school senior from Selinsgrove, wired the field for his first career win in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Brian Johnson of Ashland became the first repeat roadrunner winner of the year in the division’s 12-lap race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, sponsored by Advanced Concrete Systems of Middleburg.
Polesitter Duane Mausteller took the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Fourth-place starter Derek Locke followed Mausteller in second while third-place starter Cody Keller held down the third position.
On the fourth lap, Keller made an inside pass by Mausteller entering the first turn for the lead. A lap later, eighth-place starter Pat Cannon advanced to second. The caution flag unfurled on the fifth lap when point leader Mark Smith rolled to a stop in turn three with reportedly no brakes on his racer.
When the race resumed, Keller held the lead for another lap until Cannon made the winning pass using the inside lane off turn four on lap seven. Once in front of the pack, Cannon stretched his lead to nearly a straightaway over Keller.
Sixth-place starter TJ Stutts showed a lot of speed in the second half of the event. At one point, Stutts closed the lead to under one second only to have Cannon distance himself again in the final laps. At the finish, Cannon was victorious by 1.8 seconds over Stutts, Locke, fifth-place starter Jason Shultz and Keller.
Original fourth-place starter Chad Davis stormed into the lead when the green flag waved on the late model feature. Davis was trailed by polesitter Jim Bernheisel and eighth-place starter Jerry Bard for most of the race.
While a close three-car battle unfolded at the front of the pack, seventh-place starter Jeff Rine dueled with third-place starter Tony Adams for the fourth position. At the halfway point, Bard passed Bernheisel for second and set his sites on Davis. With 10 laps remaining, Rine raced by Bernheisel for the third position.
Davis and Bard were in a wheel-to-wheel race for the lead when the caution flag came out on lap 17. On the lap 18 restart, Davis drifted high in turn one and allowed Bard to drive into the lead. Rine also advanced to second and another high-speed chase for the lead ensued.
Rine made several attempts to clear Bard for the lead to no avail. At the finish, Bard took the checkered flag by just .19 of a second over Rine, Bernheisel, Adams, and Matt Cochran.
Polesitter Nathan Long pulled into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Long was chased by second-place starter Matt Hornberger and fourth-place starter Troy Miller for the first five laps. On the sixth circuit, Miller advanced to second and attempted to reel in Long.
The first caution flag unfurled on lap 11 for two cars in turn two, erasing the straightaway lead Long had developed over Miller. With the field regrouped, Long maintained the lead on the restart, while Miller, Hornberger, and fifth-place starter Tommy Slanker raced in the top five.
Another caution flag waved with one lap to race, setting up a chase to the checkered flag between Long and Miller. At the checkered flag, Long was victorious by half-of-a-second over Miller, Hornberger, Shaun Miller, and Slanker.
In the roadrunner feature, polesitter Ricky Bender led the first lap. When Bender drifted high racing out of turn four on the second circuit, fourth-place starter Brian Johnson swept underneath him and took command of the field. At the same time, sixth-place starter Bob Bussey drove into the runner-up position.
For the duration of the race, Johnson and Bussey dueled for the lead while Bender and fifth-place starter John Fowler Jr. raced for the third position. In the final two laps, Bussey and Johnson raced side-by-side.
At the finish, Johnson was victorious by the slimmest of margins over Bussey, Bender, Fowler, and seventh-place starter Brandon Shultz.

SHULTZ, STONE, BACHMAN & FOWLER TAKE SELINSGROVE WINS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Jason Shultz of Carlisle held off fellow Mach 1 Chassis racers TJ Stutts of Liverpool and Mark Smith of Sunbury for his first victory of the season in the thrilling 25-lap 358 sprint car feature Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $1,500 win was Shultz’s ninth career at the track driving the Mach 1 Chassis/Martin’s Refrigeration No. 2. He became the fourth different winner in as many races in 358-360 sprint car competition this season.
Dan Stone of Thompson held off the hard-charging Jeff Rine of Danville for his first win of the year in the equally exciting race for the super late models in the division’s 30-lap spring championship race. Stone’s fifth career win at the track was worth $2,500. He also became the fourth different winner in as many late model shows.
The 15-lap pro stock feature win was awarded to Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove when Brad Mitch of McClure was disqualified for a wheel-base technicality on his race car during the post-race inspection.
John Fowler Jr. of Montandon drove to his second win of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner feature.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 12th annual Pro Stock 20 plus a complete program of 358 sprint car, late model, and roadrunner racing at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The Pro Stock 20 will pay $1,000 to win. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Second-place starter Duane Mausteller powered into the early lead in the sprint car feature and quickly opened a comfortable lead over third-place starter Colby Womer. On the third circuit, 10th-place starter Jason Shultz stormed into the runner up position and began to reel in Mausteller.
The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap 11 when Brian Garland’s car fell off the pace on the backstretch. When the race resumed, Mausteller and Shultz dueled for the lead while an intense battle for third unfolded between Womer, 11th-place starter TJ Stutts and seventh-place starter Mark Smith.
On lap 15, Smith advanced to third and closed on the leaders. By lap 20, the top four runners were in a wheel-to-wheel race in lapped traffic. Two laps later, misfortune struck Mausteller when his car drifted into the third turn wall and rolled over. Mausteller escaped injury.
For the final restart, Shultz maintained the lead with Stutts and Smith in close pursuit. Shultz’s margin of victory was just .49 of a second over Stutts. Smith settled for third, while Womer and ninth-place starter Derek Locke rounded out the top five.
Second-place starter Dan Stone pulled into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the late model spring championship race. In the opening laps, Stone was chased by polesitter Steve Campbell while fifth-place starter Dylan Yoder moved into third. Meanwhile, sixth-place starter Jim Yoder and seventh-place starter Jeff Rine dueled for the fourth position.
The caution flag regrouped the field on lap 11when Chad Davis stopped on the track in turn four. On the ensuing restart, Stone continued to set a torrid pace while D. Yoder drove by Campbell for the second position. At the halfway point, Rine horsepowered his way into third and the top three runners began to break away from the field.
On the 17th circuit, Rine raced into second and closed on Stone. On several occasions Rine attempted to make a pass for the lead to no avail. By lap 25, the lead trio was beginning to encounter slower traffic, setting up a tight race for the finish but the final caution flag waved on lap 26 for Jim Bernheisel.
In the final four laps, Stone protected the lead and posted a .58 of a second victory over Rine, D. Yoder, J. Yoder, and Kenny Trevitz.
Outside front row starter Kyle Bachman held off polesitter Matt Hornberger for the early lead in the pro stock feature. On the third lap, however, Hornberger’s car fell off the pace as fifth-place starter Brad Mitch took over the runner up position and third-place starter Nathan Long held down the spot.
During the second half of the race, Bachman and Mitch see-sawed for the lead numerous times through the turns. Mitch finally secured the lead in the final five laps and went on to take the checkered flag by only half of a second over Bachman. During the post-race inspection, however, Mitch’s car was disqualified for a wheel-base technicality and the win was awarded to Bachman over Long, Troy Miller, AJ Stroup, and Pete Lauver.
Second-place starter John Schoch led the first seven laps of the roadrunner race until the eighth circuit when his car drifted high in turn three and allowed third-place starter John Fowler Jr. to take command of the field. Polesitter Brandon Shultz followed Fowler into the runner up position and dueled with fourth-place starter Brian Johnson for the spot in the final two laps of the race.
At the checkered flag, Fowler was victorious by 1.9 seconds over Johnson, Shultz, fifth-place starter Bob Bussey, and Ray Rothfuss.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Eric Tomecek of Abbottstown held off defending champion Pat Cannon of Etters for his first career win at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car main event.
Tomecek, driving the Mach 1 Chassis/D.L. Heiges Electric No. 1W, collected $1,500 for the victory in the suspenseful feature and became the 358-360 sprint car division’s fifth different winner in as many races this season. The non-stop race was timed in 8:30.354.
Eight-time champion Jeff Rine of Danville scored his first win of the season and the 80th of his career at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap late model feature. Rine also became the fifth different winner in as many late model shows this year.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove won his second career Pro Stock 20 and collected $1,000 for the victory, which also marked his 37th career in the division at the track. Hayes Mattern of Beavertown, who competed in both the pro stock and late model divisions, set fast time for the Pro Stock 20 with a lap time of 24.314.
John Fowler Jr. of Montandon made a last-lap pass for his third win of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 33rd annual Jack Gunn Memorial Challenge Race for 358-360 sprint cars sanctioned by the United Racing Company (URC) at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11. The 30-lap feature will pay $3,500 to win. Also on the racing card will be the late models and pro stocks. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Front row starters Larry Kelleher and Duane Mausteller raced wheel-to-wheel for the early lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Polesitter Kelleher led the first two circuits until second-place starter Mausteller pulled into the lead with an inside pass coming down the frontstretch to complete lap three.
Mausteller quickly opened a sizeable lead over Kelleher. On the ninth lap, third-place starter Eric Tomecek began to show a lot of speed and took over second. At the halfway point, a three-car race for third took place between Kelleher, 11th-place starter Pat Cannon, and ninth-place starter Derek Locke.
On the 14th circuit, Cannon powered into third and began to track down the leaders. Tomecek made the winning pass by Mausteller on the bottom of turn four on the 15th lap. Two laps later, Cannon shot by Mausteller for second and a suspenseful high-speed chase developed in a lapped traffic.
Cannon closed in and tried both the inside and outside lanes to get by Tomecek for the lead and win to no avail. At the finish, Tomecek was victorious for the first time at the track by just .84 of a second over Cannon, 12th-place starter Jason Shultz, Mausteller, and Locke.
In the late model feature, a three-wide race for the lead between polesitter Meade Hahn, second-place starter Hayes Mattern, and third-place starter Andy Haus developed entering turns one and two. Haus eventually pulled into the lead as the field began to string out at the completion of the first lap, when Mattern struck the inside frontstretch wall and collected Matt Cochran.
When the race resumed, Haus led the way while Hahn and fifth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel battled for the second position. A lap later, however, Hahn pulled off the track as 10th-place starter Jeff Rine advanced to third.
On the ninth circuit, Rine drove by Bernheisel for the runner up position and set his sights on Haus. A lap later, Rine made the winning pass by Haus using the outside lane on the frontstretch. At the halfway point, sixth-place starter Jim Yoder powered into second and began to reel in Rine.
In the final laps of the race, Rine stretched his lead and posted a 3.4-second margin of victory over J. Yoder, Haus, Bernheisel, and Dylan Yoder.
At the start of the Pro Stock 20, another three-wide battle for the lead unfolded between polesitter Brad Mitch, second-place starter Kyle Bachman, and third-place starter Nathan Long through turns one and two. On the backstretch, Bachman pulled into the lead as Mitch fell into line in the runner up position.
The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap 5 when Hank Steffen’s car rolled to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Mitch, Long and fourth-place starter Hayes Mattern continued to race nose-to-tail behind Bachman.
On the eighth lap, Mattern did a 360-degree spin in turn four and kept racing but lost several positions. Long then lost a few spots on the 12th circuit when his car drifted into in the wall in turns three and four. On lap 16, the race was stopped when AJ Stroup’s car flipped in turn one; Stroup escaped injury.
On a lap 19 restart, Mitch’s car lost power on the frontstretch as sixth-place starter Troy Miller advanced to second. Bachman took the checkered flag by 2.7 seconds over Miller, Pete Lauver, Tommy Slanker, and Mitch.
In the roadrunner race, third-place starter Bob Bussey and polesitter John Schoch dueled for the lead on the first lap. Bussey took command of the field as Schoch spun on the second circuit. When the race continued, Bussey had to fend off fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. and fifth-place starter Brian Johnson for the lead.
With two laps to go, Bussey’s car developed a flat tire and drifted high in turns three and four, allowing Fowler to take the lead and drive to a .64 of a second victory over Ricky Bender, Johnson, Ray Rothfuss, and Jeremy Kline.

GRASSO SCORES GUNN MEMORIAL SPRINT CAR CHALLENGE RACE RINE BECOMES FIRST LATE MODEL REPEAT WINNER SHAUN MILLER TAKES CHECKERS IN PRO STOCKS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – When race leader Pat Cannon of Etters dropped out of the 30-lap sprint car feature on a lap 28 restart with engine woes, JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J., inherited the lead and drove to his first win of the season in the 33rd annual Jack Gunn Memorial Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
For the eighth year in a row, the Gunn Memorial was a challenge race between the United Racing Company (URC) 360 sprint cars and the central Pennsylvania 358 sprint cars. The $3,500 victory was Grasso’s first career at the track driving the Viper Venom/Eldreth Construction No. 25 360 sprint car. In qualifying, Grasso set fast time over the 40-car field with a lap of 17.329. He was the sixth different winner in as many races in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track.
Jeff Rine of Danville became the first repeat winner of the season in the late model division when the defending champion drove to his 81st career victory at the track in the 25-lap main event. With the victory, Rine now owns more wins than any other driver in the history of the speedway, surpassing the previous record of 80 combined wins achieved by Steve Campbell of Danville in late model and limited late model racing.
Shaun Miller of Tower City won his second race of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, holding off his father and point leader Troy Miller of Tower City for the victory.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present an open wheel doubleheader of Empire Super Sprint (ESS) 360 sprint cars and central PA 358 sprint cars plus late models and pro stocks at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 18, sponsored by Mach 1 Chassis. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
The track will also hold an open practice session on Wednesday, May 15, from 6:30-9 p.m. The fee is $100 per race car. General and pit admission is free for the practice night.
The sprint car feature started with a nine-car melee in turn two, which resulted in Derek Locke’s No. 77 turning over on its side. No driver injuries were reported and four of the nine cars were able to restart the race.
Polesitter Jason Shultz led the field to the completion of the first lap with second-place starter Cody Keller in close pursuit. On the second circuit, Keller made an inside pass by Shultz for the lead entering the third turn. Then third-place starter Pat Cannon dueled with Shultz for the second spot and made a pass only to have it called back by a caution flag for debris on the fourth lap.
When the race resumed, Keller continued to set a torrid pace as Cannon shot by Shultz for second and began to reel in Keller. Last week’s winner Eric Tomecek brought out the caution flag when his car fell off the pace on lap five. The restart had Keller, Cannon and 10th-place starter Mark Smith racing in the top three positions.
On the eighth lap, Shultz’s car blew out a tire on the frontstretch and the initial caution flag turned into a red flag when Matt Horst’s car flipped out over the fourth turn wall. Horst escaped injury.
At the halfway point, Cannon closed on Keller in a spirited battle for the lead as fourth-place starter JJ Grasso, Smith, and fifth-place starter TJ Stutts raced in the top five. On the 16th circuit, Cannon took the lead from Keller using the highline through turns one and two. Keller, however, stayed in striking distance until Grasso made the same move through turns one and two on lap 25 to take over the runner up position.
Grasso quickly began to reel in Cannon at the front of the pack. The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 27 when Dave Ely’s car slowed on the frontstretch. On the final restart, Cannon’s car lost power entering turn one and coasted around the track before withdrawing from the race. With Grasso inheriting the lead, Keller made a last-ditch effort to challenge for the lead and win to no avail. At the finish, Grasso was victorious by just one second over Keller, Smith, Stutts, and sixth-place starter Aaron Ott.
Second-place starter Andy Haus pulled into the early lead in the late model feature and was chased by fourth-place starter Jerry Bard. On the second lap, Tony Adams stopped in the second turn while Dave Zona ‘s car also rolled to a stop in turn four.
On the lap three restart, eighth-place starter Jeff Rine stormed into the runner-up position and set his sights on Haus. By lap seven, Rine began to torment Haus for the lead. Two laps later, Haus and Rine split lapped traffic on the frontstretch, with Rine making a dive to the bottom of the race track and coming away with the lead entering turn one.
At the halfway point, 15th-place starter Dylan Yoder, who graduated from Shippensburg University earlier in the afternoon, began to show a lot of speed and horsepowered his way into the third position. Meanwhile, Rine stretched his lead to a straightaway over Haus.
On the 20th lap, Jerry Bard’s car had a rear tire shred as Haus’ car lost power, reportedly due to a blown engine. For the restart, Rine had Yoder restarting behind him. In the final laps, Rine opened a comfortable lead and posted a 1.7-second margin of victory over Yoder, Brian Bernheisel, Jim Bernheisel, and Ken Trevitz.
Shaun Miller started the pro stock feature on the outside of the front row and wired the field for the victory, but not without several serious challenges coming from his father and fourth-place starter Troy Miller.
Closely following the Miller duo were polesitter Nathan Long and third-place starter Kyle Bachman. In the final laps, T. Miller made several attempts to pass S. Miller for the lead and victory but couldn’t pull it off. At the checkered flag, S. Miller was victorious by .2 of a second over T. Miller in the non-stop event. Long, Bachman, and fifth-place starter Brad Mitch completed the top five.

STUTTS & CANNON TAKE SPRINT CAR WINS; LATE MODEL CHECKERS TO BERNHEISEL; LONG AWARDED WIN IN PRO STOCKS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – TJ Stutts of Liverpool and Pat Cannon of Etters each took a victory in the 25-lap features for 360 and 358 sprint cars, respectively, in an action-packed show Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway that drew a total of 57 open wheel racers.
Stutts took his first win of the season in the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint (ESS) 360 sprint race. The $3,000 victory in the Mach 1 Chassis-sponsored event was the 16th of Stutts’ career at the track driving the Mountain View Travel No. 23. He became the seventh different winner in 358-360 sprint car competition this year.
The non-stop 360 sprint race was a new track record and timed in 8:18.546.
Cannon, who finished second in the 360 sprint race, came out swinging in the 358 sprint feature later in the night and scored his 43rd career victory in convincing style at the wheel of the Highlands’ Tire & Service Center No. 3. Cannon also became the first repeat sprint car feature winner of the season at the track. Ironically, Stutts chased down Cannon in the 358 sprint feature and settled for second.
Jim Bernheisel of Lebanon won his first race of the season in the 25-lap super late model feature and became the division’s sixth different winner. The win was the second of Bernheisel’s career at Selinsgrove.
Nathan Long of Selinsgrove was awarded the win in the 15-lap pro stock feature when Brad Mitch of McClure was disqualified for an illegal engine during the post-race inspection. Long will be credited with his second win of the year.
Selinsgrove Speedway will be in action two nights over the upcoming Memorial Day holiday with a four division show of 358 sprints, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. on Saturday, followed by an open wheel tripleheader featuring the 410 sprint cars in the Ray Tilley Classic, super sportsman, and 305 sprint cars at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. both nights.
Outside front row starter Jeff Cook powered into the lead at the start of the ESS 360 sprint car feature. Cook led the high-speed chase with polesitter Dave Ely and fourth-place starter TJ Stutts in close pursuit. On the second circuit, Stutts steered into second and began to track down Cook.
On the seventh lap, 11th-place starter Pat Cannon got by eighth-place starter Mark Smith for the fifth position. By lap 10, a thrilling wheel-to-wheel duel began to unfold for the lead between Cook and Stutts. Three laps later, Cannon advanced to third and made it a close three-car battle at the front of the pack.
Stutts made the winning pass by Cook using the inside lane entering the third turn on the 14th circuit. Cannon then passed Cook for the second position on lap 18 and began to reel in Stutts. With five laps remaining, Cannon was closing the gap with Stutts while Smith raced into the third position.
Stutts crossed under the checkered flag 2.5 seconds ahead of Cannon, Smith, 12th-place starter Robbie Stillwagon, and Cook.
Second-place starter Duane Mausteller pulled into the lead at the start of the 358 sprint car feature. After one lap was completed, the caution flag unfurled for debris on the speedway. On the restart, Mausteller continued to set the pace in front of polesitter Larry Kelleher and sixth-place starter Cody Keller.
By lap five, Keller had taken over the runner up position while both 12th-place starter Kevin Nouse and 11th-place starter Pat Cannon raced into the top five. By lap nine, Cannon advanced to third and a three-car battle unfolded for the lead. A circuit later, Cannon stormed into second and set his sights on Mausteller.
Using the inside lane off turn four on lap 11, Cannon made the winning pass by Mausteller. Once in front of the field, Cannon began to streak away while Mausteller, Keller and ninth-place starter TJ Stutts dueled for positions in traffic.
On lap 19, Stutts secured the second position and attempted to reel in Cannon to no avail. At the finish, Cannon was victorious by a convincing 4.7 seconds over Stutts, Keller, fourth-place starter Eric Tomecek, and Mausteller.
At the start of the late model feature, third-place starter Jim Bernheisel horsepowered his way to the front of the pack and led flag-to-flag for the victory. Bernheisel was trailed by polesitter Meade Hahn and second-place starter Donnie Schick for most of the event.
By lap 10, Bernheisel, who quickly stretched his lead to a straightaway, began to encounter slower traffic. With five laps remaining, Bernheisel set the pace with Hahn, Schick, ninth-place starter Jim Yoder, and fourth-place starter Chad Davis racing in the top five.
The event’s first and only caution flag unfurled on lap 23 when Hayes Mattern spun in turn three. When the race resumed, Bernheisel pulled away from the field and posted a one-second margin of victory over Hahn, Yoder, Schick, and Davis.
Third-place starter Brad Mitch powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Mitch was chased by second-place starter AJ Stroup for the first two laps until Stroup dropped out of the race while the field was pacing under caution.
When the race resumed, Mitch was followed by sixth-place starter Nathan Long and eighth-place starter Shaun Miller. On a lap 11 restart, seventh-place starter Kyle Bachman fell off the pace in turn two. On the final restart, Long remained in striking distance but couldn’t pull off a pass. Mitch took the checkered flag but was later disqualified due to a motor technicality. Long was awarded the win over S. Miller, Troy Miller, Tommy Slanker, and Hank Steffen.

SHULTZ, YODER, BACHMAN & BUSSEY TAKE SELINSGROVE FEATURE WINS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Jason Shultz of Carlisle drove to his second win of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway. The $1,500 victory was the 10th of Shultz’s career at the track driving the Martin’s Refrigeration/Mach 1 Chassis No. 2.
Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove avoided a nine-car pileup on the frontstretch at the start of the late model feature and went on to win his second race of the season and the 11th of his career at Selinsgrove in the division’s 25-lap main event.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove made a last-lap pass by Brad Mitch of McClure for his third win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Bob Bussey of Northumberland drove to his second win of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Ray Tilley Classic for 410 sprint cars plus super sportsman and 305 sprint cars at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 26. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
The speedway will swing back into action at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 1, with the annual Roadrunner 20 plus 358 sprint cars, late models, and pro stocks. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
On the start of the sprint car feature, polesitter Scott Wilson rolled slowly down the frontstretch and withdrew from the race as seventh-place starter Colby Womer stormed into the early lead. The caution flag unfurled on lap two when Austin Reed’s car rolled to a stop. Womer set the pace on the restart with fourth-place starter Larry Kelleher and second-place starter Bryan Garland in pursuit.
On the fifth circuit, third-place starter Phil Walter raced back into the third spot. Meanwhile, 12th-place starter Jason Shultz began to show a lot of speed and raced into the top five along with 13th-place starter Pat Cannon. On a lap 11 restart, Shultz passed Kelleher for second and set his sights on Womer.
Shultz reeled in Womer and made the winning pass using the inside lane off turn four on lap 13. On the 18th circuit, Cannon advanced to second and attempted to catch Shultz. At the finish, Shultz was victorious by 1.5 seconds over Cannon, Womer, Walter, and 10th-place starter Josh Beard.
The nine-car pileup at the start of the late model feature sidelined point leader Jeff Rine along with a host of other drivers. For the restart, 11 of the original 18 cars took the green flag. Original eighth-place starter Dylan Yoder, who found himself restarting on the outside of the front row due to attrition, pulled into the lead and never looked back.
For the entire distance, Yoder was chased by original 10th-place starter Jim Bernheisel. Yoder maintained a comfortable lead while Bernheisel raced a distant second. Behind the leaders, a close battle for third unfolded between Jerry Bard and Donnie Schick.
Schick secured the third position on lap 18 and closed in on Bernheisel in a race for second. On several occasions Schick pulled alongside of Bernheisel to attempt a pass to no avail. At the finish, D. Yoder took the checkered flag by 3.5 seconds over Bernheisel, Schick, Bard, and Jim Yoder.
Polesitter Brad Mitch powered into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was pursued by sixth-place starter Kyle Bachman. The leaders were in a high-speed chase around the top of the race track until the final lap when Bachman made a last-ditch effort to pull off a pass using the inside line entering turn three.
Racing off turn four, Bachman’s car drifted high and crossed the line by half of a second ahead of Mitch’s for the win. Point leader Troy Miller, Shaun Miller, and Nathan Long completed the top five.
In the roadrunner feature, polesitter Jeremy Kline led the first lap until fourth-place starter Bob Bussey powered into the lead. Kline maintained the runner up position through the ninth circuit, when fifth-place starter Brian Johnson and sixth-place starter John Fowler Jr. dueled for the second spot.
Fowler took over second with three laps remaining but could not catch Bussey. Bussey was victorious over Fowler, Ricky Bender, Ray Rothfuss, and Kline.

MARKS WINS INAUGURAL RAY TILLEY CLASSIC FOR 410 SPRINT CARS; TROUT WIRES FIELD FOR FIRST SUPER SPORTSMAN WIN; WAGNER HOLDS OFF HIS BROTHER FOR WIN IN 305 SPRINT FEATURE
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Brent Marks of Myerstown turned in an impressive performance for his first career win at Selinsgrove Speedway in Sunday night’s inaugural 30-lap Ray Tilley Classic for 410 sprint cars.
Marks, driving the BAPS/Memtec Services No. 19M, shared the front row with Selinsgrove’s Blane Heimbach for the start of the main event and made the winning pass by Heimbach on the 18th circuit for the $5,000 victory.
Members of both the Tilley and Grimm families were in attendance to present Marks with a custom trophy cup to commemorate his victory in the Tilley Classic. Tilley won four track championships at Selinsgrove during the late 1960’s driving the famous Bud Grimm Ford-powered No. 88 and remains on top of the track’s all-time open wheel career win list with 69 victories. He passed away on Aug. 19, 2011, at the age of 77.
Steve Buckwalter of Royersford was the night’s Fast Tees fast qualifier with a lap time of 16.994.
Chad Trout of Dover wired the field for his career win at Selinsgrove in the 20-lap super sportsman feature, while Mike Wagner II of Harrisonville won the first-ever 305 sprint car feature at the track in the division’s 20-lap main event.
Sunday night’s open wheel tripleheader sponsored by Icon Legacy Custom Modular Homes drew a stellar field of 92 entries.
The 410 sprint cars and the super sportsman will return to Selinsgrove Speedway Sunday, July 7, for the Jan Opperman Memorial PA Speedweek finale.
Polesitter Blane Heimbach beat second-place starter Brent Marks into the first turn for the lead at start of the sprint car feature. Heimbach was chased by Marks for more than half of the race as Heimbach began to open up a lead in the first five laps. He quickly began to encounter slower traffic as Marks raced a distant second and third-place starter Greg Hodnett held down the third position.
By lap 12, Marks started to close the gap and gain real estate on Heimbach in the traffic. At the halfway point, Marks was closing fast using the high-line and on lap 16 moved into striking distance. On the 18th lap, Marks powered around the outside of Heimbach exiting the second turn and stole the lead. Heimbach attempted to take it back using the inside lane racing back into the third turn to no avail.
Once in front of the pack, Marks started to stretch his lead but had to take evasive action in turn two on lap 20 when Colby Womer’s car did a 360-degree spin in front of him. On the lap 21 restart, Marks continued to set the pace as Hodnett drove by Heimbach for second.
In the final laps, Marks lived up to his nickname “The Myerstown Missle” as he soared to a convincing 3.5-second margin of victory over Hodnett, Heimbach, sixth-place starter Pat Cannon, and fourth-place starter Rick Lafferty.
Polesitter Chad Trout powered into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the super sportsman feature. Trout was chased by second-place starter Chris Meleason until fifth-place starter Gregg Foster advanced to second.
By the halfway point of the race, Trout began to encounter slower traffic as Foster tried to close the gap. Meanwhile, fourth-place starter Chad Criswell passed Meleason for the third spot. In the final laps, a close battle unfolded for second between Foster and Criswell until Criswell’s racer lost power on the 18th lap.
At the finish, Trout took the checkered flag over Foster, eighth-place starter Scott Geesey, Meleason, and seventh-place starter Carmen Perigo Jr.
Polesitter Freddie Rahmer pulled into the early lead at the start of the 305 sprint car feature until fourth-place starter Mike Wagner took over the front spot at the completion of the first lap. On the fourth circuit, second-place starter John Braim passed Rahmer for the runner up position.
At the halfway point, third-place starter Logan Wagner drove into the second position and set his sites on his brother at the front of the pack. A flip by George Riden in turn four brought out the red flag on lap 10. Riden was not injured in the crash.
When the race resumed, the Wagner brothers chased each other around the big half-mile with Rahmer eventually working his way back into the third position. The race was stopped again on lap 19 when George Loux flipped between turns three and four. Loux escaped injury.
L. Wagner made a last-ditch effort to get by M. Wagner in turns one and two on the last restart but couldn’t pull off a pass. At the finish, M. Wagner was victorious over Rahmer, Anthony Fiore, and Tyler Bear.

CANNON, RINE, BACHMAN & JOHNSON WIN SELINSGROVE FEATURES
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Pat Cannon of Etters had to track down Mark Smith of Sunbury to notch his third win of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $1,500 win was Cannon’s 44th career at the track in 358-360 sprint car competition driving the Highlands Tire & Service Center No. 3.
Jeff Rine of Danville won his third late model feature of the season and the 82nd of his career at the speedway in the division’s 25-lap main event. With the win, Rine took over the points lead in the chase for the track championship.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove drove to his fourth win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Brian Johnson of Ashland won the seventh annual Roadrunner 20 for the first time in his career. Bob Bussey of Northumberland was the roadrunner fast qualifier and set a new track record with a lap time of 26.150.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Paul Stine Chevrolet late model championship paying $2,500 to win plus 358 sprint cars, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter Scott Wilson powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Wilson led the first two laps of the main event until seventh-place starter Mark Smith took the lead with an inside pass in turn three.
Pat Cannon, who started ninth, advanced to second on the seventh lap and quickly started to reel in Smith in traffic by lap 15. Two laps later, Cannon made the winning pass using the inside lane through turns one and two.
Once he had the lead, Cannon checked out from the field and posted a convincing 4.4-second margin of victory over Smith, 10th-place starter Jason Shultz, sixth-place starter Larry Kelleher, and third-place starter Matt Horst.
Third-place starter Chad Davis stormed into the lead at the start of the late model feature. He was trailed by fourth-place starter Tony Adams. Following a lap four restart, second-place starter Donnie Schick reclaimed the runner-up position and tracked down Davis.
On lap nine, Schick took command of the field with an inside pass by Davis in turn four. For the next two laps, seventh-place starter Jim Bernheisel dueled with Schick for the front spots until ninth-place starter Jeff Rine stormed into the lead with an inside pass in turn four by Schick.
Despite a string of caution flag periods late in the race, Rine was able to stretch his lead on each of the subsequent restarts. At the checkered flag, Rine was victorious by one second over sixth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel, who moved into second with five laps remaining. Adams, 19th-place starter Matt Cochran, and fifth-place starter Kenny Trevitz rounded out the top five.
Second-place starter Brad Mitch pulled into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was trailed by polesitter AJ Stroup. On the fourth circuit, a close three-car battle for third resulted in contact between Shaun Miller and Nathan Long, whose car made contact with the frontstretch guardrail.
When the race resumed, Mitch set the pace as fourth-place starter Kyle Bachman stormed into second. On the seventh lap, Bachman made the winning pass by Mitch using the inside lane off turn four.
Once in front of the pack, Bachman stretched his lead and posted a 2.5-second margin of victory over Mitch, Troy Miller, Stroup, and Pete Lauver.
Outside front-row starter Brian Johnson beat polesitter John Fowler Jr. into the first turn for the early lead in the Roadrunner 20. At the completion of the first lap, however, third-place starter Bob Bussey powered into the second position and chased Johnson for the lead. Fowler then made it a close three-car battle at the front of the pack.
At the halfway point, Johnson, Bussey, and Fowler raced nose-to-tail around the top of the race track in the top three positions. The caution flag unfurled on lap 12 when Brandon Shultz’s car lost a wheel in turn four. On the restart, Bussey was struck with misfortune and withdrew from the race with a flat tire.
In the final laps, Fowler attempted to reel in Johnson at the front of the pack to no avail. Johnson led flag-to-flag for his first Roadrunner 20 victory over Fowler, Ricky Bender, Dustin Snook, and Corey Collier.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Pat Cannon of Etters and Jason Shultz of Carlisle thrilled fans with a wheel-to-wheel duel for the win in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway. On the 18th circuit Cannon secured the lead and went on to win his fourth race of the year and 45th of his career at the track in 358-360 sprint car competition driving the Highlands’ Tire & Service Centers No. 3.
Coleby Frye of Dover pulled off an exciting win over Jeff Rine of Danville with a lap 27 pass in the 30-lap Paul Stine Chevrolet championship race. Frye earned $2,500 for his second win of the season and the 11th of his career at Selinsgrove. Rine set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 19.350 (98.53 average miles per hour) seconds.
Brad Mitch of McClure powered to his second win of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while John Fowler Jr. of Montandon made a last-race pass by Ricky Bender of Jolliett for his fourth roadrunner win of the season in the division’s 12-lap main event.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 10th annual Joe Whitcomb Memorial for 358 sprint cars plus late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15. The 30-lap tribute race will pay $1,771 to win and $220 to start. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Fourth-place starter Cody Keller quickly drove into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. By lap five, Keller was leading sixth-place starter Ryan Kissinger and 12th-place starter Pat Cannon. Three laps later, Cannon took over the second position and began to reel in Keller in slower traffic.
On the 10th circuit at the start/finish line, Cannon passed Keller for the lead. Meanwhile, 10th-place starter Jason Shultz began to show a lot of speed and stormed into the second spot by lap 12. A lap later, Shultz found himself in the lead after making an inside pass by Cannon racing off the fourth turn. Cannon, however, did not let Shultz stray too far as an intense high-speed chase for the lead unfolded in traffic.
Cannon streaked back into the lead using the inside lane on the backstretch on lap 18. While Shultz attempted to keep Cannon in his sights, ninth-place starter TJ Stutts advanced to third. At the checkered flag, Cannon was victorious by 1.6 seconds over Shultz, Stutts, Kissinger, and eighth-place starter Derek Locke.
Jeff Rine drew the pole position for the start of the late model championship and powered into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Second-place starter Bryan Bernheisel held down the runner-up position while sixth-place starter Coleby Frye advanced to third on the second lap.
The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap three when AJ Hoffman and Tony Adams crashed on the backstretch. When the race resumed, Rine continued to set a torrid pace while Frye found a way around Bernheisel for the second spot.
At the halfway point of the race, Rine was leading Frye, Bernheisel, fifth-place starter Jim Yoder, and third-place starter Andy Haus. On a lap 17 restart, Frye attempted to pass Rine for the lead racing back into turn one to no avail. Frye chased Rine around the half-mile at breakneck speeds and on the 27th lap made the winning pass using the high line off turn two.
Frye held the front spot for the rest of the distance and posted a mere .98 of a second margin of victory over Rine, B. Bernheisel, Yoder, and fourth-place starter Jim Bernheisel.
Second-place starter Brad Mitch pulled into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and was trailed by polesitter AJ Stroup the entire distance. Fifth-place starter Nathan Long steered into the third position and made it a three-car battle at the front of the pack.
For all 15 laps, Stroup raced in Mitch’s shadow but could not pull off a successful pass for the lead. At the checkered flag, Mitch was victorious by one-second over Stroup. Long, sixth-place starter Shaun Miller, and seventh-place starter Kyle Bachman completed the top five.
Ricky Bender started the roadrunner feature on the outside of the front row and took the early lead. Bender was followed by third-place starter Bob Bussey and fourth-place starter John Fowler Jr. in a close three-car battle at the front of the pack.
In the second half of the race, eighth-place starter Brian Johnson made it a four-car battle in the lead pack. On the eighth lap, Fowler passed Bussey for second and reeled in Bender for the lead. With two laps remaining, Fowler made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn two. At the finish, Fowler was victorious by .66 of a second over Bender, Bussey, Johnson, and seventh-place starter Jeremy Kline.

CANNON WINS THIRD WHITCOMB MEMORIAL FOR 358 SPRINTS; RINE TURNS IN DOMINATING PERFORMANCE IN LATE MODELS; STROUP RETURNS TO PRO STOCK VICTORY LANE; BUSSEY NOTCHES THIRD ROADRUNNER WIN OF YEAR
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the second week in a row, Pat Cannon of Etters found himself in a hotly-contested battle for the lead and win in Saturday night’s 30-lap Joe Whitcomb Memorial for 358 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Cannon see-sawed for the lead with Ryan Kissinger of Bloomsburg for several laps late in the race before securing the front spot and scoring his fifth win of the year and third in the Whitcomb Memorial. The $1,771 victory was his 46th career in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track driving the Highlands’ Tire & Service Centers No. 3.
Cannon was also the Fast Tees Fast Timer of the night in qualifying with a lap time of 17.430 (109.384 average miles per hour).
Jeff Rine of Danville turned in a convincing performance for his fourth win of the year and 83rd of his career at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap late model feature.
AJ Stroup of Evandale held off several challengers for his 15th career pro stock win in the division’s 15-lap main event. The win was Stroup’s first at the track since 2010, while Bob Bussey of Northumberland drove to his third win of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
There will be no racing at the track Saturday, June 22. The next event at Selinsgrove Speedway will be Saturday, June 29, featuring the Middleswarth Potato Chips Firecracker 30 for 358 sprint cars paying $2,500 to win. Joining the sprint cars will be the late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners for a 7:30 p.m. start. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Polesitter Derek Locke powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Front row starter TJ Stutts raced a close second until his inside top-wing panel sheered off and brought out the caution flag for debris. Stutts opted to stay on the track with a broken wing and fought his mis-handling race car while fifth-place starter Pat Cannon made a charge into the runner-up position.
Cannon chased Locke around the quick half-mile oval for several laps and made a pass for the lead using the inside line in turn three on lap 12. At the halfway point, Cannon was leading third-place starter Josh Beard and 10th-place starter Ryan Kissinger.
The caution flag unfurled on lap 18 when Scott Wilson and Austin Reed tangled in the third turn. On the restart, Cannon continued to set the pace as Kissinger stormed around the top-side of the race track and eventually took over the lead. Cannon battled back and the two drivers see-sawed for the lead for several laps.
Another caution flag broke up an intense battle for the lead when Stutts’ car blew a tire on the frontstretch. During the caution period, the red flag was displayed for a fuel stop. When the race resumed, Cannon began to stretch his lead as Beard drove into the second position. At the finish, Cannon was victorious by 2.7 seconds over Beard, sixth-place starter Jason Shultz, Locke, and 20th-place starter Larry Kelleher.
Front row starter Donnie Schick took the lead at the start of the late model feature. Schick was trailed by polesitter Hayes Mattern, fourth-place starter Chad Davis, sixth-place starter Jerry Bard, and 10th-place starter Jim Yoder in the top five. By the fifth circuit, 12th-place starter Jeff Rine entered the top five and began advancing his way to the front of the pack.
On the 11th circuit, Rine drove into the runner-up position and set his sights on Schick. Rine reeled in Schick and made the winning pass using the inside lane racing off turn four on the 15th lap. Once in front of the pack, Rine streaked away from the field and posted a six-second margin of victory over Schick, Jim Bernheisel, Matt Cochran, and Chad Davis.
Second-place starter AJ Stroup pulled into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. Stroup was chased by sixth-place starter Kyle Bachman through the eighth lap when third-place starter Brad Mitch drove into the runner-up position.
As Mitch closed in on Stroup for the lead, he turned his car sideways in turn four and brought out the caution flag. Bachman reclaimed the runner-up position and chased Stroup to the finish. Stroup’s margin of victory was a mere .51 of a second over Bachman, Troy Miller, Terry Lauver, and Nate Stroup.
Third-place starter Ray Rothfuss powered into the lead at the start of the roadrunner feature. Rothfuss was chased by fifth-place starter Bob Bussey for the first two laps. On the third circuit, Bussey made the winning pass by Rothfuss using the inside line in turn two.
Sixth-place starter Brian Johnson held the second position for several laps until his car developed mechanical problems. Rothfuss was back in contention the final four laps as he pressured Bussey for the lead and win. At the checkered flag, Bussey was victorious by the slimmest of margins over Rothfuss, Butch Shaffer, Chris Hoffman, and Ricky Bender.

SHULTZ PASSES CANNON FOR THRILLINGFIRECRACKER SPRINT CAR WIN; BERNHEISEL HOLDS OFF RINE FOR SECOND LATE MODEL VICTORY; MITCH & BUSSEY TAKE PRO STOCK & ROADRUNNER CHECKERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Saturday night’s Middleswarth Potato Chips Firecracker 30 for 358 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway was a race to remember as front row starter Pat Cannon of Etters stormed into the early lead and was eventually tracked down and passed for the win on lap 21 by sixth-place starter Jason Shultz of Carlisle.
The popular victory for Shultz was worth $2,000 and was his third of the year and 11th career at the track driving the Mach 1 Chassis/Martin’s refrigeration No. 2. He became the ninth different driver to win the Firecracker race in the event’s 12th running. His margin of victory was a mere .41 of a second over Cannon at the checkered flag.
Cody Keller of Selinsgrove was the Fast Tees Fast Timer with a lap of 17.936 (106 average miles per hour) in sprint car qualifying.
Sixth-place starter Jim Bernheisel of Lebanon held off point leader and 12th-place starter Jeff Rine of Danville to score his second win of the season by just .16 of a second in the 25-lap late model feature.
Third-place starter Brad Mitch of McClure led flag-to-flag for his third win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock summer championship, while Bob Bussey of Northumberland, another sixth-place starter on the night, took his fourth win of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the PA Speedweek Finale for 410 sprint cars plus super sportsman tomorrow night (Sunday, July 7) at 7:30 p.m. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
There will be no racing on Saturday, July 13, for the track’s summer hiatus. The next four division show featuring 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners will be the annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Driver & Fan Appreciation Night Saturday, July 20.
TJ Stutts and Pat Cannon shared the front row for the start of the sprint car feature. On the initial start, rookie driver Johnny Smith, who started 20th, flipped his sprint car violently through turns one and two after making contact with the first turn wall. Smith escaped injury.
On the second attempt to start the race, outside front row starter Cannon stormed into the lead and was chased by Stutts. The caution flag unfurled on lap three when Colby Womer and Phil Walter were involved in a pair of spins in turns one and two.
Cannon set a torrid pace on the lap four restart and opened up a straightaway lead while Stutts raced second and sixth-place starter Jason Shultz began his drive to the front of the pack. On lap 10, Shultz passed Stutts for second and set his sights on Cannon.
At the halfway point, Cannon was leading Shultz, Stutts, fourth-place starter Ryan Kissinger, and 10th-place starter Larry Kelleher. In the next five laps, Shultz began to close the gap with Cannon and by lap 20 was challenging for the lead. On the 21st circuit, Shultz made the winning pass by Cannon using the inside lane off turn two. But the race was anything but over at this point as Cannon kept the suspense level at an all-time high while he battled back and even put in subsequent bids for the lead.
Shultz ultimately kept Cannon at bay and took the checkered flag by half of a second. Stutts, 13th-place starter Kevin Nouse, and Kelleher completed the top five.
In the late model feature, third-place starter Chad Davis powered into the early lead over polesitter Dave Zona and second-place starter Tony Adams. By lap three, sixth-place starter Jim Bernheisel advanced to second and began to reel in Davis.
On a lap five restart, Bernheisel pressured Davis for the lead and made the winning pass using the high line out of turn four. For the next several laps, Bernheisel set the pace in front of Davis and fifth-place starter Steve Campbell. By lap 10, 12th-place starter Jeff Rine showed a lot of speed and rocketed into the top five. Two laps later, Rine was racing in the second position.
The caution flag unfurled on lap 18 when Davis stopped on the track. On the lap 19 restart, Rine dueled with Bernheisel for the lead lap after lap. Then, on the final lap, Rine made a last-ditch effort to pull off the win using the inside lane through turns three and four; however, Bernheisel held the momentum around the top of the race track and scored the win by a mere .16 of a second. Rine settled for second while Campbell, eighth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel, and 10th-place starter Dylan Yoder rounded out the top five.
Brad Mitch, who started the pro stock feature in the third position, charged into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Mitch was chased by fifth-place starter AJ Stroup for the entire distance, while sixth-place starter Nathan Long held down the third position.
A close battle for fourth unfolded between 12th-place starter Kyle Bachman and eighth-place starter Troy Miller. On several occasions, Stroup attempted to zero in on Mitch to no avail. At the checkered flag, Mitch was victorious by 2.6 seconds in the non-stop event that was timed in 6 minutes and 17 seconds. Long finished third, followed by Bachman and T. Miller.
Third-place starter Dustin Snook led the first lap of the roadrunner race until sixth-place starter Bob Bussey made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn four on the second circuit. Once Bussey took the front spot, he quickly stretched his lead over Snook.
On lap eight, fifth-place starter Brian Johnson advanced to second and attempted to reel in Bussey. At the finish, Bussey posted a convincing victory by 2.5 seconds over Johnson, Snook, Brandon Shultz, and Ray Rothfuss.

ZEARFOSS & MATTERN EMERGE AS FIRST-TIME WINNERS IN SPRINTS & LATE MODELS; MITCH & JOHNSON ADD TO SEASON WIN TOTALS IN PRO STOCKS & ROADRUNNERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown made the ultimate comeback from an early-season racing injury when he won his first career 358 sprint car feature Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway in the division’s 25-lap main event.
Zearfoss, driving the Mach 1 Chassis No. 1W, collected $2,000 for the victory on Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Driver & Fan Appreciation Night and became the eighth different winner in 358-360 sprint car competition at the track this year.
Teenager Hayes Mattern of Beavertown wired the field for his first career late model win worth $2,000 in the division’s 25-lap feature. Mattern, a rookie this year, became the seventh different late model winner this year.
Brad Mitch of McClure made a late-race pass by Nathan Long of Selinsgrove to score his third win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature.
Brian Johnson of Ashland won his fourth race of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner feature. Johnson is now tied with Bob Bussey of Northumberland and John Fowler Jr. of Montandon for the most wins in the division this season.
Race fans, teams, and businesses contributed $3,773.00 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) fundraiser that was held at the track and was coordinated by Nathan Long of Selinsgrove and Krista Paige of Middleburg for the second year in a row.
The start of Saturday’s racing program was delayed for one hour due to rain that fell on the track at about 6:30 p.m.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a racing program of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, sponsored by PEPSI. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Fourth-place starter Duane Mausteller stormed by polesitter Scott Wilson for the early lead in the sprint car feature. On the second circuit, third-place starter Brock Zearfoss powered around Wilson for the runner-up position. Within the first three laps, sixth-place starter Cody Keller and ninth-place starter Pat Cannon both withdrew from the event with mechanical problems.
On the seventh lap, 12th-place starter Josh Beard showed a lot of speed and passed seventh-place starter Colby Womer for the third position. At the halfway point, Mausteller held a commanding lead while Zearfoss and Beard see-sawed for the second position.
Mausteller’s strong run came to an end when his motor soured on the 20th lap. For the restart, Beard inherited the lead with Zearfoss occupying the second spot. The race was red flagged shortly after it was restarted when Phil Walter and John Troxell were involved in a hard crash in turn three. All drivers escaped injury.
On the final restart, Zearfoss got a run on the outside lane and made the winning pass by Beard exiting the second turn on lap 22. Zearfoss went on to post his first career sprint car win by 3.2 seconds over Beard, 10th-place starter Jason Shultz, 15th-place starter Ryan Kissinger, and eighth-place starter Nyle Berkes.
Polesitter Hayes Mattern drove into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Mattern was chased by second-place starter AJ Hoffman for the first 14 laps until Hoffman dropped out of the race during a caution flag period for Chad Davis.
On the restart, Mattern opened up a comfortable lead over seventh-place starter Ken Trevitz, 10th-place starter Jim Yoder, and 12th-place starter Jeff Rine. During the final five laps, an intense race shaped up at the front of the pack. With two laps to go, Rine advanced to third as Trevitz began to pressure Mattern for the lead.
On the final lap Mattern’s car bobbled on the high side of turn two and just as Trevitz was about to take advantage of the slip the caution flag unfurled when Yoder’s car rolled to a stop with engine woes. For the one-lap chase to the checkered flag, Mattern held his line as Rine powered into second and scored his first win by just .42 of a second. Rine, Trevitz, Bryan Bernheisel, and Jim Bernheisel rounded out the top five.
Front row starter Jim Gearhart led the first lap of the pro stock feature until fifth-place starter Nathan Long drove into the lead. Fourth-place starter Brad Mitch advanced to second and chased Long around the half-mile oval through lap eight when Mitch made the winning pass.
Once he took the lead, Mitch kept Long and sixth-place starter AJ Stroup at bay. At the finish, Mitch was victorious by 1.7 seconds over Stroup, point leader Troy Miller, and Shaun Miller.
Fourth-place starter Brian Johnson quickly pulled into the lead in the roadrunner race and kept his No. 201 out in front for the flag-to-flag victory. Johnson held off a late-race charge by sixth-place starter Bob Bussey and scored the win by just .38 of a second. Bussey settled for second, while John Fowler Jr., Brandon Shultz, and Butch Shaffer completed the top five.

CANNON GETS 6th SPRINT WIN WHEN BEARD & SHULTZ COLLIDE ON FINAL LAP; FRYE SCORES THIRD LATE MODEL WIN IN CHAMPIONSHIP RACE; MITCH & JOHNSON TAKE PRO STOCK & ROADRUNNER CHECKERS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A fierce wheel-to-wheel battle between Jason Shultz of Carlisle and Josh Beard of Brogue played into Pat Cannon’s favor for the win in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway when Shultz and Beard collided entering the third turn on the final circuit.
Cannon, of Etters, inherited the lead and went on to win his sixth race of the season and the 47th of his career in 358-360 sprint car racing at the track driving the Highlands’ Tire & Service Centers No. 3.
Coleby Frye of Dover scored his third win of the season in the 30-lap late model summer championship race. Frye collected $2,000 for the victory, which marked his 12th career the track. Matt Cochran of Williamsport was the late model fast qualifier with a lap of 19.239 seconds.
Brad Mitch of McClure wired the field for his fifth win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock race, while Brian Johnson of Ashland won his fifth race of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner event.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present an open wheel doubleheader featuring the United Racing Company (URC) 360 sprint cars and 358 sprint cars plus late models and pro stocks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Front row starters Bryan Garland and Mike Walter raced wheel-to-wheel for the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Walter pulled ahead by the completion of the first lap and quickly opened up a sizeable lead over the rest of the field.
On the fourth lap, 10th-place starter Josh Beard passed sixth-place starter Matt Horst for the second position and started to erase the deficit between himself and race leader Walter. On the seventh circuit, Beard passed Walter for the lead using the inside lane off turn four. A three-car tangle in turn two brought out the caution flag a lap later.
When the race resumed, Beard led Walter, Horst, eighth-place starter Larry Kelleher, and 12th-place starter Pat Cannon. On a lap 18 restart, 11th-place starter Jason Shultz showed a lot of speed when he passed both Kelleher and Cannon for the third position. A lap later Shultz drove by Walter for second and attempted to reel in Beard as Cannon raced a close third.
On a lap 23 restart, Shultz pulled alongside of Beard entering the third turn and their two cars made contact, sending Beard’s car into the third turn wall and Shultz’s to the pit area with a flat tire. Cannon inherited the lead with one lap to go and drove to victory by .56 of a second over Kelleher, fifth-place starter Cody Keller, 19th-place starter Derek Locke, and 17th-place starter Ryan Kissinger.
On the start of the late model championship race, polesitter Jerry Bard powered into the early lead. Bard was followed by third-place starter Matt Cochran for the first three laps until Cochran made a pass for the lead exiting the fourth turn on lap four.
Once in front of the pack, Cochran opened up a comfortable lead as fifth-place starter Coleby Frye began to make his way to the front of the pack. On a lap six restart, Frye horsepowered his way into the second position and set his sights on Cochran. By lap 13, Cochran encountered slower traffic and was forced to take evasive action racing out of turn four only to slam into the frontstretch wall.
Frye took command of the field at this point and led the rest of the way as eighth-place starter Jim Yoder and seventh-place starter Dylan Yoder made a run at him on several restarts. At the finish, Frye was victorious by 1.5 seconds over J. Yoder, D. Yoder, Jim Bernheisel, and Tim Wilson.
Fourth-place starter Brad Mitch drove into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the pro stock feature. Mitch was trailed by seventh-place starter Kyle Bachman and sixth-place starter Shaun Miller. On several occasions, Bachman moved into striking distance and even pulled alongside of Mitch in an effort to take the lead to no avail.
Mitch continued to set the pace using the highline of the speedway and took the checkered flag by 1.3 seconds over Bachman, S. Miller, Troy Miller, and AJ Stroup. Mitch set a new 15-lap track record for the pro stock division in a time of six minutes, five seconds and .09 hundredths of a second.
Fourth-place starter Brian Johnson pulled into the lead at the start of the roadrunner feature and was chased by second-place starter Curtis Lawton for the first two laps. On the third circuit, third-place starter John Fowler Jr. took over the runner-up position and began to close in on Johnson.
With two laps to go, Fowler attempted a pass on the outside of Johnson in turns three and four only to brush the guardrail and lose ground on the leader. At the checkered flag Johnson was victorious by 3.3 seconds over Fowler, Butch Shaffer, Curtis Lawton, and John Schoch.

JJ GRASSO WINS EMOTIONAL URC SPRINT CAR RACE ON KRAMER WILLIAMSON TRIBUTE NIGHT; CANNON STREAKS TO 358 SPRINT CAR VICTORY; BERNHEISEL WINS FIRST CAREER IN LATE MODELS; MILLER WIRES FIELD FOR PRO STOCK WIN
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J., scored an emotional victory Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in the 25-lap URC 360 sprint car feature on a night filled with tributes to the late legendary driver Kramer Williamson who died last weekend from injuries he sustained in a URC-sanctioned race at Lincoln Speedway last Saturday.
The win for Grasso, the points leader, was his third of the year and second this season at Selinsgrove at the wheel of the Viper Venom/Eldreth Construction No. 25, which was a Kramer Kraft sprint car manufactured by Williamson’s chassis shop.
Fans, crew members, and drivers came out dressed in their pink shirts and apparel to honor Williamson and his famous “Pink Panther” No. 73. The Williamson family, wife Sharon, son Kurt, and daughter Felecia, joined Grasso in Victory Lane as part of Saturday’s tribute.
Pat Cannon of Etters had his Highland’s Tire & Service Centers No. 3 358 sprint car in overdrive as he rocketed to his seventh win of the year in the division’s 25-lap feature.
Bryan Bernheisel of Lebanon drove to his first career super late model win in the division’s 25-lap feature, while Shaun Miller of Tower City won his third 15-lap pro stock feature of the season.
In the URC feature, second-place starter Dan Mazy pulled into the early lead but was passed by polesitter Randy West at the completion of the second lap. On the fourth lap, third-place starter Davie Franek powered into second. Four laps later, seventh-place starter JJ Grasso advanced to third as 12th-place starter Mark Smith moved into fourth.
A suspenseful four-car battle unfolded at the front of the pack between West, Franek, Grasso and Smith. On a lap 13 restart, Grasso slid into the second spot and set his sights on West as Smith moved into the third position. On the 17th lap, Grasso made the winning pass using the inside line down the frontstretch.
The event’s final caution flag unfurled with one lap to go when Josh Weller’s car stopped on the backstretch. On the restart, Grasso drove to a half of a second margin of victory over Smith, West, Chad Trout, and Franek.
At the start of the 358 sprint car feature, polesitter Jessica Anderson led the field to the green flag. On lap two, a four-car tangle in turns one and two resulted in a flip by Shannon Fisher. All drivers escaped injury. When the race resumed, sixth-place starter Ryan Kissinger made a pass for the lead in turn two.
By the completion of the fifth lap, Kissinger was leading second-place starter Scott Wilson, eighth-place starter Derek Locke, 12th-place starter Pat Cannon in close battle at the front of the pack.
On the eighth lap Cannon advanced to second and started challenging Kissinger for the lead. Three laps later, Kissinger and Cannon see-sawed for the lead for several laps. Cannon finally secured the lead on lap 12 with an inside pass through turns three and four. Despite heavy traffic in the final laps of the race, Cannon posted a 4.8 second margin of victory over Kissinger, Locke, Jason Shultz, and Josh Beard.
Second-place starter Hayes Mattern led fourth-place starter Dave Zona for the first six laps. On the seventh circuit, Mattern bobbled in turn two and allowed Zona to take command of the field. By the 10th circuit, 10th-place starter Jim Yoder advanced to second as third-place starter Chris Shuey and eighth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel made it a tight four-car battle at the front of the pack.
On the 16th circuit, B. Bernheisel made a powerhouse move using the inside lane in turn two and took the lead. In the final laps, 11th-place starter Jeff Rine showed a lot of speed and took over the runner-up position. Rine started to track down B. Bernheisel but came up short at the finish. B. Bernheisel was victorious by 5.8 seconds over Rine, Yoder, Zona, and seventh-place starter Matt Cochran.
After two attempts to start the pro stock feature, original sixth-place starter Shaun Miller pulled into the lead and kept his No. 115-S out in front of the pack for the entire distance. Miller was chased by fifth-place starter AJ Stroup all the way to the finish while seventh-place starter Kyle Bachman raced a close third.
At the finish, Miller was victorious by 2.4 seconds over Stroup, Bachman, Troy Miller, and Brad Mitch.

CANNON, RINE, MITCH & JOHNSON SCORE SATURDAY NIGHT WINS AT SELINSGROVE
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Pat Cannon of Etters made a late-race pass by Scott Wilson of Scranton for his eighth win of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature.
The victory marked Cannon’s 49th career at Selinsgrove in 358-360 sprint car racing driving the Highlands’ Tire & Service Center No. 3.
Jeff Rine of Danville drove to his fifth win of the year in the 25-lap super late model feature. The victory was the 84th of Rine’s career at the track.
Brad Mitch of McClure powered to his sixth win of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Brian Johnson of Ashland also steered to his sixth victory of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, sponsored by PEPSI. The pro stocks will race in a $500-to-win championship and the late models will be featured in a 30-lap World of Outlaws (WoO) tune-up event paying $2,000 to win with time trials in preparation for the upcoming two-day WoO-sanctioned Late Model National Open on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
Polesitter Scott Wilson powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Wilson was chased by second-place starter Duane Mausteller and third-place starter Phil Walter. On the third lap, 10th-place starter Pat Cannon advanced to third and quickly closed in on Mausteller in a race for second.
Cannon made the pass for the runner-up position on lap seven and set his sights on Wilson. At the halfway point, Wilson was leading Cannon, Mausteller, seventh-place starter Mark Smith, and eighth-place starter Josh Beard.
On lap 16, Cannon raced underneath Wilson for the lead in turns one and two only to have Wilson reclaim the front spot in turns three and four when the leaders were forced to take evasive action for a spun car. When the race resumed, Cannon rocketed into the lead with an outside pass in turn two.
The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 21, setting up a chase to the checkered flag. Cannon streaked away from the field and posted a 3.5-second margin of victory over Wilson, Smith, Beard, and ninth-place starter Jason Shultz.
Veteran racer Scott Haus started on the pole in the late model feature and stormed into the early lead. On the second circuit, third-place starter Chris Shuey passed second-place starter Hayes Mattern for the runner-up position.
On a lap nine restart, Shuey put in a bid for the lead and made a pass by Haus using the inside line. Two laps later, seventh-place starter Matt Cochran powered into second while 11th-place starter Jeff Rine moved into the third position.
On the 14th circuit, Rine made the winning pass by Shuey using the inside lane off turn four. By lap 18, 12th-place starter Bryan Bernheisel began to show a lot of speed and took over the third position. Rine pulled away from the field and scored a 5.5-second victory over B. Bernheisel, who got by Shuey for second on the final lap. Shuey, Cochran, and ninth-place starter Jim Bernheisel rounded out the top five.
Front row starter Jake Buck led the first lap of the pro stock feature. Racing through turn two on the second circuit, Buck’s car bobbled and allowed fourth-place starter Tommy Slanker to take command of the field.
Slanker held the lead while a torrid battle for the top five spots unfolded behind him between seventh-place starter AJ Stroup, sixth-place starter Brad Mitch, eighth-place starter Shaun Miller, and ninth-place starter Kyle Bachman.
Mitch eventually horsepowered his way into the runner-up position and made the winning pass by Slanker using the inside lane off turn four on the fourth lap. Stroup eventually took over the second position and Bachman made a late-race charge into the third spot.
At the finish, Mitch was victorious by .98 of a second over Stroup, Bachman, S. Miller, and point leader Troy Miller in the non-stop race.
Second-place starter John Schoch led the first three laps of the roadrunner feature until he spun sideways in turn two on a lap four restart. Sixth-place starter Brian Johnson inherited the lead and pulled away from the field.
In the final laps, fifth-place starter Bob Bussey, who had to rejoin the race on the back of the pack, pressured 11th-place starter Ken Schreffler for the runner-up position and made a pass for the spot on lap 10. At the finish, Johnson was victorious by 5.5 seconds over Bussey, Schreffler, Butch Shaffer, and Chris Hoffman.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Jason Shultz of Carlisle drove from his 11th starting position to win his fourth race of the season in Saturday night’s non-stop 25-lap 358 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Shultz, who is a close second in the season point standings to Pat Cannon of Etters in the chase for the track championship, was driving the Mach 1 Chassis No. 2 for his 15th career win at the track. The race, short of a new track record, was timed in eight minutes and 12 seconds.
Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove scored a flag-to-flag victory in the 30-lap late model tune-up race for the upcoming World of Outlaws showdown. Yoder collected $2,000 for his third win of the year. Matt Cochran of Williamsport was the night’s fast qualifier with lap time of 19.027.
Brad Mitch has become the man to beat in the pro stocks in recent weeks as the McClure driver recorded his seventh win of the season in the division’s 15-lap feature.
Bob Bussey of Northumberland returned to Victory Lane for his fifth win of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the World of Outlaws Late Model Series 15th annual National Open Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Saturday night’s preliminary will feature the late models in a 40-lap main event paying $8,000 to win plus pro stocks. The series returns Sunday night for the 50-lap Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center National Open finale paying $10,000 to win plus limited late models (steel block bandit rules). Track gates will open at 4 p.m. and qualifying will start at 7 p.m. both nights.
Polesitter Mike Walter stormed into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature and was chased by second-place starter Scott Wilson. By lap six, fourth-place starter Matt Horst was challenging Wilson for the runner-up position and made a pass for the position a lap later. Meanwhile, 11th-place starter Jason Shultz was working his way into the top five.
On the 14th circuit, Shultz passed Horst for the second position and set his sights on M. Walter at the front of the pack. Late in the race, Shultz began to reel in M. Walter in traffic as the race continued without a caution flag. On the 20th lap, Shultz made the winning pass by M. Walter using the inside lane racing off turn four.
With two laps to go, 12th-place starter Pat Cannon rocketed into second and started to gain real estate on Shultz. At the finish, Shultz was victorious by 2.6 seconds over Cannon, 10th-place starter TJ Stutts, M. Walter, and Horst.
Outside front row starter Dylan Yoder powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. D. Yoder led over fourth-place starter Matt Cochran and third-place starter Jim Bernheisel in the early laps of the race. The race’s first caution flag unfurled on lap eight when Jim Yoder stopped on the backstretch.
When the race resumed, D. Yoder stretched his lead while J. Bernheisel took over the second position. A lap later the caution flag came out when Cochran’s car fell off the pace on the frontstretch. On the ensuing restart, D. Yoder was in command of the field while J. Bernheisel and ninth-place starter Bryan Bernheisel dueled for the runner-up position. By lap 11, eighth-place starter Jeff Rine advanced to fourth, only to withdraw from the race with engine woes on lap 25.
At the finish, D. Yoder took the checkered flag by 3.9 seconds over J. Bernheisel, B. Bernheisel, seventh-place starter Coleby Frye, and fifth-place starter Chad Hollenbeck.
Third-place starter Jake Buck led the first lap of the pro stock feature. Racing out of turn four on the second circuit, eighth-place starter Brad Mitch drove underneath Buck for the lead. Once in front of the pack, Mitch opened up a solid lead over ninth-place starter Shaun Miller 10th-place starter Kyle Bachman.
For several laps, a torrid battle unfolded for the runner-up position between S. Miller, Bachman, seventh-place starter Nathan Long, and 12th-place starter Troy Miller. On a lap eight restart, S. Miller raced into the first turn, made contact with the guardrail, and barrel rolled several times in his pro stock. S. Miller escaped injury.
When the race resumed, Mitch set the pace with Bachman and T. Miller in pursuit. At the finish, Mitch was victorious by two seconds over Bachman, T. Miller, Jim Gearhart, and Pete Lauver.
On the start of the roadrunner feature, fourth-place starter Bob Bussey drove underneath second-place starter Ricky Bender exiting the second turn to take the early lead. Bussey kept his No. 76 out in front of the field for all 12 laps and scored the victory by 3.7 seconds over Bender, John Fowler Jr., point leader Brian Johnson, and Brandon Shultz.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills turned in a dominating performance for his first career victory at Selinsgrove Speedway Saturday night in the inaugural 40-lap “Showdown on Sand Hill” World of Outlaws Late Model Series event.
Satterlee, who became the ninth different late model winner at the track this season, earned $8,000 for his second career win with the World of Outlaws and sixth overall victory in 2013 at the wheel of the No. 22.
Jeff Rine of Danville was the Fast Tees Fast Qualifier over a field of 35 super late models with a lap of 19.266.
Nathan Long of Selinsgrove won his third race of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature.
The World of Outlaws Late Model Series returns to Selinsgrove Speedway tomorrow (Sunday) night in the 15th Annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Late Model National Open. The 50-lap A-main will pay $10,000 to win and $700 to start. Joining the super late models on the racing card will be the limited late models at 7 p.m. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
Polesitter and defending World of Outlaws champion Darrell Lanigan and second-place starter Gregg Satterlee dueled for the lead on the first lap of the main event. Lanigan pulled into the early lead with Satterlee in pursuit. By lap five, fifth-place starter Jeff Rine stormed into third and set his sights on the leaders.
At the quarter-way point of the race, Lanigan led over Satterlee, Rine, fourth-place starter Vic Coffey, and eighth-place starter Josh Richards. On the 15th circuit, a side-by-side battle unfolded again for the lead between Lanigan and Satterlee. A lap later, Satterlee took command of the field as Lanigan’s car slowed on the backstretch, bringing out the event’s first caution flag.
On the lap 17 restart, Coffey passed Rine for second. For the rest of the event, Richards chased Rine around the lightning-fast half-mile oval for the third position. With 10 laps to race, Satterlee began to encounter slower traffic but had already developed a straightaway lead. At the same time, Richards raced with Rine for third while seventh-place starter Rick Eckert tormented sixth-place starter Tim McCreadie for a top five position.
At the finish, Satterlee was victorious by 2.2 seconds over Coffey, Rine, Richards, and Eckert.
Polesitter Rob Baker led the first three laps of the pro stock feature until sixth-place starter Nathan Long pulled into the lead. Long was closely chased by 10th-place starter Troy Miller and eighth-place starter AJ Stroup for most of the event.
On the fourth circuit, current point leader Kyle Bachman and leading feature winner Brad Mitch got caught up in a tangle. When the race resumed, Long continued to set the pace as Miller and Stroup raced in his shadow. In the final laps, Mitch made a rebound from the rear of the field and drove into second on the final lap.
At the finish, Long was victorious by just .52 of a second over Mitch, T. Miller, Stroup, and Shaun Miller.

LANIGAN DOMINATES SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY WORLD OF OUTLAWS LATE MODEL NATIONAL OPEN FOR $10,000 VICTORY; KNAUB WINS LIMITED LATE MODEL FEATURE
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Defending World of Outlaws champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., rebounded from Saturday night’s overheating issues with his No. 29 race car and drove to a convincing victory in Sunday night’s 15th annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Late Model National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $10,000 win came in front of a large crowd and was Lanigan’s first career at Selinsgrove and his 10th on the national tour. He became the track’s 10th different super late model feature winner this season.
Shane Clanton of Zebulan, Ga., was the night’s fast qualifier over a field of 36 super late models with a lap time of 19.244. This year’s race marked the first time the National Open was sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
Gene Knaub of Dover also won the first race of his career at Selinsgrove and his 16th overall this season in the 20-lap limited late model feature.
The entire racing program was completed by 9:45 p.m. as both feature events went non-stop on the smooth half-mile clay oval.
Selinsgrove Speedway returns to racing action at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 7, with a four division show of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners sponsored by Insinger Performance Products. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
On the initial start of the Late Model National Open, the caution flag quickly unfurled when 12th-place starter Chub Frank slowed on the backstretch. For the complete restart, second-place starter Rick Eckert stormed into the lead with polesitter Eric Wells in pursuit. By the completion of lap three, fourth-place starter Darrell Lanigan advanced to third.
On the seventh circuit, Lanigan moved into the second position and set his sights on Eckert. By lap 13, Eckert and Lanigan began to encounter slower traffic in their race for the lead. A lap later, Lanigan made the winning pass by Eckert using the outside lane in turn two.
At lap 20, Lanigan was leading Eckert, third-place starter Dan Stone, fifth-place starter Shane Clanton, and 10th-place starter Josh Richards. Clanton passed Stone for the third position on lap 23 and on lap 24 Richards also got by Stone for the fourth position. With 20 laps remaining, sixth-place starter Matt Cochran began to show a lot of speed and drove into the top five.
In the final 10 laps of the race, Lanigan stretched his lead over Eckert, Richards, Cochran, and Clanton. Cochran completed a pass by Richards for the third spot on lap 47. At the checkered flag, Lanigan was victorious by 2.8 seconds over Eckert, Cochran, Richards, and Clanton.
Polesitter Jake Jones pulled into the lead at the start of the limited late model feature. At the completion of lap two, second-place starter Denny Bonebrake took command of the field for the next two laps. On the fourth circuit, fourth-place starter Gene Knaub made a run at the lead using the inside lane into turn one to take over the front position.
Once in front of the pack, Knaub opened up a lead over Bonebrake. At the half point of the race, Knaub was leading Bonebrake, seventh-place starter Chad Myers, eighth-place starter Robbie Black, and third-place starter Tommy Slanker.
With five laps remaining, Knaub began to encounter slower traffic and opened up a straightaway lead. At the finish, Knaub was victorious by five seconds over Myers, Bonebrake, Black, and sixth-place starter JR Rodriquez.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Cody “The Codeman” Keller discovered the bottom lane was the fast way around Selinsgrove Speedway Saturday night when the young Selinsgrove chauffer powered to his first win of the season in the 25-lap 358 sprint car feature.
Keller was driving the Selinsgrove Ford/Trautman’s Meat Market/Keller’s Auto Body No. 99K for his second career sprint car victory and became the ninth different winner in 358-360 sprint car racing at the track this season.
Points leader Pat Cannon of Etters and Phil Walter of McClure were both sidelined for the evening following a violent double sprint car flip in turn one at the start of the second heat. Both drivers escaped injury.
Jeff Rine of Danville powered to his sixth win of the year and the 85th of his career at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap late model feature.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove won his fifth race of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Brian Johnson of Ashland notched his seventh victory of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Jim Nace Memorial 31st Annual Selinsgrove Ford National Open for 410 sprint cars plus super late models at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. The 44-lap Open will pay $12,000 to win and $700 to start the speedway’s crown jewel event. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
On the second attempt to start the sprint car feature, original third-place starter Duane Mausteller took the early lead with second-place starter Scott Wilson and fifth-place starter Cody Keller in close pursuit. Keller drove by Wilson for the second position on the second circuit and began to reel in Mausteller.
On the seventh circuit, Keller made his initial pass by Mausteller for the lead using the inside lane in turns one and two. Mausteller, however, fought back as he and Keller see-sawed for the lead for several laps in a suspenseful race at the front of the pack. On lap nine, seventh-place starter Mark Smith began to show a lot of speed and drove into the second position.
While Keller was driving the bottom of the race track to perfection, Smith was keeping the leader in his sights using the high line around the speedway. By lap 18, Keller began to encounter slower traffic and managed to hold onto the lead while Smith appeared to be gaining on a wide open race track around the top.
The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 22 when Johnny Smith’s sprint car stopped on the track. On the restart, Keller protected the lead on the bottom while Smith and Mausteller dueled for the second position again. At the checkered flag, Keller was victorious by 2.5 seconds over Smith, Mausteller, 11th-place starter Derek Locke, and 12th-place starter Jason Shultz.
Polesitter Hayes Mattern powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature and was trailed by second-place starter Pancho Lawler. On the first lap, sixth-place starter Matt Cochran quickly advanced to third and then moved into the second spot.
Racing down the backstretch on lap five, Cochran pulled into the lead using the inside lane. Three laps later, 12th-place starter Jeff Rine moved into the third position behind Cochran and Mattern. By lap 10, Rine was in second and closing on Cochran in traffic.
The late model race was stopped on lap 15 for a multi-car pileup in turn three that resulted in a serious fire on Jim Yoder’s No. 27 late model. All drivers escaped injury.
When the race resumed, Rine went to the outside of Cochran and made the winning pass on the backstretch. Once in front of the pack, Rine began to stretch his lead. At the checkered flag, Rine was victorious by 1.8 seconds over Cochran, Bryan Bernheisel, Dylan Yoder, and Coleby Frye.
Third-place starter Jim Gearhart led the first three laps of the pro stock feature until fifth-place starter Nathan Long made an inside pass in turn two to take command of the field. Long’s lead was short-lived as ninth-place starter Kyle Bachman stole the front spot entering turn one on a lap five restart.
Eighth-place starter Brad Mitch soon advanced to second and set his sights on Bachman. A close two-car battle for the lead unfolded between Bachman and Mitch. On the final restart on lap 12, Mitch remained in striking distance but Bachman posted the victory by just half of a second. Rounding out the top five were Long, points leader Troy Miller, and AJ Stroup.
Brian Johnson stormed from his sixth starting position and pulled into the early lead in the roadrunner feature. Johnson was chased by polesitter Brandon Shultz until fifth-place starter Bob Bussey took over the second postion on lap three.
For the remaining laps, Johnson was pressured by Bussey for the lead. The final caution flag unfurled with two laps remaining, setting up a chase to the checkered flag between Johnson and Bussey, who made several attempts to snag the lead to no avail. At the finish, Johnson was victorious by just .22 of a second over Bussey, John Fowler Jr., Shultz, and Butch Shaffer.

CANNON WIRES FIELD FOR THIRD STRAIGHT JIM NACE MEMORIAL NATIONAL OPEN VICTORY; COCHRAN SCORES FIRST LATE MODEL WIN OF SEASON
SELINSGROVE,Pa. – Pat Cannon of Etters turned in an electrifying performance for his third straight win in the Jim Nace Memorial 31st Annual National Open for 410 sprint cars Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Cannon, at the wheel of the Highlands’ Tire & Service Centers No. 3, led all 44 laps and earned $13,936 for the prestigious victory over former five-time Open winner Fred Rahmer of Salfordville, who reeled in Cannon in the final laps for a suspenseful finish.
Pulling off the hat trick, Cannon became only the third driver to win three consecutive National Open victories at the track, joining the late Maynard Yingst of Linglestown (1983-85) and Rahmer (1995-97) on the elite list.
Greg Hodnett of York was the Fast Tees Fast Qualifier over a field of 31 410 sprint cars with a lap time of 16.106 (119 average mph) on the smooth, fast half-mile oval. The Bulldog Coal Co. heats were won by Danny Dietrich of Aspers, Brian Leppo of York, and Rahmer.
Matt Cochran of Williamsport won his first race of the season at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap super late model feature.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the final points race of the season for the 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, sponsored by Foss Jewelers. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
With former three-time Open winner Lance Dewease starting on the pole and two-time defending Open winner Pat Cannon starting second, it was Cannon who won the battle for the early lead into turn one at the start of the Jim Nace Memorial.
Cannon was chased by sixth-place starter Brian Leppo while Dewease, third-place starter Greg Hodnett, and fifth-place starter Stevie Smith raced in the top five. By lap seven, the leaders began to encounter slower traffic. A lap later, Cannon took evasive action in turn two when another car got partially sideways in front of him. Cannon’s close call in turn two allowed Leppo to gain valuable real estate and a close race for the lead ensued.
The first segment went non-stop and Cannon was leading Leppo by 1.6 seconds at the scheduled break on lap 24. Leppo, however, was forced to withdraw from the race with motor woes during the fuel stop. When the raced resumed on lap 25, Cannon continued to set the pace in front of Dewease. The race’s only caution flag unfurled on lap 26 when Danny Dietrich’s sprint car fell off the pace.
On lap 30, original fourth-place starter Fred Rahmer began to show a lot of speed and passed Dewease for the runner-up position using the inside lane in turn three. A suspenseful high-speed chase unfolded in traffic for the next 14 laps as Rahmer steadily began to reel-in Cannon and was at one point within only three car-lengths of the leader. Rahmer’s last-ditch effort to win a sixth National Open came up short as Cannon took the checkered flag in the race for the third year in a row by 1.6 seconds.
Rahmer finished second followed by Dewease, Hodnett, and Smith in the top five.
Polesitter Hayes Mattern led the first two laps of the late model feature until the rookie got sideways in turn two on a lap three restart. When the race resumed, third-place starter Pancho Lawler took over the lead. However, Lawler’s lead was short-lived when a penalty was assessed for two consecutive false starts, putting original eighth-place starter Matt Cochran into the lead.
The race was stopped on lap four for a multi-car crash on the backstretch. On the lap five restart, 11th-place starter Coleby Frye passed fourth-place starter Andy Haus for the runner up position and set his sights on Cochran.
Despite several restarts in the caution-plagued event, Cochran maintained a convincing lead around the top of the racetrack as Frye held off 12th-place starter Jeff Rine for second. At the finish, Cochran was victorious by 2.6 seconds over Frye, Rine, seventh-place starter Chad Hollenbeck, and 15th-place starter Jim Yoder.

STUTTS WIRES FIELD FOR THIRD CAREER 358-360 SPRINT CAR NATIONAL OPEN VICTORY
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – TJ Stutts of Liverpool scored a convincing flag-to-flag victory in Saturday night’s 13th Annual Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 358-360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway. The win marked the third time Stutts won the prestigious race, having also won the Open in 2001 and 2003.
The $8,000 victory in the 35-lap event was the 17th of Stutts’ career at the track and his second this season driving the Mountain View Travel No. 23M. This year’s edition of the Open was co-sanctioned by the United Racing Company and Empire Super Sprint clubs and drew a stellar field of 50 entries.
Mach 1 Chassis drivers Stutts, Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove, and Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown finished in the top three positions. JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J., was the night’s Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 17.383 (109.6 average miles per hour).
Brad Mitch of McClure won his eighth race of the year in the 15-lap pro stock feature.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present a Twin 20’s program for 410 sprint cars at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, plus four cylinder pure stocks. Track gates will open at 2 p.m. In the event Williams Grove Speedway needs to use Oct. 6 for a rain date for the World of Outlaws-sanctioned National Open, the Selinsgrove race will not be held.
Front row starters Robbie Stillwaggon and TJ Stutts dueled for the early lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Stillwaggon edged out Stutts in turns one and two but Stutts took command at the completion the first lap. Fourth-place starter Brock Zearfoss raced in the third spot while eighth-place starter Blane Heimbach quickly powered into the fourth position.
The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap two when Colby Womer’s car stopped in turn three. When the race resumed, Stutts held the lead as Zearfoss advanced to second and Heimbach took over third. A three-car melee in turn four slowed the race again on lap five.
On the lap six restart, Stutts protected the lead on the bottom of the track with Zearfoss, Heimbach, and fifth-place starter Pat Cannon in pursuit. Heimbach drove by Zearfoss for second on lap nine and three circuits later Cannon was pressuring Zearfoss for third place.
With 20 laps completed, Stutts began to stretch his lead in traffic as a torrid battle unfolded for the second spot between Heimbach and Cannon. In heavy lapped traffic, Stutts set the pace as Cannon took over second on lap 28. In the final five laps, Cannon attempted to reel in Stutts to no avail.
Stutts’ margin of victory was 2.9 seconds over Cannon, whose car was five pounds light during the post-race inspection and disqualified. Heimbach was credited with finishing second, followed by Zearfoss, seventh-place starter Aaron Ott, and 18th-place starter Mark Smith.
Polesitter Devon Hart led the first two laps of the pro stock feature until second-place starter Brad Mitch made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn two. A close race for the runner-up position ensued between Hart and sixth-place starter Kyle Bachman.
In the second half of the event, Mitch, Hart, and Bachman broke away from the rest of the field in a tight three-car battle at the front of the pack. At the finish, Mitch was victorious by just .74 of a second over Hart, Bachman, Rob Baker, and Johnny Bouse.

SCHUCHART & LAFFERTY SPLIT TWIN 20 SPRINT CAR FEATURE VICTORIES
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Logan Schuchart of Hanover and Rick Lafferty of Pennington, N.J., each scored their first career 410 sprint car wins at Selinsgrove Speedway in Sunday afternoon’s Twin 20s racing program to close out the 2013 sprint car racing season at the half-mile oval.
Schuchart, a former 358 and 360 sprint car winner at the track, took the checkered flag in the first 20-lap feature, while Lafferty made a last-lap pass for his victory in the second 20-lap main event. Each feature paid $2,500 to win.
Eric Boozler wired the 28-car field for his victory in the 12-lap four cylinder pure stock race.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Fall Classic for super late models at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, plus a street stock/roadrunner challenge race. The 30-lap season finale for the super late models will pay $5,000 to win and $300 to start. The qualifying format will include time trials, heats, and a B-main. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
The DH&L Fire Co. will hold the annual race car flea market on the speedway grounds beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
In the first 20-lap sprint car feature, polesitter Logan Schuchart pulled into the lead at the drop of the green flag and was chased by second-place starter Chad Layton. Third-place starter Blane Heimbach held the position while being challenged by sixth-place starter Brock Zearfoss.
By lap five, the leaders began to encounter slower traffic on the daytime racing surface. Two laps later, Layton was reeling in Schuchart in a race for the lead. On the 10th circuit, Zearfoss powered under Heimbach for the third position.
Nyle Berkes slammed the frontstretch wall on lap 14, forcing the leaders to take evasive action. When the race resumed, Schuchart stretched his lead with Layton, Zearfoss, Heimbach, and seventh-place starter Steve Buckwalter racing in the top five.
With four laps to race, Buckwalter advanced to fourth while Schuchart drove away from the field and posted a two-second margin of victory. Layton, Zearfoss, Buckwalter and Heimbach rounded out the top five.
In Victory Lane, Schuchart drew a No. 10 pill to invert the top 10 finishers from the first feature for the start of the second feature. On the initial start, fifth-place starter Pat Cannon and 11th-place starter Curt Stroup were involved in a tangle in turn four. During the caution flag, ninth-place starter Chad Layton withdrew his car from the race with mechanical woes.
On the second attempt to start the race, Wade Stauffer and Michael Walter spun in turn four. Polesitter Justin Barger beat out second-place starter Rick Lafferty for the early lead on the third try to commence the race. Fourth-place starter Jacob Allen held down the third position, while sixth-place starter Blane Heimbach and third-place starter Kyle Moody raced in the top five.
By lap six, the leaders had to navigate their way through slower traffic, with Barger setting a torrid pace in front of Lafferty. On the 11th lap, Heimbach passed Allen for the third spot and set his sights on the leaders. Logan Schuchart started 10th and was up to sixth by lap 13.
With two laps to race, Lafferty started to gain a lot of real estate on Barger. A caution flag for Bradley Howard, who did a 360-degree spin, brought out the caution flag with one lap left to race. For the chase to the checkered flag, Lafferty made a dive under Barger entering turn one and exited turn two with the lead. At the finish, Lafferty was victorious by just .34 of a second over Barger, Heimbach, Schuchart, and Allen.
Second-place starter Eric Boozler drove into the lead at the start of the four cylinder pure stock feature. Boozler quickly opened up a big lead over polesitter Robert Wellman and fourth-place starter Ricky Weaver.
For several laps, Wellman, Weaver, and third-place starter Gale Martin dueled for the runner-up position. At the checkered flag, Boozler was victorious by a straightaway over Wellman, Martin, Weaver, and Andrew Moist.

COCHRAN CLOSES OUT SELINSGROVE SEASON WITH THRILLING VICTORY IN LATE MODEL CLASSIC
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – 20-year-old Matt Cochran of Williamsport came away with the victory in Saturday night’s 30-lap Late Model Fall Classic at Selinsgrove Speedway following a thrilling five-car battle for the lead in the final laps of the last race of the season.
Cochran’s second win of the year and the fourth of his career at the track was worth $5,000 driving the Krenn Brokerage No. 16.
Bob Bussey of Northumberland scored his sixth win of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner/street stock challenge race.
Polesitter Scott Haus powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Haus was closely chased by third-place starter Jason Covert and fourth-place starter Dan Stone. The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap four when Pancho Lawler stopped his No. 93 in turn four. During the caution flag period, Haus withdrew from the race with a smoking race car as well as sixth-place starter Jeff Rine, who rejoined the race at the back of the pack.
Covert inherited the lead for the lap five restart and quickly stretched his lead while Stone raced with second-place starter Chad Hollenbeck, fifth-place starter Dylan Yoder, and seventh-place starter Matt Cochran for the top five positions.
On the 13th circuit, Hollenbeck slowed with a flat tire. Prior to a lap 17 restart, Stone was penalized a position for jumping on the lap 14 restart, placing Cochran into second behind race leader Covert. The second half of the race was an all-out war on wheels for the top five positions between Covert, Cochran, Stone, D. Yoder, and Rine, who was able to make a rebound from the rear of the field.
Cochran made the winning pass using the inside lane through turns one and two on the 27th lap. Rine showed a final burst of speed by powering into the runner-up position on the final lap. Cochran’s margin of victory was just two seconds over Rine, Covert, Stone, and D. Yoder.
In the roadrunner/street stock challenge race, polesitter Kevin Holland led the first four laps over fourth-place starter Bob Bussey. The first caution flag unfurled on lap four when second-place starter Ray Rothfuss slowed on the track.
On the lap five restart, Bussey made the winning pass using the outside lane in turn two. Once in front of the pack, Bussey began to stretch his lead. Despite several late-race restarts, Bussey was able to hold a strong lead and posted the victory over Holland, Jeremy Kline, Brandon Shultz, and Toby Chase.
